I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

best thing to do is force yourself to stay awake until your normal bedtime. That always helped me

Yea I think Monday I went to bed at normal time, thought I was good to go. But the past two days I've gotten really tired around 2pm and knocked out for a couple hours and am up til 3-4am afterwards. Some of my friends recommend melatonin but I've never been one to take sleep aids, if that counts as one.

It's only been about 5 days since I've been back so I'll probably wait another week or so if I end up going that route. Didnt have this issue on my first deployment but I was also 5 years younger

That's interesting.   Granted it was only for a week, but going to Egypt, I stayed up the entire flight (both legs) because I just can't sleep on an airplane, and went to sleep at around 5 or 6 PM local time.  I woke up at 6 AM the next day ready to go.  No lag.   On the way back, I did the same basic thing.   Red eye flight out of Egypt (flight left at 2:30 AM local time).  I took a nap before we left the hotel, about 2-3 hours.  Then went to the airport, stayed up until we got to Frankfurt.  In Frankfurt, I was lucky enough to get upgraded to Business class.  There was a delay of about 3 hours to take off, and since I was in business class, I managed to get an hour or so nap.   Then I went back home and stayed up until around 8PM.  Slept in a little the next day, until around 8AM (that's sleeping in to me most of the time) and again, I was good to go.    That has always been my go to for fixing my schedule.  Stay up around the clock, go to bed a little early for the time zone I'm in... and then be ready to go the next day.  It's never let me down.   (I also have had people pushing Melatonin on me.  But, it doesn't work for me.  If I take it, I wake up about 2-3 hours into the night and have this weird 'listless' feeling, extreme exhaustion, but can't get back to sleep.  My whole body feels 'off' and worn down for no reason.  Arms and legs feel heavy, head in a fog, but can't actually get back to sleep for about an hour or so.  So, now I skip that as its worse than just being awake.)

For the sake of this discussion, I was 42 during the most recent time zone transition.

It just dawned on me that the Phillip Daniels mentioned in that post is our former DL coach...

Not sure that Goodwin is an upgrade over anyone.  And we don’t even know if Reagor can play.  He can run, which is an upgrade over AJ.

I think that's all fair.  I don't think there's any guarantee but I think Agholor was done here. In that sense, I see Goodwin is an upgrade.  I think a combination of Ward & Goodwin is better than Agholor from last season.

Because race is a determinate. Duh. How many whites get cycle cell anemia? Race, and more specifically its attendant DNA, is scientifically linked to certain strengths and weaknesses. Referring back to cycle cell anemia, the same gene that makes blacks susceptible to it is what makes them resistant to malaria. The planters sent their slaves into the death plantations in South Carolina and Louisiana where they would not go themselves and the slaves survived. Cycle cell anemia is Nature’s revenge.

Accept the science and don’t worry about the political issues of it. That’s for ignorant a-holes

Not accusing you of anything here; just saying my piece. Too much pissing and moaning about this; cancel the season and work to make the country healthy in 2021.

The sickle cell case is a real triumph of evolutionary theory. Once the genetics of sickle cell disease was worked out it was determined that the sickle cell allele was lethal (or at least highly disadvantageous) and recessive. Individuals who are homozygous for the sickle allele should be quickly weeded out of the population and the allele should disappear. Yet the allele and the disease persisted. Theory suggested that the only way this can happen is if there is a selective (evolutionary) advantage to individuals who are heterozygous. Sure enough, heterozygotes were found to be resistant to malaria.

Found this works for me but probably won’t for you traveling on military craft.  I redeye to Europe with the intention of getting there in the morning.  I have a couple glasses of wine before I board and that helps me sleep on the plane. First day, I am active.  No sitting, walking around.  On business I always traveled Friday nights so I had a couple of days to sightsee and adjust.  I drink a couple glasses of wine and go to bed when they go to bed.  Maybe a wee early. The activity and the wine (up since 6-8 am Europe time means late night US time) means I am pooped by the time I go to bed. The wine puts me fast asleep.  Next day, up early, active, and similar routine and I am pretty much acclimated by the time bed time rolls around. Similar in reverse coming back. Fly during the day. No sleeping on the plane, which isn’t hard. Push myself all day to stay up late.  No booze.  Because I pushed myself, I wake up regular time the next day and stay active.  Push myself until bed time and am usually acclimated.

I think what is hurting me the most is that I'm in a mandatory restriction of movement (ROM) status after coming back so I'm not allowed to leave my apartment, so I'm not really able to go out and do anything that can keep me awake during the day. I work out for about 30ish minutes just doing body weight workouts but aside from that it is a lot of sitting around.

Made some bread and pasta yesterday, might make some new dough today to try another type of bread tomorrow

I'm going to go out on a limb and say what seems to be happening in Washington is probably a league wide issue.  Maybe not to that degree but you always hear the NFL is a fraternity.  There's no way players on other teams or agents didn't know about this and no one said a word. The NFL is just a BIG MONEY, who do you know, what have you done for me lately business.  It's business/money first, football second.  It really sucks to be realistic about the sport we all love.

My interest for sports in general has really died down during the pandemic.  Gone are the days of watching football just for the sake of watching football and it really sucks.

Any Given Sunday was probably pretty close to home on some issues. Same with that USA football series a few years back that had a team fixer.

Yup.  This is why I think it happens league wide.  You can't tell me that players change teams, become coaches and join the carousel of going from team to team and they don't share their secrets on how to get away with almost anything.  I'd bet money that the NFL is a very dirty league.  It would be interesting to get Chris Long's opinion on this.  He seems like a guy that wouldn't be scared to share what he really knows now that he isn't tied to the NFL anymore.

Try eating celery before you go to bed. I was skeptical at first but worked for me.

Something to do with the magnesium or something that has a relaxing affect on the body.

Covid is so restrictive especially in an apartment. My daughter talks about trying to get a mile of walking in from her apartment. Awful.

Playmakers which aired on ESPN around 15 years ago or so was pretty raw. I think the NFL made ESPN cancel it before they got the MNF rights.

I have that who series on DVD...need to break that out again.  From an action football standpoint it's really weak but the storylines are prob very accurate.

Probably why that NFL scout on Twitter said it happens all over. Considering what happens in that city as a whole for power and to keep things quiet I seriously doubt it's just the team doing those things.

That's me on about every level.  The money first attitudes, athlete social media tones, and political stances...the division, hate, disrespect, and disagreement of the world injected straight into what was once unifying...all of it combined...just has started to turn me away from caring so much about this game (and most others).  Sports was a great aside from that BS.   Now, its just overrun by it all.

And we all thought the Foles/Wentz or "Is Agholor any good?" debates were tiring.  Geez.

Once the actual game starts, I'm usually fine with it. I still enjoy the actual essence of football. I don't tune in until after the anthem, pre-game, etc. I don't have an issue with the kneeling. If you want to kneel, then kneel. I just hate how the media/networks eat it up and blow it out of proportion zooming in on every player. I couldn't care less.

Josh Dobbs should quit football and go work for NASA.  He would make a much bigger impact.  I'm pretty sure that's what his next career will be.  Bright guy.  Actual Rocket Scientist.

What you study in college and what you "are" are 2 different things.  He's a quarterback.

A lot of analysts are huge on Edwards this year. He seems to be the unanimous favorite on the team to have a breakout season.

Peterson can be a little hyperbolic sometimes, but yeah Edwards is getting a lot of love. Hopefully pairing his football IQ with Davion Taylor's athleticism turns that LB group into a strength. I won't hold my breath but it's nice to see some positive reports at least.

I can’t really get excited about a linebacker until he’s average or at least flashes in pass coverage, not that a top-notch  two-down LB is without value. I just worry with his lack of athleticism that he’ll be picked on.

This is where coaching comes into play, Edwards lacks long speed but smart LBs can be effective in short area coverage with anticipation (of both the receiver's route and the QB).

Edwards isn't slow (4.77), the day of the 5.0 two down MLB are gone. It's just that our other LBs are fast (4.44 to 4.65)

Just don't let him get caught covering someone like Sanders on a wheel route - but there aren't a lot of 3 down RBs like Sanders in the league.

He'll be off the field against RBs who are passing down specialists.

I'll agree with that. I like what he brings to the group but he's not a unit changer by himself. Granted a solid homegrown contributor at LB is more than we've had for awhile now (Hicks when he wasn't injured?) so I'll take it.
