What would you rather do at backup QB?

Nate Sudfeld stinks; people need to face that fact.  He lost his job to a 42-year-old semi-retired McCown.

last i remember nate was injured.  he was set up pretty nicely to be the backup before the injury.

You keep saying this.  They already gave Wentz a second contract.

okay, fine nitpick..  he had his rookie contract, and now his extension, so technically yes...  he is on his second contract.  i'm talking about after his current deal is nearing its end.  he will play well enough to ask for even more.  drafting hurts, the birds are saying that by that time..  they will not want to afford that contract.

drafting hurts is not the birds losing faith in carson, it's them saying they know he'll play well enough for them to not want to afford whatever next contract he should be asking for.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

If Wentz mentioned retirement to the Eagles, the decision suddenly makes sense and isn't magical thinking.

Wentz is someone who has had some ideas and passions outside of football.  His love of the game and desire to win has NEVER been questioned though.

But this isn't the most unreasonable speculation given the sheer lunacy of the pick.

And head injuries are in the news... and he's an expectant father... and this is as much completely fabricated as anything.

I've been going through a range of angry emotions the last hour or so. I keep thinking how much I defended Wentz's injuries to all my friends. I just can't deny the fact anymore that Howie & co think Wentz can't be counted on to finish a season. It saddens me to my core and now we have a QB to step in for the inevitable.

Damn, Douglas got A****n Davis? Maybe Howie was holding him back. Damn.

He's killing it.

Berry is killing it.

The evidence is now obvious.

Howie needs to handle the cap and that's it.

get ready to trade down from 103 and have no more picks tonight.

Wow, Anfernee Jennings went way higher than I projected.  I had him in the 4th rounds or later in most of my mocks.

I honestly don’t hate hurts. Or think he’s a bad QB prospect. I hate the fact the eagles took him at 53 when they have massive other needs because of poor drafting at CB and WR over the years and traded away multiple 3rd rounders because of their bad job evaluating.  To me we weren’t in a position to have a luxury pick of a backup QB that we use like hill and try in 3 years to trade off for a Kings ransom. If we had done better trades and drafting I’d say go for it you have given yourself that luxury. They haven’t. So future they might reap benefits but Carson’s prime is right now at 27 and you could’ve used multiple players sitting there at 53 that could be key cogs now and future.

I'm in the same boat.  Hurts is a guy that is easy to root for.  But... there's no denying this was out of left field from a fan perspective.  But, Carson and Jalen will handle it the right way.

Obviously I'm in a very small minority, but I really like the Hurts pick. As a pure back-up QB, no. But as a potentially better than Taysum Hill gadget player, absolutely. If used correctly, our offense could be a nightmare to defend. I know it's unpopular to say, but I commend the bold pick!

I wouldn't go as far as to say I LIKE it. But Hurts is a young coachable uber athletic player who can be considered both a developmental backup QB and dual threat gadget player.  I'm a bit bummed about it but I'm not building Howie Voodoo dolls to burn like some Eagles fans either.

One thing that is a shame about this wildly unpopular pick is that I think Hurts has super high football character and is a real leader.    I like him as a prospect.

Too bad hes not a good qb

so we drafted baby doug??

No thanks. We have enough undersized slot corners

Amik has great ball skills and is fiesty for his size. He will be a nice pick.

They also didn't develop Thorsen either. Howie can't draft.

Chip Kelly was 1000%right about Howie, we should have listened.

Agreed.   Him or maybe Troy Dye?

Would have Dye a rd later in terms of value, if that matters much

Yup.  Don’t like him as a #1.  Don’t mind him at all as a #2

Show me proof that he isn't a good QB. I'm not disagreeing, I barely have watched him. I just need some rationalization at this point and would like to be educated because his stat line last year says otherwise (which is all I know about his production)

The draft is for the future.  4 years to develop at $1.15M per season

you’re right it is. However i could’ve had both at another position. Immediate impact and future at 1.15m. Your argument holds no water as i could have drafted mims or dobbins or a corner or a safety as well had an impact future and today.

So i lose today but still have future with hurts. i get both with another prospect. And likely prospects who imo are better. Seriously keep sugar coating to get yourself through go right ahead.

this is also not i hate hurts. I actually liked hurts. However i didn’t even view him as a second rounder. He imo was a 3rd. That was a luxury pick when the eagles have been throwing away picks in bad trades cause of poor drafting at key positions they still have issues at.

This is what drives me crazy.  Round 1 and Round 2 players should be making an immediate impact.  I hate this mindset.

Yep.  The coaching the fans up to boo him more grew old around 9 pm last night.

I like the authenticity of him engaging with all of the webcam fans before each pick, so charismatic with his hand in his pocket

Might be for the best.  Maybe we could trade our 2020 3rd for a 2021 3rd so a different GM can make the choice.

I agree.  He's a good kid, he's got ability.   It just is so far out in left field... in the 2nd round.  Round 4, and there might have been a blip on the radar, but nothing of significance.  But at #53, without another pick until #103.   That might have been the worst part.  If this was a situation where they had 2 2nd rounders, then it would have taken the sting out.  But, Hurts in the second and then nearly 50 picks go by.

Absolutely.   The Eagles did not have this luxury.   This isn't just about this specific draft.   This is about the failures of Sydney Jones and Rasul Douglas and JJaw, etc.   Those draft disappointments left holes on the roster, so the Eagles did not really have the luxury to use #53 on an experiment.

Maybe if more Top 100 picks in the past 3-4 drafts weren't total ghosts on gameday, this might...might...have been more explainable.

I’m not sugar coating anything — I’m living in the real world.

Hurts is a Philadelphia Eagle; Mims and Dobbins are not.

Be a fan and get on board with your new player
