There aren’t a dozen people in the war room.  Sorry, I just don’t buy a lot of McLane’s stuff.  Are you a journalist?  Have I personally insulted you?   I am a historian by training although not my profession, and I would say the same about historians.

Peak meteor time.  I say goodnight.

There for sure are.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Jordan Howard, Jay Ajayi, Blount.... he seems to fit what someone does.

He'd fit what this team needs. For a late round pick I'd do it.

Yep.  He should be cheap.  Also should be cheap to extend if we wanted.

If we don't add a RB in the draft I'd give up a fifth round 2021 pick. Fourth if they took Alshon too.

Per Andrew Brandt, writing about his time consulting with the Eagles (2014 story)...

"Many teams arrange the war room similarly; when I consulted with the Eagles, they used the same setup as the Packers. The general manager sits at either the head of a conference table or directly in front of the board, flanked by his most trusted personnel assistant and the head coach. Further down are personnel directors working the phones, each assigned a team based on relationships. Close at hand are 1) the cap/contract person (my former role), ready to advise with numbers on all players, 2) a research/statistician evaluating proposed trades through various proprietary charts and analytics, and 3) team doctors and trainers ready with physical grades. There’s an open line to a staff member in New York who fills out and hands in the card for each selection. Finally, owners and their friends—or, in the case of the Packers, members of the Executive Committee—circle in occasionally, although most exit stage right soon after the top pick is made.”

I think it’s perfectly plausible that he talked to nearly a dozen sources since he’s also talking about a three-year period.

Will they be wearing masks?

We could use a couple fights around here to grease the tracks for draft night.  Let’s be serious; sober pleasantries during the new board’s honeymoon are no way to go through a draft.  😂

Your avatar sucks. Combat waiver?

Meh.  Dillard has not shown anything so far to say he’s a "miss”.

Jury is still out on JJAW, he actually made some plays late in the season.

And Jones has been hampered by injuries, will be interesting to see if he has a "breakout year” this year, hopefully injury free.

While I agree that the jury is still out on him. He's one of the few draft picks (and I'm no college expert) that when I saw his "highlight" film on draft night I was like wtf? He look slow, lumbering, and uncomfortable. I hope he pans out but just the fact that during one of our worst times finding someone to play w.r. he couldn't get playing time against the nova care garbage cans that's very concerning.

I'd give him a shot to play the Blount role

Yeah I wasn’t too happy either when he was picked, especially since Metcalf was still available:   But I don’t think he’s done yet.  If we don’t see dramatic improvement by mid season,  then yeah, I guess it’s time to start questioning whether he will make it in this league.

The report we’re discussing has this in it...

"They certainly weren’t the only ones. Interviews with almost a dozen Eagles employees involved with the draft, both past and present, paint a similar picture of the team’s methods.”

So at least in this case there is more than one source, and significantly more at that.

And, no, I don’t think McLane and many other beat writers who get crapped on in here are as bad or lack journalistic integrity in search of clicks as many of you do. I find it insulting, to be honest. Except for ESP. He’s terrible.

Outstanding article... I've always valued McLane for his reporting.  That's an incredible snapshot into the Eagles draft process.  It's pretty damning in several respects.

I'd say this article places a lot of blame for the recent failures on the draft process used, the decision making, and not following the scouting information.  It shows that maybe the scouting in some of these instances was correct, the prospect analysis was correct, but the draft forecasting, maneuvering and pick execution was completely botched.  If they had just stayed "true to the board" in some of these instances, they would have been better off... similarly, there were opportunities that they lost by not being aggressive enough.

The only con that gave me pause was that Fournette needs 20 carries to be productive. I honestly don’t watch enough JAX games to evaluate that argument and have assumed he has been consistent in short yard/against stacked fronts because how else do get 1000+ yards through that offense.

Otherwise, injury risk: he was healthy last year; money: $4M isn’t going to break the bank; trade compensation: well, if we miss out on the next Kelce pick because we gave up a 6th... maybe we should have taken him in the 5th or traded back for more picks - tough arguing against the crapshoot, when it works.

I'm so glad that the EMB survived.

Interesting take.  Jefferson has a very similar breakdown, but half the board would flip if the Eagles took him there.

Jefferson doesn't have the outside profile that Jeudy does. I do agree that theirs floors are both high.

Agree 100%. I wouldn't be disgusted with a Jefferson pick. He's safe, but I'd prefer to look at other options rather than taking him at 21.

RE: McLane Article.

Overall, while I appreciate that McLane is an actual journalist and does the work, I don't like how he doesn't source enough people.

If you look at his articles, they often come in with a very clear point of view. The Eagles in the past 4 drafts have successfully traded up from 13 to 2,  traded up for Goedert/Dillard right in front of teams that would take them, conducted a great trade-down with the Ravens at 32, got Maddox in RD4 who everyone loved (tape + analytics).

Have there been misses? Of course. At the same time, you can't say "this is bad process because of misses" when the same process has also given hits and there's no background on those hits.

You and me both. He's Blount with a lot more talent and potential I think. Of course there are other issues he comes with.

Yeah baby!!!!

F Roseman!

F Lurie!

New eagles EMB all the way!

That's fair.  The plan to land Wentz was brilliant.  If Dillard pans out the way we hope, that move was terrific as well.  Goedert trade up also great.  Have to give credit where it is due...

They have missed on several players and several opportunities, though.  Lately, the drafting has not been good enough.  I think the article is fair in demonstrating that the decision making has fallen short a few too many times, and perhaps the scouting needs to be trusted more when final decisions are made.

My gut tells me we’ll be moving up in round 1 or 2 for a WR.

Fournette missed a chunk of time in '18 and some in '17 for injuries... wonder what his dedication to conditioning looks like.  Enough to like otherwise.  Jumped a whole yard in YPC between 18-19 with 4.3 and 7th best receiving average per game last year among RBs.  They gave him 17 touches per game last year-- frustrating as a fantasy owner because he had more in his tank.  Plenty of overthrows from Minshew too.  Dude can ball but at what cost?

A couple of notes on the "Mock Draft Machine" results changes - probably means nothing but wondering if anyone else has this... Jeudy is now available at 21 one out of every 3 times, and Tee Higgins is available at 53 literally 100% of the time.  I'd be thrilled with Jeudy or Jefferson at 21 and Higgins, Shenault or Hamler at 53.

I would agree. A 2nd round WR should be a strong contributor, if not a starter by the middle of their 2nd season.

Lol

Rd two seems more likely to me. I think we stay at 21
