On Russillo's pod, he went thru the East, and basically the Sixers are the laziest team in the NBA. I lot of damning stats and a good listen

They look it. I haven't been this unenthused about a sixers team since early in the process. They are boring to watch. They look like a poorly constructed, poorly coached team.

Would that be so bad?  Maxey is fun to watch and a great young player,  but he’s not a championship franchise cornerstone.

A dumb trade that makes them older just makes them closer to the reset that will inevitably come before any championship anyway.

It would be bad.  Maxey has to stay.

We have a difference of opinion on Maxey apparently. He’s going to be a star for a long time. He’s already on the cusp.

He is nothing more than a 3rd best guy, maybe 2nd on an NBA championship roster. I thought his shot selection yesterday was pretty piss poor, settling for jumpers over and over

I disagree but ok. It’s like people keep forgetting that the kid is only 22 and constantly improving. He’ll be an all-star this year, and sky’s the limit after that.

Show me 6'2 combo guards that are #1 on teams and win rings

I love Maxey, but the reality is that he has shown zero improvement from last year. I'm afraid he's peaked for the most part.

He talked about his struggles. Its been 3 games. He said he has been driving to get contact rather than driving to make buckets. And he knows one of his best attributes is finishing around the basket. So he has to get back to just going to the rim.

Doc talked about it and mentioned more along the lines of what you are saying. Doc said he is so dangerous going to the basket, and that opens up the rest of his game. Last night, Maxey took two 3s early, basically doing it in reverse. Doc believes Maxey needs to attack the basket first to open up the shots, rather than shooting first to open up the basket.

Maxey admits when he missed one he didnt want to shoot the next one while teammates encourage him to keep shooting to get out of his slump.

There is a lot being said about him adjusting to the PG role and getting different shots there as opposed to playing SG with Harden on the court.

In my opinion, hes just tired. Shots are clanking off the front of the rim consistently. Hes playing a lot of minutes right now, and trying to pick up slack for injured players. I think he can use a rest game. I think he is taking the same type of shots. You may be on to something with shot selection though- that fits the narrative that he is pressing, thinking too much about when he shout shoot vs when to get others involved, and trying to pick up the load for an old injured team who is struggling to win games.

I think we need to trade with the Spurs for guys like Vassell and Sochan. Too bad we dont have anyone theyd want.

Joel publicly calling out Doc's decisions is surely a sign that everything is healthy and trending in the right direction.

"I think I’m smart enough to not foul. But I thought that’s probably when the game changed. They went on that run and we could never get it back. I trust whatever my teammates and coaches say. Tonight, it just happened to be, at the time, probably the wrong decision.”

Embiid clearly feels that he should have been in the game in the third quarter, as he feels he’s "smart enough to not foul.” Evidently, Doc Rivers thought otherwise, as the Sixers star big man took a seat after picking up four quick fouls.

During the remainder of the quarter, the Hawks went on a 25-14 run to extend the Hawks’ lead to 14 points.

He voiced his frustrations regarding this run occurring while he was on the bench following the loss. As Embiid put it to reporters, "I think I’m smart enough not to foul. But I thought that’s probably when the game changed. They went on that run and we could never get it back… I trust whatever my teammates and coaches say. Tonight, it just happened to be, at the time, probably the wrong decision.” per Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Then Doc put him back in with 90 seconds left as the bench bought it within 7. Harrell was not happy having to go back to the bench. Those dope decisions can kill a team culture but the reality is they don't have one.

Doc's too arrogant to spend the time fostering one.  Cassell seems far more in touch with the players personally.  Too bad upper management doesn't have the balls to pull the trigger.

I bet Dave Joerger gets the job

They would have to fire Doc first.  Everything after that is gravy.

5 years ago today, Elton Brand traded for Jimmy Butler. He noted that though the season was young, we had already lost to 3 of the top teams in the east and knew that we just werent good enough to achieve the lofty goals the team had for that season. So he went and made a move.

No photo description available.

There arent a lot of good things to say about Brand's time as the GM here. But that was a really commendable, humble move to accept reality that early in the season and go do something about it. In a big way.

I WISH Morey had that in him. Morey, and certainly Doc are too stubborn to admit this team sucks. We will have to wait for the trade deadline and see some **** moves.

👀

An Eastern Conference GM declined to identify the team but said, "I know for a fact a team was gathering background intel on Ime a week after everything happened in Boston," he said. "Ime was going to be their guy if they fired their current coach."

but for the sake of this blog, we're treating it as fact. It's pretty obvious who this is right? Let's have a look at the contenders

1. Sixers

Do the Sixers stink or is it really just all Doc? Either way there's no way he can still be their coach. Daryl just has to eat that L and move on since there's still time to save the season. Ime's worked in PHI before so it wouldn't shock me. crap, they probably should have hired him in the first place before bringing in Doc but oh well.

Felt like a slow start and still managed 37 in the 1st quarter. Not bad.

Harris has been very solid on this stretch with Harden out. He may help his trade market.

Maxey is starting to score again!

5-7 so far, and already had 5 assists in the 1st quarter. Hes maybe starting to figure out how to set guys up, and still get his.

Were up by like 20. Now down to a 6 point lead

Saw online:

Reporter: Doc why didn't you play Bassey?

Doc: That's disrespectful. Would you ask Pop that question?

Reporter: No. Pop plays Bassey.

Embiid has never been or worked on becoming, even an above average passer. He throws wide open and no pressure passes, away all the time.

If Kate Scott can’t pronounce Embiid, how is she a a Sixers commentator?

What a ridiculous game from Embiid
