So I just read an article that after 6 months the efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine drops by 6% every two month. That was very interesting..

Pfizer's CEO says Covid vaccine effectiveness drops to 84% after six months (cnbc.com)

J&J' said their studies show the vaccine getting stronger after 8 months.

Positive New Data for Johnson & Johnson Single-Shot COVID-19 Vaccine on Activity Against Delta Variant and Long-lasting Durability of Response | Johnson & Johnson (jnj.com)

Is this because they use different vaccine technologies or is it just because of the way the studies were done? Really confused because J&J is clearly the inferior vaccine so I'm not sure why us J&Jers aren't being told to get another dose.

Pfizer is pushing boosters I would not trust what they say

J&J is fine. It's just not nearly as good (efficacy wise) as the others.

There's not a lot of real world data for the J&J vaccine against delta because it's not in use as much outside the US, whereas Pfizer has much more real world data against delta thanks to Israel. The sample size they cite in your J&J link was 8 patients.

Ha, neither! Though I have noticed a little bit of thinning in the last couple years. :meh:

 So we're in limbo until we are told we can mix vaccines at this point?

1 but probably going back to #2

From all those stats it looks pretty clear to me that children are not in much danger of anything short term.  Long term is anyone's guess but then you'd also need to factor in any longer term issues resulting from all the restrictions themselves, e.g. not physically in school, etc. before you can figure out what the best mix of measures is in reality.  Unfortunately we won't know until we get there.

Pretty much. Ultimately it's up to the FDA to give us the green light and they can't do that until companies file the applications. In other countries, like Canada, their version of the FDA made more ad hoc decisions, like mixing, and spacing out the first and second doses. I don't mind that we follow things more by the book, but there can also be disadvantages with a more cautious approach.

Not sure what it's like there but I'm not aware of any schools here that are going to be closed this fall. All that were closed last year are now going back in person.

2. For reasons I’ve posted previously in this thread.

Hard to get everyone to get vaccinated when their idiot leaders are calling it a scam

Mix of 1 and 2. I am vaccinated and wear a mask if it is required at the time (airports, stores, etc.). I don't wear one outside or at work (everyone is vaccinated and tested, so we don't require).

Yes, Republicans must be the reason that over 40% of healthcare workers in NYC are unvaccinated.

Republican leaders are the ones fighting it. I am sure there is at least 1 Republican in New York, maybe more.

It is simply not true that Republicans are entirely to blame for reluctance.  Much of the hesitance remains in minority communities, and it was Democrats who were initially badmouthing the vaccine.  Add to that the constant drumbeat that our system of government and society is racist, and it becomes easier to understand why minorities might have a problem believing our government and societal leaders.  That's not to say that some Republicans are not hesitant to get vaccinated, but concentrating only on them is a politically opportunistic ruse that ignores other segments.

And I'd like to add that I enjoy harassing low level employees in stores that try to enforce mask rules.

1, but I have no issues if I have to start wearing a mask again, as I am not a pooosy who allows extremely minor inconveniences bother him.
