Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I just can't shake feeling like Howie is trying too hard to have people talk about him like they do Belichick and Carroll/Schneider.  Smarter than everyone else.

I'm responding to a post that claims we would need "MULTIPLE" first round picks.  That's just silly talk.  If we get 3 years of a good backup and even just a second round pick for #53, that's a win.  Cheap, good backup QBs are extremely valuable.  Then you get your pick back?  That would be a massive win.

By the interest comparison... a 2021 1st = a 2020 2nd.

So... if we trade him after 3 seasons, which means after 2022 season for a 2023 pick... that means a 2023 1st = 2022 2nd = 2021 3rd = 2020 4th.  We used a 2020 2nd.  Now, you say we got cheap back up QB play... so, it's not quite that bad.  But, we definitely still over paid.

In the past I would have agreed with you that year 1 will be a wash.  But things have changed in the NFL.  Rookies routinely contribute.  And he has the athletic profile that makes a year 1 contribution more likely.  If Wentz gets hurt weeks 10-14, I think Hurts gets the nod.  And at that point having a good backup QB who can win 2 or 3 of those games might be the difference between winning the division and missing the playoffs.

And this year there's no OTAs.  Hurts getting the nod doesn't mean that he's ready for the nod.  You said 'good backup' play, not just backup play.

These guys can’t draft well enough.  It’s obvious by now.  And with the Cowboys continuing to draft very well every year, we are stuck in reverse.  We get to watch the key players we have in their prime age out, as the franchise QB is not supported properly, and the team declines,  awesome.

realize it soon please Lurie...

What's $5M in cap space worth in draft picks?

I’m not as mad as I was last night but it is still a bit of a head scratcher. Maybe out of the players that were available at 53 they didn’t like any of them as much as we or others did. Maybe they like some players better they know they can get in the later rounds.

Yeah, I think with two months of practice he'll be ready to play.  Obviously no one knows at what level he will play - he could be a total flop or set the world on fire. With his athletic ability, the floor is pretty high IMO.

No idea.  We'll see if the Eagles have to pay to get someone to take Alshon off their hands.

Anyway...

Tried to salvage the last 4 rounds.

Think it turned out ok.

Maybe the Eagles will now trade Hurts and Alshon to Jax for the DE that I can’t spell his name right now lol.

The Hurts pick is a surprise,  especially when absolutely no one assumed they would go their for a backup in the 2nd round.  I don't love the pick, but I can see why would want to invest a pick in a backup that you can more or less rely on being their for multiple years.  As has been said, this pick here helps to balance the books and add a talented player with the right attitude.  Will it open up the playbook?  Could do.

I don't quite understand the Wentz conspiracies that people are floating about.  If you look at his injury history and the rotating QB room, hell yeah, this makes a ton of sense.  Carson could play another 10 years if he wants to and it won't make the pick any better or worse.

I did feel for Hurts on his presser last night. He was clearly still taking it in, so he really needed some time to calm down before speaking to Phillies finest.

Can you imagine how media and fans would be if we took the Pats model in this draft?  Some of the reaction seems overtly emotional...  Almost like some players we like and invested time into were rejected and it;s  a chance to vent.

Like the Taylor pick.  It's a 4th round pick essentially and what you look for.  I am looking forward to the rest of the draft.

Ngakoue.   But, honestly, he doesn't fit on the salary cap for 2021, even with the salary cap savings for Jeffery.  They'd still need to dump other salary.

Lol I was mainly joking. I think Alshon will be an Eagle for the 2020 season.

Wow.  I missed the end of the draft last night... just caught Goodell.

I'm thinking he was drunk.  That was some serious slurred speech at the end there.

As a point of reference, the Browns took on Brock Osweiler's contract from the Texans in what was essentially a cap space for draft picks trade.  The Texans gave up a 2nd round pick and a 6th round pick in exchange for $10M in cap space and a 4th round  pick.  So $10M of cap space is worth, roughly, a low 2nd round pick. Cap space is also convertible from one season to the next, so cumulative cap space saved over the length of Hurts' contract matters.  So, if we are saving about $5M in cap space over 4 years, based on the Texans/Browns trade we are getting roughly 2 second round picks worth of cap space value.

Obviously this is not an exact science, but it's something to think about.

The crazy distinction here is that the Eagles want to groom a starter at QB rather than a backup. That’s what is implied with a second round pick no matter how many gadget plays he can be used for. It’s hard to see that use of resources as anything less.

Yes...by ‘QB factory’, they always want to have 2 starting caliber QBs on the roster. They want to have a great backup situation as well as having the ability to trade one of them for a 1st at a time of need.

Not saying I agree with this goal.  It’s aggressive and has definite cons to it...but that’s how I see their philosophy

Howie is dumb and this is a wasted asset

Unless Wentz told them he could retire at any time and they thought what the hell, lets go Ravens. I would then hope the signing bonus is somewhat recouped and rescinded against he cap, it should be. Then it would suck, the draft capital we gav up to get Wentz no matter hw bad a drafter Howie can be.

WHERE IS @NoDak ???  Would like his feedback

A lot easier to defend if they had hit on more picks over the last few years. That's one of the main reasons this is a tough pick to digest.

Gotta assume he's at home in North Dakota.

Roseman on Taylor...

"This guy is one of the fastest, most explosive players in the draft,’’ Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. "He’s got some raw to his game, which was why he was there in the third round.

"But he’s got some rocket ship to him. He can find the ball. He can play in space. It’s a space game. He has the physical ability to cover the slot, to cover tight ends, cover backs. Those kind of guys are hard to find.’’

"At the end of the day, when we try to figure out our vision for this team and how we want to look, we want to be fast,’’ Roseman said. "That’s how coach (Doug) Pederson feels. That’s how I feel. And that’s how Andy feels.

"We’re not going to sacrifice talent for speed. But at the same time, this is a speed league. We talked a lot about position-less players and guys you can line up all over the field. It’s so hard to play station-to-station football on offense. And on defense, if you have a weakness, offensive coaches will find it. They’ll find the weak link and exploit it.

"So it has been an offseason objective for us to get a little younger and get more speed on the field. But we’re not selecting these players because they’re fast. We’re selecting them because they’re good football players.’’

He sounded even worse the first night!  He's really awkward on script/camera but when he was interacting with the Diggs brothers he seemed like a normal down to earth human being!!

I thought Goodell looked tired yesterday and kind of stir crazy by the end of it.  For someone with such little charisma, he worked hard over the past couple of days
