Still not defending the pick but I had backup QB's in my mocks in the 4th rounds or later and every one of them were developmental types.  Not one of them would have been ready to backup Wentz this season, imo.

Without much camp time, likely neither will Hurts, however at least he can potentially win you a game with his legs Tebow style. Guess none of the other QBs offered that.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Is it a terrible message to Desean to draft Reagor? Come on — this is the NFL. You need depth, you need competition. If competition breaks a player’s will, then they are in the wrong business.

That’s a terrible comparison. Multiple receivers play in a game/at the same time. Not so with QB’s.

If they were "Qb developers” why haven’t they developed Sudfeld into a backup after 3 years? The QB last year couldn’t make the practice squad. If we want to say he can play the Taysom Hill role -  I’ll counter with I think it’s dumb the Saints take Brees off the field. If your best player is your QB - HE stays on the field. Different schemes on Offense? ... you don’t think of plays you think of players!

This pick stinks of an analytical guy making the pick and having no idea how s____ effects the locker room.
Couldn’t disagree more with the pick or the QB development BS.

Edwards is a good player. Good pick for the Raiders.

Great pick for Dallas. Beast.

Nobody is saying you don’t need a backup QB. But there’s no reason for this team to spend a 2nd round pick on a backup QB when:

1. We already have one

2.  Could get another one cheaper if you don’t like the ones we have

3. Have so many needs because we haven’t drafted for squat

4. Had players to fill at least one said need in the very place we took the backup Wr that we didn’t need.

it’s like buying a new Infiniti as a backup in case the tire on your Lexus goes flat.  Just a stupid waste of resources.

Not only do I disagree with you on football, but your taste in cars sucks too! :P

I think Wentz has mentioned retirement. Only reason to take Hurts.

That was the first thing that passed through my mind when they made the pick.

right. at that point its a really nice draft class. And what the hell if Wentz gets hurt and Hurts actually does somethign positive? All around homerun in that scenario.

Agreed.  I think both you and I had QB's in the later rounds in some of our mocks but they all were developmental types.  None of them would have been (most likely) ready to backup Wentz this year.  I didn't research Hurts much but from what I've seen tonight, he seems pretty dynamic...and more "NFL ready" than any of the developmental guys I had in the later rounds.

I doubt Hurts will be ready either, especially with no real offseason to prep.

I don’t mean to say QB wasn’t a need. But it wasn’t a 2nd round investment kind of need.

Mayock will have the Raiders back as contenders

Mayock is crushing this draft.

Seems like Mayock has a plan... Z, slot and X (and a corner to boot).

You know what's crazy? The Eagles are going to challenge that notion. That's actually a big part of the plan

they have NOT lost faith in wentz, but they have added the ability to move on from him.  think about what you just said, they just signed him to a mega extension.  how much do you think howie likes giving those big contracts?

with hurts, the eagles gave themselves the ability to move on from wentz when he will eventually require another big contract / extension.  it's not a knock on wentz showing they don't believe in him any more.  it's them saying "yes, we know you are good..  and we DO NOT want to afford you when your next contract comes around".  and howie knows he'll get a boatload in a wentz trade.  saving $$$ AND getting draft capital?  how can that NOT make howie damn near orgasm.

If Wentz somehow manages to stay healthy and win games here, they will retain him. Not even they are that stupid.

When is he going to be great? The goal is for Wentz to play the entire season. Hurts only plays in preseason and maybe when we shutdown a team which is rare. There's really not much of a chance for him to show off

Maybe if/when Wentz gets hurt again. He's not exactly the poster boy for health.

Mike Mayock has approached the WR position the way I hoped that Howie would.    3 Top 85 picks at WR for the Raiders.

😒

Dallas is killing the draft.  I hate it.

Las Vegas (weird) is drafting the weapons Carson deserves.

Please stop.  Even in 2023 Wentz is a $15M dead cap hit to move on from.

Wentz is #1.  Hurts is now #2.  That will not change anytime soon, despite what you will hear in the national media who have an agenda to stir controversy

This draft has been just about the most Philly sports thing, ever.

Watch.  They will play multiple QBs in the same game, and at the same time.   It's coming.

Dallas havint a extremely good draft. Say what you want they got lamb who was the best available player on the board at 17 and arguably the top wr prospect. They got diggs who frankly i think i wouldn’t have been shocked they go after in round one if lamb wasn’t there. And Gallimore is a day one starter at DT.

That’s my thinking.  And was a concern in January.

His uncle addressed the question in the Hurts thread and he said retirement has never come up in a conversation.

I went into tonight thinking Mims falling to 53 was a pipe dream. It happened. I thought the Eagles would go LB or S. Or pass rusher.

We drafted Tim Tebow. Unreal.
