I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Camp?   Will there be a camp?  This is going to be the weirdest offseason ever.  They are going to want to start games as close as possible to the regular season start time, but will want to wait to start offseason programs like OTAs, TC, and PS until its safe to do so... so, is it possible that they only have a 3 week TC and PS, then jump right to the real games?  (Probably with no fans present)

I have seen nothing that changes the start of Phase iI (pos draft camps) to,virtual or past 5/15. Italy is opening soccer training on 5/18.  I am sure that the NFL can design a relatively safe procedure for position classroom time and training while having a proper degree of social distancing.  The clear suggestion is that the majority of cases are asymptomatic or very mild symptoms, especially amongst those in lower risk categories like world class athletes.  I bet all the owners can afford tests, both for the virus and for the antibodies. I would be shocked if MLB for some spring training and the NFL for post draft camp, June OTAs and July Training camp aren’t planning for this right now.   Bet they go virtual with the press though, just like they did for the draft.  Don’t get me wrong.  It will have a different look but it is doable.  In the long run, my trip on Friday to Walmart with an N95 mask was probably more exposure than players would have in the post draft camps.

IIRC last year it was something like May 8.

Monday works for me.  Seems early as I cannot recall it ever being before May and I have no idea where Auman got his info.

WTF do I care about what some of these losers think one day after the draft. What is their track record of success?   Anyone grading a draft on day one after a draft is just guessing. Real time to measure is three or four years later.  Example: Mel Kippers’ best available players had Eason and Fromm on the list as 1&2 starting at the third round.  How did that evaluation work for him?

I think that’s where speed really makes a difference.

You could take an average to above average generic WR, and their impact on defensive game planning is probably minimal like you said. But if that average to above average WRs calling card is being a deep threat, then suddenly the impact is greater. You just can’t play them like a normal receiver. You must account for that deep threat or risk 6 points.

This is where the league is headed. If you sink and dunk your way up the field, there are simply far more ways for the offense to stall out. That’s what defensive coordinators want these days, because chances are if you’re put in lots of third down situations, they can stop you. Chances are if you run 12 plays, you’ll get a holding penalty or give up a sack.

With team speed and big plays, you’re flipping the field more consistently. You’re more likely to score before a bad play stalls out the drive. And even if you give up a holding penalty or loss of yardage on an early down, you still have the explosiveness to convert a third and long.

In this way, the sum of the parts of multiple deep threats stresses a defense and dictates how a defense plays them in a way that the old ball control styles simply do not. Add in the PI and QB hit penalties that are called today, and there’s even more opportunities for big plays when you’re pushing the ball down the field.

Andy always threw to Pinkston early in the game to keep the defenses honest.  Pinkston was a below average WR, but Andy leveraged his speed to facilitate the rest of the offense.

You want mediocre RB play or to be in a situation like 2018 when you’re stuck in a bad RB situation.

Again your attempts to change people’s arguments and reduce them to absurdity to make yourself feel justified are failing you.

neither. I want young promising backs with plenty of tread left as we see in the NFL year in year out. I’ll let guys like you be the cheerleaders for deals like demarco Murray.

Labor day is Monday, September 7, the latest it could be.  So the opening weekend would revolve around September 13.

Three preseason games, without fans, on the weekends of August 23, August 30, and September 6.

If the states open up by July 15, then you could have a month of modified OTAs/TC followed by the three weeks of PS games.

Listen, Nate Davis gave the Eagles a D-.  If you can't take his opinion to the bank and make a deposit, then there's nothing that anyone can say to you.

Based on what I've read/heard, I think Howie/Weil had divided WRs into outside/speed guys and route runners.  Meaning that Ruggs and Reagor were on a different list from Jeudy, Lamb, and Jefferson.

It's not ground breaking.  The league has bucketed CBs into those that can play outside and those that can't.

Well if my intent was to change people’s arguments I sure as hell wouldn’t try and learn from a guy like you because that is exactly what you’re doing and you’re not very good at it.

Where did I say I wanted a Demarco Murray level signing? I just want them to bring in a cheap proven vet to at least compete with a bunch of rookie UDFAs. Just like they did with Blount who happened to help win the Eagles a Super Bowl.

Early 53-man (it's still 53, right?).  This is not a prediction, but a framework for discussion.  Basically made room for the 10 draft picks.  There obviously will be post-draft FA signings.

Factory Parts (3)  Wentz, Hurts, Sudfeld
RB (4)  Sanders, Scott, Warren, Killins
WR  (6)  Jackson, Reagor, JJAW, Ward, Goodwin, Hightower or Watkins (other on PS) (Jeffery on PUP)
TE (3)  Ertz, Goedert, Perkins
OL (9)  Dillard, Seumalo, Kelce, Brooks, Johnson, Pryor, Mailata, Driscoll, Herbig (Wanagho on IR with mystery injury)
25

DE (5)  Graham, Barnett, Sweat, Avery, Miller (Hall on PUP, Toohill on PS)
DT (5)  Cox, Hargrave, Jackson, Ridgeway, Hector
LB (5)  Gerry, Brown, Edwards, Taylor, Bradley
CB (6)  Slay, Maddox, Jones, Robey-Coleman, LeBlanc, Douglas
S (4) McLeod, Mills, Parks, Wallace
25

ST (3) Elliott, Johnston, Lovato

Decent kill of time. You’ll see a speedy perimeter guy who has the ability to high point the ball. Not much I. The way of route variety. I would have love to see more slants just to get a feel for his ability to quickly separate, but they apparently rarely run them as Southern Miss.

On the pod, Solak said he was Shelton Gibson, noting that he struggled vs contact and had issue tracking. I’m sure he watched a lot more than I have, but I thought he tracked it well. His ball skills were much better than Gibson’s.

Ostman is one guy I'm curious about since he was making some noise before he got hurt. I'd still like to see them bring back Trey at the league minimum as the 3rd TE. I think you are right that they keep 5 DT as they should with the talent there. LB looks really bad...

Your list looks pretty good though.

It's important to maintain perspective on this recent speed kick, which I have demanded for years.

Reagor was a real investment in it.

Goodwin/Watkins/Hightower, combined, cost them 41.2 draft points...that's a late 4th round pick.  Goodwin is 29 and had less than 200 yards in 2019 and less than 400 in 2018.  Watkins and Hightower have hand, route-running, and competition issues.

Do I think it was a really slick move getting 3 blazing fast lottery tickets out of such minimal draft capital?  Absolutely.  But if all 3 fail, this better not be an opportunity for the pendulum to swing back to "see, we went hard after speed and that got us nowhere."  The offense isn't stacked and isn't blazing fast until they actually coach these guys up, which may be an uphill battle.

Burton signed with the Colts.

I see RB as the position most likely to change.

I didn't see that. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm curious if they bring in another vet when the comp picks are done. Not just at RB but DE, LB, and maybe secondary.

Also, I don't believe Doug would want to materially change the identity of the offense.  They merely understand, as we all do, that they need some speed on the outside to make their core concepts work.  If we see him use the newfound speed to challenge defenses in a different way, it would be a enhancement to, not a replacement of his offensive scheme.

A different angle. Didn’t realize the Buffs were down 35 points at the time. I’m sure the Eagles took note of that.

I would be interesting if we could superimpose this onto the big plays we gave up last season to see if he could have saved a TD.

Well that I agree with.  Nothing pisses me off more than an average starting WR (Jordan Matthews, Reggie Brown).

Not every WR needs to be Julio Jones.  But it's essential that every starting pass catcher in the offense be better than average.  Otherwise you are attaching your attack to an anchor.

And that they all come from Lake Wobegon.

Completely whacko passing thought: Hurts’ game reminds me of McNabb’s.
