I’d like to see both Hightower and Watkins on it and the / be for JJAW/Ward.  But I think what you have is more likely.

The way I see it, the biggest talent deficit we are left with is now at DE.  But that’s for next year.

Or is it? Step forward Yannick.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Now that the draft is over and with the possibility of no college football season this year, what does everyone think about giving up the 2021 1st for Yannick?

Pass

i want to see how this works out

I know getting Marquise is a fun addition but I’m beginning to think he’s not even gonna make the roster unless he’s 100% healthy and playing up to the level of his 1 good year. He seems like an insurance policy if Hightower or Quez burn out and don’t make the roster year 1

Saints, Bucs, Vikings, 49ers, and Seahawks are all easily more talented teams than the Eagles in the NFC. Packers and Cowboys are on their level.

If the Eagles want any chance to compete this year they’re going to have to add some veteran talent. Preferably at DE and WR.

Agree, if this continues it could be a Clowney situation mid season and jags dump him for a 4th

The 2021 draft is nothing like this one was. Also will be a weak DE draft.

For the right price.  I’d want Barnett to be in any Yannick trade.  Barnett costs $10.5 next year.  There’s no way we extend Yannick and pay Barnett.

So the question becomes Barnett plus what for Yannick...I’d be happy with a 3rd.

1st is out of the question.

Probably.

All this speed is like a kid whose dog unexpectedly had puppies.  The parents are going to give a lot of them away.  Of Goodwin/Watkins/Hightower, it would be very unlikely that more than 2 make it, could be only 1.

Id give them barnett plus that extra 5th we picked up

I’m sure you think the Eagles will go 16-0.

Even though Prince Tega was drafted well after Driscoll I see him as the better prospect. Prince kinda flops his hands out there where they can be used to turn him. Too often he flops rather than punches. Hands are too low, also, starting down at the bottom of the numbers, should be top of the numbers. When they're low the defender can knock your arm down and just blow by that shoulder. Prince does that all the time. To me, that's bad coaching. He should be a little lower in his set with the knuckles almost to pad level. Take a look. He's the LT. His hands are at his waist. He's also got his weight back on his heels. On this play he still made the block but really made it hard on himself. It was his athleticism that saved him but that won't be enough at the next level. Fortunately, he'll get good coaching. The best.

If I’m the Jags, I’m not interested in Barnett at all.

Strawman and a pisspoor one at that

I'd give up a second next year plus Barnett.

The issue there is it doesn't help you at DE with BG getting on.

I think Schwartz has tweaked his scheme in response to the changes in the league, more quick hitting routes don't give DEs time to get to the QB.

So the emphasis is now on one gap DTs who can blow up the pocket and disrupt the short passing game, not the wide 9 rushing the QB.

The DEs do more containment and "trash collection" when the QB scrambles out of pocket pressure.

Before the draft I wanted us to get a DT with pass rushing ability.  There were a handful in the draft who had that capability.  I do think the League is going towards DTs who can pressure the QB more often up the middle than what we've seen up to this point.  We might see an equal or even more of an emphasis on pass rushing DTs since they have the shortest most direct route to the QB, than the stud pass rushing DE.  Quality DEs will always be valuable, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a slow shift in DL philosophy start to happen.

The prime prospects are always Juniors and RS sophomores.

This time last year, so many of the 1st and 2nd round picks from this draft had not even shown the world what they can do yet.

I think PTW has a better chance of being the future LT. Did I hear correctly that he has some injury concerns? Perhaps he gets red-shirted. Driscoll is a guy who can come in and be a backup at 4 positions right away and perhaps be a future starter at guard. He’s a Todd Herremans. Eagles love those players and develop them very well.

Apparently so yeah. I think his stock fell due to the pre draft process this year.

Agree i think we are ahead of the curve there

DT is a real strength for us now. Hopefully it can keep the backers clean

Other than Okudah/Young, this was not a very good EDGE/CB class and we smartfully didn't try to force it.
At first glance, that might be the case again in 2021 but there's lots of time for that to change. We have developmental EDGEs on the roster, but not CBs.

I wouldn’t be.  But we can’t afford to have both Barnett and Yannick on the roster in 2021.  That’s not an option.

Seems way too early to call that. On paper top of the DE class looks fine. Micah Parsons, Greg Rosseau, Quincy Roche, carlos basham jr, Xavier Thomas, Aidan Hutchinson, and my favorite Big Kat Bryant.

Then you let Barnett go after this year...

Of all of our offseason moves, by far, my favorite, is the signing of Javon Hargrave. Hopefully two years from now it’s the Reagor selection.

What they probably saw in Hurts was a combination of attributes:

1) Great athleticism, doesn't have the jets of Jackson, but he's an explosive runner at 225 lbs, as a RB might have been a top 100 pick. And probably would have been an excellent receiver at RB, as we see with Ward, ex-QBs often have an edge b/c they're used to handling the ball and know routes.

2) Great intangibles, you don't start at Alabama and Oklahoma without them, obviously he won't be intimidated by the NFL

3) Intelligence and the basic skill package, good enough arm, someone you hope to coach up. Not Russell Wilson, but similar in that he went to a major program as a graduate and started and won immediately in a different scheme.

I’ve only watched Hurts a little bit during the televised college playoff matchups over the past few years, but I was impressed at his progress as a QB.  The first time I saw him with Alabama he was a running QB but had limited ability to throw the ball effectively.  The second time I saw him was when he replaced Tua; I thought for sure they were toast in that game based on what I saw the first time.  To my surprise, he came in, rallied the team to a big win — and threw the ball quite well I thought

Last season with Oklahoma I saw him in a couple of games.  Say what you will; Lincoln Riley got comparable production out of Hurts that he got from Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield.  Of course Hurts was never projected to be a #1 overall pick like those guys, but he performed better with the Sooners than I expected.  I think it says a lot for his makeup and coachability
