I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

One final post....  Formula One have just had 2 race weekends in a row with zero COVID cases by creating different bubbles for people to operate in.  It's kind of similar to the NBA model, but in nicer places.

It does provide a blueprint for the NFL and for those are worried about COVID.  The NFL aren't leading the charge, they can follow others

It is. It doesn't surprise me as I go through app ts and cs, but even so...  TikTok is utter trash for privacy and are scraping every detail they can get out of you.  I can see why India banned it; just nasty stuff on so many levels.

So Hightower supposedly lined up as QB. He was 1 of 2 for four yards passing.  His 24 rushing attempts aren’t separated for sweeps, wildcat or RB. Now, 24 for 317 isn’t bad as a WR as a runner.

Brad Smith says hi!

 ...the military base golf courses...

My brother was a career Combat Air Traffic Controller (since retired) in the Air Force and seriously enjoys his golf, as do I.

His military affiliation has allowed us to play dozens of Military Courses all over the country and invariably they are some of the best maintained courses I've had the privilege of playing. Colorado Springs, Florida panhandle, Mountains of Utah, didn't matter. All well watered, well clipped, superior layouts to rival some of the nicest private courses out there. Tee times never seemed to be an issue, though he was a Chief Master Sergeant, not sure if that helped but no doubt the Govt has no problem spending on Military Recreational Facilities.

Sometimes its good to be less tech savvy.   Never used TikTok, never plan to.

That said, I did get a call with a recording of a voice speaking what I presume to have been an Asian language coming from 212 area code on my cell phone today.  I'll assume it was Chinese.  But, it could have been nearly any language, honestly.   I did hang up on them.

I don’t have an issue with spending on Military Recreational Facilities. I do have an issue with so many flag officers and the cost to maintain them.  I have a close friend who retired as a Brigadier General from the Marines although he held that rank for a short time before retiring. I also strongly suspect that if your brother had a tee time and a general called the course for that time, that your brother would get jumped.

I would add that your brother is getting less than half what a general would get in retirement.

What they assembled was a bunch of selfish players who were there for a paycheck.   Nnamdi ate lunch in his car... alone.  DRC was scared to touch a player with the ball.  Babin did the same move on every play... run around the OT and hope that the QB backs up into you, even on 3rd and short...

Just a horrible horrible collection of players.   The coach had no real chance, especially when the DC was being undercut by the **** DL coach who thought he could dictate to the DC and just play Wide 9 pass rush on each and every play... and he literally taught the DL to ignore anything but what they were going to do.

Honestly, looking back, I don't think the decision to hire Castillo as DC was as bad as it appeared on the face.  I think he could have been very good, if given time to grow into the job (granted in the NFL, that doesn't happen often), but given what he had to deal with the defense wasn't that bad.  I think the decision to hire Washburn (and giving him the autonomy he had) was actually a far worse decision than Castillo.   Castillo was a PR mistake.  Washburn was a personnel mistake.

Agreed 100%. Don't think they could've possibly undermined Castillo more than they did.

So the fiscal conservative in me got to pondering Presidential golf, going off of something else I Was reading.  Ike, Obama, Trump - all big time golfers.  I just don’t get why the don’t utilize the military base golf courses around DC.  Heck, there are three courses at Andrews Air Force Base, which is where they park Air Force One.  The Army has two course at Fort Belvoir and the Marines (Navy) have one at Quantico. The actual Navy has one at Patuxent River, one at Annapolis and one at Indian Head. Would be so much easier to protect a president at a military base and I have to imagine, a lot cheaper.  I don’t know when those course were built so I don’t know if they existed when Ike put in the pitch and putt hole and driving range at Camp David, that I assume are still there.

What got me thinking about this was an article I read on the number of generals and admirals we have now.  Just shy of 1,000 commanding about 1.3 million servicemen. In contrast, in World War II, when we were actually fighting a world war, there were about 2,000 commanding 12 million troops. Average staff cost per flag officer? $1 million. Drivers, secretaries, chefs.  And, of course, golf.  Not easy for an enlisted serviceman to get a tee time. Ever wonder why you aren’t flying with admirals and generals but are with enlisted men?  Well the admirals and generals are getting around in C-40s, basically tricked out versions of what Southwest flies.

Hey, it’s only tax dollars and frankly, the way this Congress spends within income, just our grandkids’ tax dollars. Seems like those dollars could be better saved or, if spent, maybe on veterans.

That's absurd. I see the military is no different than any other government entity or corporation- too top heavy. I'm a fiscal conservative as well and the way our government spends money nauseates me. I think for every program the government wants to spend money on, they should eliminate 2-3 programs. If not, like you, I weep for our grand children. Too many people think that money literally grows on trees.

IMO this is hard to understand.  If they actually offered him $35M AAV and the guaranteed money is equivalent to what Goff/Wentz got, he’s getting bad advice.

He might come out looking richer by having his agent squeeze out some extra $ — but I can’t imagine this plays well for the long term.  Great news for Eagles fans, though

I Actually think he and his agent realize he can play this out exactly like Kirk cousins and get more over 5 years in terms of guaranteed money then what he was likely offered in the 5 year contract Dallas offered him. If he manages to stay healthy he makes 31.4 mil guaranteed in 2020. If he’s franchised in 2021 it jumps with second franchise to at least 37 million. If he after that reaches free agency and let’s say just gets the same deal cousins got a couple seasons ago of 84 million Fully guaranteed he’d have 152 mil guaranteed which I’m guessing Dallas hasn’t offered him in that 5 year deal.

Forget Clowney, give me that Jags DE that just turned 25 and has atleast 8 sacks in each of the last 4 seasons.

You’re stoned man. They’re not in a position to give up that draft pick compensation on top of a huge contract extension.

Stat wise Castillo did better than Mcdermott before him and Bowels and Davis after him

Much like you say i think Castillo was pretty far down the list of problems with that team, washburn was a cancer and the roster was constructed poorly

I think howie learned from it though as he put together a pretty good team in 2017.😉

The pandemic changes things, and we have no idea what the Cowboys have offered in terms of real guarantees.

I think he’s smart to wait. He’s financially set anyway so why not play it out? It’s not like NFL teams wouldn’t line up for him if he hit the open market like Cousins.

Yup. And by then the Coronavirus is gone and the NFL is making crazy money again. If he waits two years, he could be in the $40+ million per year range with better guarantees.

I’m not so sure they would.  I mean all it takes is one...but I don’t see him really being in super high demand.  Not for the money he wants.  I don’t see teams ‘lining up’ for Dak Prescott.

He's overplaying his hand.  The offer that's been reported is likely more than he'll get if he has a down year.  He's not Patrick Mahomes.  He's not Carson Wentz, or Russell Wilson.   He should be content with a top 4 payday.   He's not the straw that stirs that drink in Dallas.   They know it.  He should know it.  Asking for $40M a year or whatever he was reportedly seeking is ludicrous and I know that in negotiations you ask for the stars and hope to get the moon.

I'd like to see the NFL start to get smarter with these QB deals.

You’re crazy. Of course NFL teams would. Bridgewater got $21M per and he’s a bad starting QB.

You don’t have to be the straw that stirs the drink. See Jared Goff.

By the way, the biggest sticking point apparently is the number of years. The Cowboys want him longer and he smartly wants a shorter deal so he can continue to cash in as the cap grows.

He’s getting fantastic advice and is playing this perfectly.

Dak has no reason to sign a long term contract, if he plays on the tag for the next two years, he will be the highest paid player in the NFL over that period. And after that, he gets to be a free agent and can write his own ticket.

Jerry F'ed up, should have signed him a year ago.
