Maybe we are looking to go positionless at WR and have them all move around. I doubt that’s in the cards for 2020 though since we won’t have a normal offseason. Until that day comes, I’m going to assume we want speed at Z, a vertical slot, and a big, physical X.

I see some people projecting Hightower and Reagor there, but based on our history and the traditional X, neither would fall in line. I also don’t think it would be using them at their best.

The X typically is fixed to the LOS. They can not go in motion to free them up from press. Whether it’s quickness (Reagor certainly has that) or physicality, they will almost always have a CB directly over them to beat.

The Z is at the end of the formation and have the right end typically covering up the tackle so they can be off the LOS or in motion. Obviously that gives them a free release and negates press coverage. You want your fastest guy there unless they’re great at beating press.

The slot goes without saying.

So looking at Hightower, I don’t think he has the quickness and certainly not the physicality to beat NFL corners head up on him. Watkins doesn’t. Reagor certainly could become that guy, but why bother giving teams the opportunity to disrupt his speed?

I appreciate the alphabetical analyses of our WRs.  However, how often do we line up in a traditional formation?  We are in 12 personnel at least half the time.  Bunch sets.  Five wide.  Etc.

I see Doug putting speed in the middle of the field as much as outside the numbers.  I believe on both of Jackson's TDs in week 1, he was not the outside-most receiver.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Do we anticipate any action today after 4:00 ?

I’d take Vinny back or Zeke on a cheap deal. Another outside CB like Prince which I think would be first on my list. A #2 RB like Hyde would be fine. I’d like another linebacker but not seeing much there. Preston brown possibly.

The lack of off-season is definitely going to be a problem, but I really think that the Eagles are looking to abandon the X WR. I think that better fits Wentz's skillset. He seems to have no problem throwing guys open or into tight windows, but only between the hashes. On the perimeter of the defense, that's just not Wentz's game. I think that was the main problem with the lack of chemistry between him and Alshon.

We traded for Tate so that he could ride the bench...

Yet we have a bunch of defenders of drafting a backup to the backup QB with our #53 pick. When did our front office earn this much respect?

That is correct.

Can anyone here help me out? I'm trying to find article/video that really goes in depth and explains the schematic advantages of deploying a "Taysum Hill package." I want to dive into the stress points it creates for defenses. I've tried looking for various 2 QB philosophy articles, but everything I found was basically superficial.

The eye in the sky doesn't lie.

Is that Schwartz’s job? Or is is it more the position coach?

Did Doug Pederson develop Seumalo or Goedert? Of course not. His job is to scheme with what he has and to put them in the best position to succeed in conjunction with the rest of the unit.

Well, it’s believed that Schwartz has a big say and who is drafted/acquired. While it is in the position Coaches job description everything falls back on the top dog.
Have we ever had a young DB improve since he’s been here?

The Rams do this. The Chiefs move their guys around a ton. WE move our guys around a ton.
Both teams have at least one vertical guy that moves the safety. We didn't have that, so being creative was a lot harder.

The Rams run a lot of bunch, right sets. Every WR in that case can basically be a slot or Z type.

I’m sure he has a big say, but he doesn’t pick all the players.

Your same rants are getting annoying, bashing "the defenders” and the front office. No doubt opinions will always vary but you can’t go back in time and change the Hurts pick. He is an Eagle now. Accept it. Other people are on here brainstorming on ways he could be used and also instilling information in other posters while having legit convos.....and they are still against the pick just like you. Crying and moaning ain’t gonna send Hurts or Howie out the building, move on......

Listening to Davion Taylor and he is a very impressive kid. If anyone fits the bill of ''can he run, is he healthy, does he love to play the game,'' it's him. He was asked why he stuck with football in high school even though he couldn't play on game days, and he said it was because he just loves football that much. Character for days with this kid, very well spoken. Said he doesn't care what number he gets, he's just happy to be an Eagle and get a chance to playoff in the NFL.

We’re going to have a WR on the LOS almost every play so someone has to do it.

But will there be a CB in press across from him every play?

I get it.  Route concepts are based on a X/Y/Z foundation.  But with all the variations we see, I am not sure they are exclusive roles to which a player is confined.

😂Interesting way of saying Schefter was an idiot.

Noted Blog reader.

The X is on the LOS.  The Z is on or off it depending on the rest of the formation.

Aside from that, there are trends, but be as creative as you want or pigeon hole them as much as you want.

Extremely impressive. My favorite player out of this draft haul.

Speaking of where these receivers can line up, Howie brought up that they see Hightower as a guy who can play both inside and outside.
