How many rookie QBs come in and win games?

There are maybe a half dozen I might trust against a good defense and they are expensive - typically first rounders

I think this is about more than one year.  They have Nate Sudfeld for this year, if they need him.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Carson was 7-9 after missing some of TC with a wrist fx his rookie year

So, we spent a second on Sudfeld's backup? I exaggerate, a bit.

Definitely feel this is the most athletic and versatile talent the Eagles have drafted in a while. That doesn’t mean it will work, but it does give them some options. I don’t think Hurts is a bad football player, but I don’t think the pick says the Eagles are in win now mode.

I think those 3 are the ones who make the team. I think Sanders and Warren are the most likely. Because I like Warren more than Holyfield. I think Scott has the inside track after his performance last year, but if hes like sproles, Killins is like sproles with a jet pack so I think he has a chance. Mostly, I think Killins would likely only pass Scott if he kills it on returns. But maybe Scott makes it and Killins makes the team as a return specialist and we carry 4.

Sproles was between 190 and 200  Scott is 203. Killens is 160.   He is not going to ride the butt of Brooks or Seumalo and then squirt through for four or five yards inside the twenty.  He is a boom or bust guy.  Hit the whole and escape until the next player hits him.  Get hit in the hole and go down.   Scott gives you the possibility of yards after contact like Sproles   Who was that darling of OTAs we had back about ten years ago?  Booker, I think.  Looked like he could run away from anybody until the pads went on and then anybody touched him, he went down.   Could make it as a gadget but I would rather see a free agent signing if we carry four, I suspect.

That said, I hope there is a PS because even our fourth string QB is better than Kessler and I would love to see Marcus Green and Killins against scrubs.  That’s serious speed

Scott is pretty well proven at this point. And if Killins is good enough to beat him out then that means Killins is looking evey bit as amazing as his youtube highlights.

That seems like a bold statement.  I've got some high hopes for Scott, but has he really proven himself yet?  I wouldn't mind bringing in a cheap vet that knows how to pass protect and get the necessary 3 yards.

I'm done.   It's not worth discussing any more.

Sure.  We should have drafted Mims (who wouldn't be ready to contribute this year much anyway) or Gay or Wilson or whomever everyone's favorite prospect was at #53.  But, they didn't.  They drafted a QB.  They have a guy that they liked last year as the #2 this year (at a decent salary) and they are projecting to have Hurts as the backup after that at a reasonable salary.  Will it work out?  Maybe, maybe not.  Will it be worse than when they drafted Sydney Jones and he sat for a full year, then disappointed every year after that?  Hard to say that it's possible to be worse than that, quite frankly.    People want to make this out to be the worst pick in franchise history.  That's just not the case.  Shocking? Yes.  Questionable?  Sure.  But, there have been far worse picks that played out far worse.  We'll see how this one turns out, but right now all this discussion is doing is running around in the same circles over and over again.

I think rookie QBs are more capable of winning games than ever with the NFL adopting read option offenses, and even more recently the RPOs and such from the college game, as well as the air raid offense that Kingsbury has brought from Leach to Arizona.

The days of a QB needing 3 years to master a complicated NFL offense drastically different than anything he ran in college are mostly in the past. Things can be really simplified now. He doesnt need to be a master of reading entire defenses and going through progressions knowing exactly when every player will be in which spot. Now, he just has to be able to read 1 or 2 players on the defense, and know his 1st or 2nd read. Or, with a guy like Hurts, take off and run.

I dont think we would have a very successful season with Hurts as a full time starter as a rookie. But in his situation right now, I bet he can do a lot of damage.

Clowney on a one year deal would make me really happy. Him on that line would give them a ton of talent and depth and it's the one position they didn't really address outside of a 7th round project. It could be the best line since the Buddy days and help the secondary a ton. I get the negatives and would still roll the dice.

It’s pretty clear the Eagles have little interest in a back who can’t catch the ball. Not even sure they care much about pounding the rock with a big back late either.

Eagles should still look to add a veteran presence at RB, LB, and DE. Probably WR too. At this point they won’t be the most talented options but they should at least provide quality, reliable depth. You want to add guys that had a similar impact as Chris Long, Torrey Smith, Corey Graham, and Blount did in 2017.

#2 RB and LB especially. I’m not a fan of the white snake and TJ is a fringe back up. I’m not counting on much from Bradley. I’m keeping my fingers crossed on Taylor taking the WLB spot. But I'm not sure whom pairs with him. I’ll be rooting for the new FA signing Brown.

Youre right about Scott and Sproles with the yards after contact. I dont expect to see much of that from Killins. I think its going to be best if they keep 4 so long as Killins is a great punt and kick returner.

I think Sanders, Warren, Scott, and Hurts will pretty much have all the carries. But Id love to see Killins in the screen game.

He’s still out there and all it would cost is money the Eagles do have. With that being the case with his injuries and undisciplined play is he that much of an improvement?

I like the platoon too. Rest Jackson, and Goodwin comes in even faster. Rest Reagor and Hightower is nearly just as explosive. Rest JJAW and Ques is entering the slot with even more speed.

I don’t see the quickness for the slot in either JJAW or Quez.  I think JJAW is the X with Hightower backing him.  Reagor platoons with DJax and Ward. Same with Goodwin.  Quez is likely a PS player. Thing you want in the slot is sure hands and quickness.  That’s Ward.

In 2 TE sets, we don't need a traditional slot WR. Jackson and Reagor can also play the slot with both TEs or JJAW/Alshon/Hightower.
It's not a problem.

Worth a roll of the dice for me. The upside could be massive. Clowney, BG, Cox and Jackson/Hargave would wear lines out. The 2nd unit wouldn't be bad either.

You mean the document that counted black people as 3/5ths a person, that constitution?

You're going to think that this is a shot at you, but it's really not. For all I know, you might have a PhD in Political Philosophy.

A lot of people in this country are lacking a basic understanding of civics. This topic is too complicated and requires too much explanation to adequately address on a football message board, but I'm going to lay out some basics.

People don't support States Rights because they support racism or slavery. They support States Rights because it encompasses the founding philosophy of this country; the founding philosophy that separates the United States from the rest of the world. Our country was founded with the belief that government is evil. When we give people power over other individuals (which is essentially what government is), the people in power will often times abuse their position. However, we recognized that government is also necessary. We need government to do things for the collective good. So how do we reconcile the fact that government (people with power over other individuals) is a necessary evil? We do that by restricting, or limiting, the power of government. States Rights epitomizes that idea.

The best way to explain it is with a hypothetical thought experiment. Come up with any issue or problem that can exist in life. Now ask yourself this: can this problem/issue be addressed without the help from government? If the answer is yes, then government is restricted from having a role in said issue. Let's say the answer is no. An individual alone can't address said issue. The next question is, can your local government address the issue? If yes, the State and Federal government should have no jurisdiction over that issue. If the local government can't, then it falls under the jurisdiction of the State government. Only problems/issues that the individual, the local government, and the State government can't handle should fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government. On every level, we LIMIT the government's power. We restrict the power, because we recognize that despite being an entity that can do good, government has shown over the history of man that it can, and WILL, be abused.

People like to point to slavery as a way to dismiss States Rights. Ironically, it illustrates why we need it. Slavery showed how people with power over other individuals (government) can abuse their position for horrible purposes. Humans are capable of atrocities. Our Founders recognized this and created a system (from which we greatly strayed) that LIMITS how much power one individual can have over another.

There's obviously a lot more to States Rights than just this, but this is just the basic concept of the theory that unfortunately has been lost on our society. Civics is dead.

So much emotion in here after this draft!  Here's why I'm very optimistic about how this offense will look next year:

1) Eagles legitimately had 0 deep threats for all of 2018, 15 regular season games and the playoff game in 2019.  I'm still blown away on how productive Ertz and Goedert have been operating in minimal space while DBs all cheated up due to lack of speed......not to mention JJAW was literally running into them at times during his routes. Imagine the production and YAC from those 2 (maybe not YAC with Ertz) with safeties having no choice but to respect the deep ball.

2) The year we won the SB was the last time we had a deep threat, and he was extremely mediocre in Torrey Smith.  But he did just enough that defenses had to respect him, and that enabled the offense to run like a well-oiled machine.  We don't really even need these speedsters to be elite, although that would be fantastic.  We just need them to do their job, create separation, and keep DBs honest at all times.  And currently, we have 5 on the roster with that specific skill set (maybe 6 actually if Shelton Gibson is still on the team, but I can't count him).  If even 2 of the 5 (I'm including Desean in this) are able to produce adequately in that role, this offense will be unstoppable.  This will completely change the way defenses will have to defend us.  Carson will be able to survey the field properly, go through his progressions, and get rid of the ball much quicker since the receivers and tight ends will actually have more than 1 inch of separation.

eh... not all slots are quick welker types. Jordan Matthews, Colston...theres big slots. Duvernay... speed slot. Thats Quez. He struggles with press so if youre playing him early he had the best chance for success out of the slot.

No to Clowney. I don't want that scumbag anywhere near the Eagles.

Developmental WR not asked to run much of a route tree at Baylor.  Small college developmental S.  My complaint was missing on A Davis but I can live with that probably better than Sudfeld in a game.

Screw that. I would actually have to boo an eagle. Scumbag. I hope no one picks him up. He already had to lower the price tag on himself. I guess being a cheap shot artist doesn't bring on the money.

JJAW will make his way to the slot eventually, like all disappointing Eagles WR picks.   He's not your stereotypical phone both quicks slot guy, but neither was Jordan Matthews.

JJAW can line up at the X as your "balanced big guy" with Desean in the slot and Reagor out wide, or any combination of Reagor plus one other very fast WR.  But someone else needs to be there at the X full time.

JJAW can't ever be a full time X.  He just moves too poorly.  He's going to be a big bodied, situational #3 WR at best.  To pull that off, he needs to function in the slot.

Yeah, he may be and I don't care about that and people can get over it as well. He could help that defense be unreal and cover some of the weaknesses. Dak can have whatever weapons he wants but if he is running for his life every down it won't matter. The middle of the pocket will be collapsing. Him and BG coming off the edge would be a major issue for offenses and wear out lines. Long term? No way. One year? Roll the dice.

I'd also be fine with them giving a first to Jax if he would sign a long term deal, but I think they want two firsts and some idiot team will probably do it. Add an end either way and this team could be special.
