So the only rational and reasonable answer is that Wentz not wanting to risk his health not much further ( Luck ), put them on notice. To avoid the pitchforks at the gate they should disclose this to the loyal fanbase but then again may not be legal. They could put out very subtle hints however. I’ll give Howie and DP the benefit of the doubt because there is no other logical explanation

Dude, that isn't the only "rational " reason.  They think he's enough of a play maker that he's worth a 2. They think that having a Hill type guy to come in will help this offense and have a backup q.b. at the same time.

While most of us disagree with that and would rather have had a 2and w.r. there it's still far from all these conspiracy theories you guys are throwing out there.

Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

You don't make a 2nd round pick for a backup QB when you have a young franchise QB on your roster who you've just signed for mega bucks.  Unless of course you have everything you need at all the other positions which clearly we do not have.

My guess is they think they do. At least enough to pick a gadget in the 2nd round

Nope.  2nd worst pic of the night for the Eagles.  Serious reach.  It’s almost like they just spin a wheel and whoever’s name it lands on, is our guy.

Thanks

That's not my guess.  I think Howie is telling the truth when he says that the Eagles philosophy includes a VERY high prio on developing QBs.  I think they are trying to cover the trend of duel threat QBs like the Ravens QB.  I would have no issue if the pick had been say a 4th but we needed a player who can actually contribute in the 2nd this year, LB or maybe a pass rushing DE would have been a better option OR just go BPA anywhere but QB.

Waaay too much talented passed up on for a developmental gimmick player.

Ok, after sleeping on it, while I still HATE the allocation of resources and timing of picking up not only insurance but a project insurance plan, I’m more comfortable with sitting back to see how it plays out.

I liked and for the most part trusted our leadership group before this - and one pick that I clearly don’t understand Their plan for shouldn’t change that until I see their plan in action.

Here's my issue though. Going in to this draft we all said it was a massive draft for this team. A lot of us had question marks over Howie in some way and he's completely messed this up AGAIN. If it was just one pick then ok but it's not. Howie messes up the draft every year.

You’re not going to get a guy capable of being s good QB in the fourth round. Oh, as for that quote from the Tuna about two QBs, I have two words in response: Jeff Hostetler.

Yeah, not me.  We are only a couple of players and some luck away from having a shot.  You could go OT, DE, CB, S, LB, WR but NOT QB at #53.  In fact, I'd say QB is the only position I would have not wanted had we just gone BPA.

So reach for a back up QB in the second. Great strategy that.

Oh really?  Tell that to the other good QBs who've been drafted in the 4th or lower.  Can you say Tom Brady for example?

Both Foles and Hostetler were multi year vets when their chance came.  Both of them were 3rd round choices.  You just don't go at #53 for this type of role.  Makes zero sense.

In 2017 we won a Super Bowl because our second QB played great. In 2019 we lost a playoff game because our second QB didn’t. If you have a QB that many here labeled as injury-prone you better have a good second QB.

Then sign a good back up. Don’t Fing draft one in the damn second round.

Yes thank you! That's exactly what you do not this freaking nonsense.

So, who did you have.in mind? Fact is, Hurts went almost exactly where he was projected to, just not to us.

It's not just the position. It is this specific player: Jalen Hurts. He can do stuff others can't. He was available at 53. Those things rarely happen for players like him.

He's not even that good. He wasn't better than others who were on the board.

Like I said, I hate the allocation of resources and the timing - in the draft and where this team currently sits.

but it is so different that what I would have done, now I’m really interested to see how it plays out.

maybe I just quickly moved to the "acceptance” stage?  Because no matter how much I dislike it, it’s a done deal.

time to see what happens next

The line of how important the backup QB was to us in 2017 is like like saying how Danny Watkins will instantly be the highest performing rookie in the league and it was such a smart pick for a ready to go player at LG in a short offseason.

Or how Juan is such a good OL coach who went to all the defensive meetings  and has such a unique insight as an OL expert.

Keeping swallowing down what they shovel.

We have one in Suds.  Hurts wasn't drafted to play traditional QB.  There is some other "we are smarter than you" thing happening here.

Was any other QB drafted last night? I kinda tuned out after the Hurts pick...

Again! Because Howie thinks he's smarter than everyone else and he's not.

I agree Wentz can't be concerned about Hurts. If he is then that's an issue and a concern. But if I'm Wentz I'm mega peed off that I've not been given more weapons to work with.

I think Wentz understands there are still 5 picks left and the Eagles can still get another WR, OL and a complementary RB to help him and Miles Sanders out

I have said that I think reading the board is a strength of Howies. I don’t think this is a reach in general. Just feel like it was for us.

Hopefully today, Howie can find some players who can contribute to the team soon. I have no clue why they picked a qb in the second round. A head scratcher for sure.
