Yeah, but I wouldn’t tell people not to get a vaccine.

I do agree the info doesn't help in persuading the unvaccinated to get vaccinated.  Anyway, I'm pretty sure CNN is preaching for everyone to get vaccinated.  Here's what Rogan said in trying to clarify his position :

He's literally telling people he doesn't think about what he says before he says it, and that "the argument that young people should get it to prevent further spread is a different argument" IS THE SAME FREAKING ARGUMENT WE'VE BEEN MAKING TO YOUNG PEOPLE TO GET THE VACCINE FROM THE BEGINNING.

Nobody was hiding the fact that COVID, at least the dominant earlier variants (Delta is still being figured out), represented a much smaller risk to younger people than the older and those with high risk traits (obesity, heart/lung issues, etc.). The appeal to younger people was "please get vaccinated so that you help prevent it spreading to grandma"

I find it very irresponsible that he would even weigh in on these things if he's going to also at the same time say "I'm probably wrong" .. dude, you have a big following of young tough-guy types for whom your show is constructing a permission structure not to get vaccinated.

In the five minutes or so I’ve ever listened to him, Rogan sounds pretty naive and not very smart to boot.

"Don't listen to me, I'm a F'ing moron."

And yet, idiots still listen to him.

Well getting it for the sake of oneself and getting it for the sake of others is two different things but he sure made a mess of it. No doubt about that. As you point out he owes his viewership a certain level of responsibility and he violated that in this instance.

It’s only two different things if you don’t care about your friends and family.

And still a stupidly easy choice even if your only concern is your own health. That is, if you're not terrible at math and science. Which Rogan very much is.

Well for starters it wasn’t a peer reviewed  study.  It was a theoretical paper and was from 2015 which isn’t providing info on covid specifically, it’s providing a general theory on viruses. You can’t take a new novel virus and dump it in a bucket with "studies” of other non specific viruses from 6 years and claim any sort of fact or validity to it.  Secondly his source was some unnamed doctor emailing him random baseless info and generic studies because they don’t want to jeopardize their integrity.  Any good podcaster or media person or journalist gets that doctor on the show and goes in depth.

Rogan is a hack who reads and shares headlines to fit his narrative.

What about the CNN article? The concept seems like one worth reviewing for virus spread including COVID as a long term advance of science.

That doesn’t have to detract from the important message to everyone to get vaccinated. People like Rogan need to be much more responsible though. He should not be discussing it as you say.

Once you have children you start worrying about someone else’s health and safety more than your own. But I guess if you’re a bachelor and/or self infatuated then that viewpoint makes more sense.

We need everyone to take it. If some are more motivated in protecting others that works too. Either way or both just take the vaccine.

What’s your plan to convince 100 million people to do that?

Like Rogan they fail to understand that vaccines are not designed to kill a virus.  It should come as no surprise to anyone that there are mutations out there that can evade the vaccine. It’s been like that with the flu virus since that vaccine was invented.  And they’re basically telling the unvaccinated that it doesn’t matter if they get vaccinated or not there is still potential to get and spread the virus. So here we are again creating the divide.  Providing people with false and misleading information and creating more confusion, frustration and anger.
bottom line is you’re better off getting vaccinated. For your own damn health and for the VERY good chance that you’ll prevent more virus spread than you actually cause.

I already commented about that article (see above).  I understand why you shared it, but again the way the media frames it is completely wrong.  Very click baity, and many people will only read that headline and think the vaccine doing more harm Than good.

Tough in the US given how political the topic has been. Some form of incentive along the lines of Vikas type proposals seems like the best approach to me.

Yeah you commented about the risks in having unvaccinated people use it as a reason to stay unvaccinated, etc. I agree with that part. You didn’t comment on what was false in the actual topics discussed in the details of the article though.

Well again they used an old study. The headline misses the whole point of the article anyway. So more misleading that false info.  The article itself is fine and if people took the time to read it they would say what I did - yeah that makes sense because the flu still exists and mutates despite a vaccine that’s been around for decades.  Because educated people would be able to understand that the vaccine doesn’t actually kill the virus.  It’s not a treatment (which is what Rogan called it), it’s a preventive measure.  But the uneducated will read that headline and say "see the vaccine isn’t working and actually making things worse.” Mainly because they won’t read it, let alone understand it.   The media is creating major problems with all of this and it’s getting out of control.

Yeah ok we are in agreement.  The headlines on CNN were bad and misleading and in the same vein as Rogan (which was worse) but the actual science here is something worth exploring more and the data in the CNN article isn't "false" since it wasn't portrayed as being something that was proven.  Still not a good article for CNN to be serving to its viewership and they took it down almost as quickly as it went up.  You can still find it easily with a search though.

The one that suggested the continued use of mask mandates until a certain percentage of the population is vaccinated?

I had mentioned in a conversation that the vaccine is working and here is the stoopid response from a FB friend:

"I'm just not foolish enough to fall for the world's biggest experiment give me solid evidence that works and I will without hesitation."

The minute I provide evidence the goal posts will move though.

Most kids get shots for a variety of epidemic diseases.  I think it’s hilarious that people act like getting vaccinated for something is a novel concept.
