Suns and Pacers discussed Ayton for Sabonis.

Ayton is going to be a restricted free agent. Are the Suns going to be cheap and not want to max him?

I said this yesterday (cause i had a Arizona coach who worked for Phoenix last year explain to me) the worst case scenario for the suns is they match a offer sheet and look to deal ayton down the road or Qualify offer him and then look to deal him. Ayton is only 23 years old and even if they go to trade him a year or two from now he’s going to be a better player at that point in time. they’re still gonna be able to get better value than what they’re gonna let him just walk away on a RFA offer sheet.

I don’t disagree that they would try to trade him (hence sabonis deal) because they are cheap and don’t believe he is a max money player. they’re not gonna just let him walk away they’ll deal him. I also know Paul loves him and so do the suns coaches. They love his defense and what he eventually can become offensively over the next couple years.

Sarver is always cheap

Don’t disagree. He’s always been. However Chris Paul loves ayton. And i thought the suns would have more issues and cheapness trying to extend Paul at his age last year but they did it. I think the Suns would trade Ayton if they got a comparable player back on a good contract (sabonis who they likely thought could be signed for less and as talented a player as ayton) or a better player that they believe is a max contract. This is gonna come down to the fact the suns aren’t gonna let him just walk away to a RFA offer sheet. They’ll deal him somewhere in a sign and trade type move before they let that happen.

the suns know with Chris Paul’s age the window is right now. They aren’t going to let a major trade chip just walk in a RFA offer sheet. They’ll use the trade chip

from the nets message board Ben thread:

I had a vision that Ben used this time off to start shooting right handed and we're getting him as a 40% high volume 3pt shooter.

It’s Stephen a. so who knows

These national guys are on drugs. Barkley is saying Seth Curry is better than Harden.

Barkley saying that Joel and Harden have to figure out how to play together.  And that James is going to have to get use to giving up the ball since Joel is the dominant scorer.  Did anyone complain about that when he was playing with Durant?

Durant eat, sleeps, and breathes basketball.  He doesn't have a family yet because he wants no distractions.  Ben will fit in well 😂

i wonder if we're going to dislike tobi less now that he'll be the 3rd or 4th scoring option?

hmm....probably not.

If that's the case,  you got the Nets to take Ben's salary for Curry (maybe not interested in resigning him either), Drummond ( a vet min playet) and 2 1sts.

At worst it's a cap clearing deal. Can trade Harris in the summer and should have max space available.

Oh, there’s definitely still upside here, with getting Simmons off the books being tops of that list.

No. Because people really hate is contract and as a 3rd or 4th option hes even more overpaid even if he plays more efficiently.

He doesnt suck. People just say he does because he doesnt play as well as they think a near max contract player should.

My hope is that Harris can be what Kevin Love was on that Cavs championship team. 3rd option, solid 20 and 10 guy.

One man's vision is another man's delusion.

But the word is he doesn't want to go in the luxury tax

I just saw a video title from ESPN claiming Simmons can be the Nets version of Giannis...

Were we the only ones paying attention for the last year?

This is perfect.  Get all the hype going for him, put more pressure on him.  Let him turtle harder and let others get the chance to be disappointed.

I live out here it’s nonstop suns talk along with i have some nice connections. And I’m telling you they will trade picks away to get rid of Landry Shamet‘s contract before they let DeAndre Ayton walk away for an offer sheet. Literally every day I listen to this and I’m telling you they’re not gonna let him walk away to a restricted offer sheet.

they were going to trade for sabonis and he’s owed 18.5 and 19.4 the next 2 years because they thought he was as good as ayton on what would be a better contract. They weren’t getting nothing for him or minimal what they get in a restricted offer sheet

if you wanna make a bet with me using our avatars that the suns allowed him to walk away with just a restriction offer sheet then I’ll take that bet all day

also have sarver say this:

"That’s gonna come with the territory here,” Sarver said of paying the luxury tax soon. "I don’t know if that’s next season (2021-22) or the one after that (2022-23), but we know it’s coming. We see ourselves as a taxpayer, and that’s just part of what it’s gonna take to bring home a championship.”

do I believe it fully? No.

also a great article about the whole suns situation is this one. Where he gets to the same point I’m making to you that the suns are going to match any offer sheet that is put out there.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/why-the-suns-didnt-extend-deandre-ayton-and-what-it-means-for-phoenix-and-its-center-moving-forward/

What happens now that the extension deadline has passed?

Now that the Oct. 18 deadline has come and gone, Ayton is set to become a restricted free agent next summer. At that point, one of two things will almost certainly happen:

  • Ayton signs a long-term contract. That contract might come from the Suns or it might come through an offer sheet from another team that the Suns eventually max, but the end result is the same: Ayton remains in Phoenix on a new deal.
  • Ayton signs the one year, $16.4 million qualifying offer that Phoenix must make to him in order to retain his rights as a restricted free agent. If he does so, he would become an unrestricted free agent in 2023.
  •
  • In theory, a young team jumping into the tax should be expected to stay there as long as they keep paying their best players … but the Suns have an escape hatch available to them after the 2022-23 season if they want it. Chris Paul is guaranteed only $15.8 million over the final two years of his contract. If he has slipped out of All-Star form by then, the Suns can waive him and use the stretch provision to spread that money over five seasons. Lowering Paul's cap hit by 90 percent could allow them to keep Ayton and Bridges (and perhaps even re-sign Cam Johnson) while staying below the tax. What this essentially means is that paying Ayton what he wants only needs to vault Phoenix into tax territory for one year. Afterward, it can play things by ear with Paul. If the Suns think he's still capable of leading them to a championship, they can keep him and pay a hefty tax bill. If not? They can save money by letting him walk.
  • Robert Sarver isn't Steve Ballmer, but he's not Ebenezer Scrooge either. Barring an almost unimaginable degree of frugality, he's going to pay the tax in the 2022-23 season. The only real questions that remain are just how deep into the tax he's going and just how long he's willing to stay there.

Any more on the JJ rumors?

He has to be making a killing with his pod and now ESPN but no doubt he still is in shape. A shooter of his quality just doesn't forget how to shoot.

Well at least Maya seems happy.
