One of the early super spreader events that made news was I believe a church choir from Seattle or thereabouts. Singing is a great way to get all your viruses out in the air, and other people inhaling deeply to sing is a great way it make sure you get a big viral, uh, load.

Geez thanks, now I got a room full of old people loads.

I thought changing after the funeral was maybe too much. Now I have to go shower and I'm sort of hoping a team in suits with scrub brushes show up.

FYI - worldwide flu deaths each year: 291,000 to 646,000

COVID-19 deaths worldwide last year: Nearly 4 million.

Just like the flu!!!

There's a case to be made that these unvaccinated people are so aggressively stupid that a judge should put them under the care of Britney Spear's father.  At the very least, let's hope Biden expands his "door to door" comment to include forcibly vaccinating these idiots.

lmao let's goooo!

Moron is cheering for the virus.

So in Missouri, a Red State, 99.5% of all recent Covid Deaths are unvaccinated people.

Same for other Red States like Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida and Texas.

Trumplicans are going to pay for the anti vaccine, covid hoax beliefs.

GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert calls Biden's door-to-door vaccinators 'needle Notzees'

I hope she gets Covid.

Do you have the stats for all of the states?  I’m curious because the vaccine should greatly reduce the risk of having a severe reaction to the virus.  Based on that, most of the people dying from Covid should be unvaccinated.

Just the delta variant. All the other variants are lame by comparison.

99.2% of US Covid deaths in June were unvaccinated, says Fauci

More than nine out of 10 Americans who died from Covid-19 in the US in June were unvaccinated, according to Dr Anthony Fauci – a statistic that health officials say is especially concerning given the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy in some regions and the rise of the Delta variant.

Maryland reported this week that 100% of those who died from coronavirus there in June had not been vaccinated, while more than 93% of those with new cases or who were hospitalized were similarly unprotected.

Cases are rising in nearly half the states as low vaccination rates are being met with the more transmissible and severe Delta or B.1.617.2, variant, identified in India in December 2020.

Missouri currently ranks the worst state in the country for the highest rates of hospitalizations and deaths in the past seven days, according to The New York Times.

Missouri also sits at second-worst behind Arkansas for states with the most cases per capita in the past seven days, with 17 cases per 100,000 residents, according to The New York Times coronavirus tracker. In the past week, Missouri averaged about 1,047 new cases per day.

The state is seeing the most hospitalizations per capita in the country, averaging 1,002 hospitalizations a day over the past week.

State of the virus

Update for July 7

  • About 250 deaths are being reported each day, the fewest since March 2020. Case numbers remain near their lowest levels since testing became widely available, but they have started to trend slowly upward.
  • The uptick in cases is primarily due to localized outbreaks in places with low vaccination rates. Parts of Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Nevada are struggling as the Delta variant spreads.
  • Most of the country continues to see very low case rates. The outlook is especially positive east of the Mississippi River and on the West Coast.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the US emerges from the COVID-19 crisis, Missouri is becoming a cautionary tale for the rest of the country: It is seeing an alarming rise in cases because of a combination of the fast-spreading delta variant and stubborn resistance among many people to getting vaccinated.

Intensive care beds are filling up with surprisingly young, unvaccinated patients and staff members are getting burned out fighting a battle that was supposed to be in its final throes.

The hope among some health leaders is that the rest of the US might at least learn something from Missouri’s plight.

"If people elsewhere in the country are looking to us and saying, ‘No thanks’ and they are getting vaccinated, that is good,” said Erik Frederick, chief administrative officer at Mercy Hospital Springfield, which has been inundated with COVID-19 patients as the variant first identified in India rips through the largely non-immunized community. "We will be the canary.”

The state now leads the nation with the highest rate of new COVID-19 infections and the surge is happening largely in a politically conservative farming region in the northern part of the state and in the southwestern corner, which includes Springfield and Branson, the country music mecca in the Ozark Mountains where big crowds are gathering again at the city’s theaters and other attractions.

While over 53 percent of all Americans have received at least one shot, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most southern and northern Missouri counties are well short of 40 percent. One county is at just 13 percent.

I mean, that's technically true that "more than nine out of ten" were unvaccinated. But why not say 99 out of 100?

The average is 99.2% unvaccinated, but Missouri is above that.  I’d think being above the average would be better.  Maryland had 100% of those who died of Covid were unvaccinated.

Yep. And in Red counties where they are under 40% vaccinated.

Yep. and Red States in red counties where the vaccinated are under 40%  are leading the way with the new variant.

there's an alphabet soup of stats there.

"among unvaccinated" Missouri might be doing better than the average (99.2%), but at that number it's certainly within the statistical variance (given that only 0.8% remain).

but looking at the number of vaccinated among the whole of Missouri's population, it's well behind the national average. only 39% are fully vaccinated, making it right around the 25 percentile or so.

and my guess is that in/around St Louis vaccination compliance is closer to the national average, meaning in rural "Missoura" there's a lot of opportunity for a faster-traveling Delta variant to spread through the population.

just speculation of course, but I think reasonable.
