They don’t have a great D-Line and their secondary blows. Not to mention they lost their second best o-lineman and technically don’t have a QB right now.

I just don’t get why you’d use a first round pick on Lamb to essentially replace Randall Cobb. You just signed Cooper to be the #1 for awhile and Gallup is your deep threat... in an offense whose RB will be the focal point.

Ran out of likes. This is what I have been saying all night

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I am just hoping Dallass taking Lamb is a blessing in disguise. They are gonna wanna pass all the time, and forget about ewok. That is when they are at their worst.

dang teams boards seemed to be all over the place. there was no consensus top WR.

Which is so telling. And so much of that comes down to fit.

Makes me really lay less blame on Howie for not wanting to gamble extra on any of them with quantity of picks being the main priority.

As others have said prior to the draft (and every draft before this one): wait and see. This team is better than it was a couple of hours ago.

Dak threw for 4.9k yards last year. He is going to major damage now. His head coach can run a good offense too.

Cowboys got a steal.

Something @eagle45 has talked about a bunch, our WR drafting has been pretty bad. And Reagor May bust. But at least they went a different direction. It shows change, if nothing else. They didn’t pick size, they didn’t pick "safe, high floor”. They went with speed, explosion and ceiling. That’s not what Matthews, Agholor or JJAW were. Right or wrong, it’s different. Which is better than nothing.

I disagree with Simms on this, but his take:

That’s my point. Your pick should never be that obvious, especially if you are picking at 21

But they can see that from watching games from last year, doesn't matter what the eagles said or did leading up to the draft. Everyone in the league knew from day 1 we were not trying to go into the season with a broken Alshon, a likely bust in JJAW, and an older djax. There's nothing they could have done IMO we can't blame them for it

Here’s a random prediction...

No OTAs this year. There’s about a 90% chance there’s an abbreviated training camp and preseason. Even when the Eagles take another WR in the draft they’re going to have little time to get Reagor and the other rookie acclimated with the playbook, build chemistry with Wentz, develop them as a pro WR, and perhaps figure out if they can play at this level.

That being said... Raiders drafted Ruggs tonight and already have Tyrell Williams, Zay Jones, and Hunter Renfrow. Where does that leave our old buddy Nelson Agholor? Perhaps on the outside looking in. Don’t be shocked to see him brought back as an emergency band aid.

His speed isn’t his best asset. He plays fast. But even if he isn’t fast, he’s elusive, explosive and plays big. If he was John Ross and drafted for his speed, I’d agree. He’s not one dimensional

They could have done something in FA to at least make it seem like they could wait until Round 2. I honestly can’t remember them telegraphing a pick this much besides obvious choices like Wentz and Lane Johnson.

agree. with the way the draft process was this year cant really blame Howie. they seemed to be on Reagor for a while & did they homework on him so lets see how he develops. as long as doug & howie feel they got their guy & can get him into the offense way more then Groh was able to with JJ then im fine with the pick. plus we cross the vertical threat off the board. if we can get mims or higgins or even Gabe Davis in the later rounds ill be fine with the WRs. pressure is on them to really hope they can develop Reagor. Excited to see what Doug, Rich, & Press  can do with Reagor. also what moorehead can do with reagor

Yup. It's like people think that Howie has a "veto" card that he can play at any time to nullify other teams picks. For Chrissakes, other teams get to pick players too.

I just hate knee-jerk negativity. It's like some people just want to be upset all the time.

He’s just an idiot plain and simple. Literally the ESP of National reporters

It's perfectly reasonable to be upset they didn't trade up to get him. I don't see how that is an unfair take. There was talk all spring about the Eagles possibly moving up in the draft. All the reporters who cover the team say if a top guy slips and falls to the 15-17 range, look out for Howie. That's exactly what happened. And it was the best guy in the damn class, it wasn't Ruggs.

It's not like the people who are unhappy are just pulling this out of their a**. This has been the narrative leading up the the draft all spring. Every single reporter to a man, even the ones who were skeptical about trading up like Caplan and Mosher said things will change if a guy they love falls to exactly where Lamb ended up falling.

And he went to a division rival. We had the worst year of receiving the NFL has seen in a long time and the best guy from a great class fell and we missed out. We missed out on Hopkins as well. I like Reagor, but that's the best you can do for Carson Wentz? It's Fing embarrassing.

He did. And that got them the #17 pick and no playoff game. I am more scared of the Redskins and Chase Young.

Desean is gonna be in the tub.

I am not so sure about that.  Given the Eagles like to develop rookies, I could see Reagor playing some slot and spelling DJax.  That probably does away with any leg issues for DJax.

So a couple thoughts on the first round as a whole...

I think the best value pick was the 49ers getting Javon Kinlaw at pick 14. He’s going to step right in and wreak havoc for that defense. They also got an extra 4th for trading back one spot.

The biggest (and really only) "wow” was the Packers trading up for a QB. If I’m Rodgers, I’m pissed. "A loaded WR draft class and they trade up for my eventual replacement?”

Not surprised..Jeudy was my #1...Lamb I loved but it's hard to objectively look at a guy who's entire career was with Mayfield/Murray/Hurts.  Ruggs was more polished than Reagor but I had them essentially a split.  There's a reason Ruggs went before Reagor though and that's the polish and experience.  Reagor with Wentz will be a good pairing.

What did they pass on?   Jefferson?  Aiyuk?   Yes.   Lamb?  No.

They passed on nobody, they let the chips fall...if Reagor wasn't there there was plenty of talent on the board already.  Build for the long term instead of the now.

If that is true, that tells me they were tunnel visioned on speed.

The Eagles didn’t want to give up pick 53. That was the deal breaker and rightfully so. There’s too many other potential needs to fill at that spot.
