Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

This wasn’t a draft pick as much as a powerful message from the Eagles that they don’t think Carson Wentz can stay healthy.

They’re admitting that there’s a problem here. They’re admitting that maybe Wentz just isn’t The Guy.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/2020-nfl-draft-only-one-way-interpret-eagles-second-round-jalen-hurts-carson-wentz

And the media campaign begins. Lots of luck Carson.

I've never in my time as an Eagles fan not see one single fan back a pick. This is TATErgeddon if I've ever seen one.

The only logic I have for this is that they're afraid if Wentz gets one more serious injury he'll pull a Luck. I'm not buying the Taysom Hill role. They view Hurts as a future starter, potentially in 2022 when they have an out in Wentz's contract.

Howie probably looking at the division knowing we can compete for the playoffs but not truly compete for the SB for 2-3 years.  He's riding his SB security and I don't like it.

So he makes a pick to ensure that?

why?  why on earth would we need Hurts in the red zone, that is where Wentz excels.

This pick makes zero sense to me, it reeks of arrogance.

If you couldn't tell that was a largely sarcastic post.  I thought the Philly Usual remark would make that clear.

I don't know what the thought process here really is...  This makes no sense to me.  Yes, Wentz excels in the RZ.  The Eagles also run the ball in the RZ fairly well.   I don't know what's going on anymore... we are all in shell shock.

Was he?  Goedert over DJ Chark?

How many quality guys who would pencil into defined roles in the starting lineup do we need to pass up for cute formations with high picks backing up probowlers?  Because we have done it twice now.

Yes, Goedert was a great pick, especially where we got him.  He's a different type of TE than Ertz is and both of them compliment each other.  And Goedert is only going to get better.

There is a 100% chance this happens.

The only way it doesn’t ultimately catch back up to him is if Jalen hurts winds up being really special or they trade them and get a kings ransom.  Like I said in a previous post the Eagles didn’t have the luxury of just drafting a quarterback and hoping to get a kings ransom down the road Like teams who have Built up good enough rosters. Because of the Misses at corner and Misses at wide receiver they were forced to trade draft capital. And those trades also weren’t great as none besides slay are still on the team. They didn’t have the luxury of just taking a quarterback in round two and not getting a guy who can make an immediate impact in a future impact

Yea I'm not gonna hang my hat on a division title when not only did we struggle to win that title in a crap division, we also lost in the first round. They need to kill the rest of this draft

I just skimmed the article but I agree. It’s a bad message. This off-season was supposed to be about building Wentz’s confidence. This does the opposite. Psyche is a real thing. Saying "Carson is mature enough to handle it” is just dumb. Yeah, he’s mature enough not to show it or say something out of line. But it doesn’t change what’s in his heart

Drafting a 2nd TE and a 2nd QB in round 2 are why we don't have a 1st lot of other things.

I miss the days of when our front office waited until they were on the clock to argue about taking the lower rated WR on their board.

We have a ton of holes.  We are old at DE. Old at Center.  Old at Safety.  Questionable at LG. Questionable at WR.  No linebackers.  And what the F good is cap space now????   Free Agency has come and gone!  A division title?!!  Hahahahaha.  We were 9-7 and lost in the first round.  You’re a mess bro.

You think we lost in the first round of the playoffs but I am a mess?

You trade Wentz and

that's neither here nor there for howie.  he wants draft capital for future investments.  howie sees EVERYTHING as draft captial.  and the greatest draft capital?  quarterbacks.  they also draw the biggest contracts.

wentz is too good NOT to win enough games to get a monster second contract.  howie does NOT want that as it will capsize (heh, cap) the team.  hurts is the answer.  he'll be the gadget guy / guy backing up wentz for the next two years...  and then howie will pull the trigger on a wentz trade, getting as much draft capital as he can..  while also being able to lowball hurts on a contract after his rookie one.

if the eagles suck with hurts, all the more capital to get their "next" qb star.  they'll have the picks from wentz and a potential bad season to move up to #1 and draft whoever.

I hate this line of thinking. Maybe that means the Eagles got the QB prospect the other teams wanted. It’s not like teams just pick off a list of QBs, and when one goes you just take the next best one.

But yeah, still dumbfounding.

Agreed.   Dumbfounding pick yes.   Total shocker.

But the logic here is highly flawed.   This is the QB position.   Teams don't just go after the next highest rated QB like they do at other positions to fill holes.     In theory the Eagles may have selected the last draft-able QB.    Not literally, just speaking to the flawed logic here by Rosenblatt.

Which team was in NE that wouldn't have already considered him earlier in the 2nd round? It was dumb pick and beyond that it looks like it was a terrible reach.

Welp I’m blocked from Frank.

He basically says the Eagles are worried about Wentz' durability since he has had season ending injuries over the past 3 seasons and they basically think that trend could continue.

I agree, but it made sense because we needed another TE. This takes it to another level. Two TEs can be on the field at the same time. Two QBs shouldn’t be. We drafted a clipboard holder

I'm fully expecting Alshon Jeffery to be a starter next season for this team now.

I don’t think it’s gonna be possible to hate our next pick.

But the Eagles will get ripped for this pick until or unless something happens for Hurts to prove his worth.

If Hurts never plays, then Wentz is healthy and playing well, so we're making the playoffs and/or competitive every year.

The problem with insurance is no one likes paying for it, and no one wants to have to use it.

Hurts is better than McCown and Sudfeld; I’ll at least say that much

Most of the cap will get rolled over since we'll be in cap hell next year. Fn ridiculous

Why?

QB is by far the most important position. If you can win an extra 3 games per season with a second round pick, that’s a GREAT return.

That’s rationalizing the pick. How about this rationalization, knowing you have a wild hair up your a** you wait until the 4th round where he probably would still be there and you fight the urge off and go with the best players available at positions of need. A luxury we can’t afford IMO
