Damn, really makes you think how awful hollywood has become.

The top two films in domestic gross for the month of October 1994:

Wow, over Forest Gump? That's surprising.

Forrest Gump was released in July of '94,  and Jurassic Park was released in '93

Correct, it was timing.  Pulp Fiction released that month but not until the middle of October.  If it had been out more than two weeks, it probably would have crushed them both.

Edit: Plus Pulp Fiction was on a surprisingly low number of screens: only 1494.  By comparison, the Specialist was on 2522 and The River Wild was on 2153.

FWIW, I projected all of them.

That meme could really be expanded to be even more impressive.  Also on screen that month were Natural Born Killers, Quiz Show, True Lies, Ed Wood, and Stargate.

The Netflix doc on him was awesome, I figured the movie would hit the same highlights.

I have not seen this

The Book of Clarence, 9/10.  Brilliant and moody.

Dune 2, every bit as good as part 1, again find the biggest screen you can.

Probably find my biggest screen for viewing 2 tonight

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was meh. Kind of a mess. Tried to do too much, too many things made no sense. The "frozen" NY portion is very brief, there is no empire it's like 10 minutes of screen time.

American Fiction, terrific satire that manages to stay light and tender.

Roadhouse, goofy oddball action flick but somehow its engaging and unique.

Watched them back to back, they made a really good tandem double feature.

Zone of Interest, a masterpiece, and finally I can say I definitely saw THE movie from 2023 Oscar's pack that deserved to win. A horror movie, with monsters, visually and sonically akin to There Will be Blood.

my final rankings of the group:

Zone of Interest

Barbie

Poor Things/Book of Clarence (tie)

American Fiction

Oppenheimer

Napoleon

Flower Moon

Anatomy of a Fall

Saw an IMAX preview of Civil War tonight. Very unique compared to any other films I can think of, and used score and tension very well to set or shape the mood. Our guy meth Damon continues to knock out of the park as well.

I finished The Zone of Interest. Not really sure how I feel about it. I wish I could stop thinking about it. I mean, I see the brilliance in it but it’s definitely not something I feel great about. That’s probably the point. It’s obviously not a monster movie in the traditional sense but it’s not unreasonable to call it a monster movie anyway.

Planning to go to theater for that this week.

The jarring banality of the evil really sticks to your bones.

I booted up Draft Day as a background watch while working. This movie is absurd in all the best ways!

The Holdovers - Great F’ing movie. Giamatti is fantastic in it.

Civil War is a hands down good movie. Garland again proves he's a master at blending mysterious fog of war points of view with stylish cinema and efficient prose. There is some clear statements about why America is on the brink (fascism, nativism) but Garland deftly avoids outright controversy and ephemeral talking points. Instead he uses the setting to make a provocative movie about war correspondence and the sacredness of unbiased media.

I am so sorry for the wordy review, Let's keep it bro-y.

The soundtrack is killer, no joke and Jesse Plemons might have had his best performance ever. The White House scene is something you dont want to miss dude.
