And people generally do not roll their eyes.  Trumptards and anti vaxers may do that, sane people who trust science and medicine do not.

Eh...that example when she basically started crying on camera was cringe-worthy and seriously dented her credibility.

Administration is smart to have Fauci making the rounds on the news shows. The key seems to be evidence from Israel that vaccinated people who get COVID don't get sick/infected enough to spread it. The viral load doesn't get high enough so they can't transmit. That's why vaccinated people can stop wearing masks -- those that are vaccinated can't spread.

Possibly the best news yet. Wonder how Sunshine will spin this one...

The way I look at it is... We've reached the point we always thought we would reach. Vaccinated or not, we are all going to catch this coronavirus sooner or later. The virus is endemic, it's not going anywhere. So any further effort to avoid it is futile.  Either you get vaccinated, and you will likely encounter a relatively mild illness at worse; or you don't, and your chance of serious illness is much greater.

I don't think anyone is suggesting masks needed to be mandated forever, just that there are some states where higher prevalence of community spread still put unvaccinated populations at risk. In any case, for those of us with kids, the best we can do is hope the case rates continue to drop before the mask mandates are lifted. I imagine those still dealing with covid patients in hospitals or doctor's offices feel the same way.

My god one step forwards, two steps back in the UK it feels. This government is a joke.

I wouldn't consider them vulnerable.  I know quite a few "healthy" people who have had it and none of them had complications.  Mostly 3 days out of commission and loss of taste and smell in some cases.  I'd be more concerned if the ones with comorbidities didn't have the opportunity to get vaccinated.  Kids will be fine.  It doesn't seem to phase them.  My 13 year old nephew had it and was fine after a day or two.

My aunt (70 years old, very overweight, has diabetes, etc) had a minor fever for 2 or 3 days when she had it. She got winded more quickly than normal for a couple weeks afterwards, but otherwise she was fine. Two of my SILs got it around the same time as her. Older one is 40, younger one is 35 or 36 I think. Both is reasonably good shape, healthy, not severely overweight, no health issues, etc. Both were essentially bed ridden for more than a week with high fevers, chills, extreme fatigue to the point they could barely make it to the bathroom, etc. The older one still can't smell or taste anything 5.5 months later. It is extremely difficult to predict who will impacted severely and who will not.

A friend's son is in his early 20's and has it for the 2nd time. First time he had a fever for a few days but recovered pretty quickly. 2nd time around sounds like it has just been a dry cough that he was attributing to allergies until he had to get tested for work.

I am starting to think that COVID is most likely just going to become an endemic disease.

Along with this, I've also been saying that getting to endemic levels is still a major win. It's just a tad bit premature to lift mask restrictions. Christ, can we at least get through the school year?

That old prince dude choked on the Queen’s strapon and died.  That’s all I’ve heard of recently.

This Indian variant is spooking them. It is more transmissible than the original and the UK variant. But they think the vaccines still work etc but they are already saying its going to impact our progress.

Well, that's what you get for the centuries of colonial rule and oppression.

DEAL WITH IT.

Super cool article on the origins of social distancing rules, and slow acceptance on a common definition for what constitutes "airborne" transmission. Basically it dates back to a misinterpretation of tuberculosis research decades ago that led to improper guidance for all other respiratory pathogens since then.
