Natalie - "Just Win, Baby"

It's a team game, think Peters is giving back his ring b/c he was sidelined by injury.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I am real hopeful that Doug learns from what he had to do at the end of the season with the offense. I said during the season last year that the Eagles were relying too much on timing throws.  It resulted in slow starts for the offense. It allowed the press to affect too many plays.  I think the best example of this was a play where Goedert got jammed by a linebacker and Wentz threw to a spot where Goedert was still yards from hitting.

When the Eagles were down to JJAW, Ward and Davis, this became abundantly clear.  The hop miss to JJAW.  The a yard to far by Ward.   Neither WR nor QB were on the same page on timing because they hadn’t played together enough.

What did the Eagles do?  They moved Carson and allowed him to throw to the WRs rather than the spot.  Carson is much better at that. Then Doug cans Groh and Walch.  He brings in Scangarello, who is known for motion in the backfield. Press takes over the QB motion from Duce.  That is also going to help with giving Carson time to throw.  The motion is going to help read the defenses and may slow down the rush some.  Now I am not against timing routes but the over reliance on them early last year was evident and made it easier to defense the Eagles. Also, if the off-season and preseason practices are affected, they are hard to practice.

Check the WIP podcasts, its from Howie himself, in an interview with Reese.

Unfortunately, nothing WIP related is available to me here in the UK...WIP block any UK/EU streams of any kind.

At least it explains why I din't know about the Atlanta offer...

But thanks anyway...

thats exactly your job howie

You are ignoring the temporal issue. Not to pick on you more than anyone else, but we fans have very short attention spans. We want gratification now. Will Hurts start immediately? Obviously not. But in the next four years will we need a competent QB other than Wentz? Almost certainly. That's the trade-off that Howie is considering and you are not.

Do we think he actually believes that?

I got a notification about this saying he hopes Carson plays to his 40s. I have no sympathy for Howie and the Eagles. They opened up this can of worms by drafting the backup QB in the 2nd round. We just got over the Foles vs Wentz drama. Plus we still have to deal with Alshon's drama

I thought I had already read on these very pages that the Atlanta offer request was 21 & 53...I hadn't read that that had been debunked...

If that's the case, and it was 21 plus a 2021 1st for #16, then that's way too much to move up 5 spaces...basing it on the "values" (and yes I know these picks values are very hit and miss at best) a 2020 #21 & #53 should easily be sufficient to move up to #16...

Oh, and I was a member of the Eagles board for years...I simply didn't bring my post count over...so welcome to the blog yourself, and your Master's Degree in sarcasm...

Atlanta wasn’t moving for value.  They targeted a CB. They had to think, with the loss of Jones that so was Dallas.  The only way Atlanta was going to move was an offer too good to refuse.

You seem new to the Blog and I think that was the point of the comment. Most folks that changed their screen names told us so.  That has been a Blog habit since Joe changed to HE.

Oh god! Poor us! Such drama! Such suffering!

Just because you repeat this over and over again, does not make it true.  I had Justin Jefferson higher, personally, but they are different styles.  So, if you wanted a player of Reagor's style, he was the only option left.

Sports radio takes, everyone

I want to win another Super Bowl... I don't care who the QB is.  It could even be greend at QB.  I'd still be happy.   It would suck for Wentz if they win another Super Bowl with him on the sidelines... but in 2018, I was rooting for a SUPER BOWL WIN with Foles... part 2, not to lose it.  In 2019, I wanted to see Josh McCown become Earl Morrall and get the Eagles to the next round, without the starter.  Anyone who wants something different.... I just can't comprehend.

Natalie's #hottake is just silly.  Sucks for Wentz, is great for everyone else... literally ALL the other players.  It sucked for Peters to be on the sidelines with Vaitai at LT, too.  Sucked for Sproles, Hicks, Maragos... but guess what, that's the nature of the sport.  Every team that wins a Super Bowl does it with some of their players on the IR or just inactive that game due to injury.  Ultimately, no one cares about those guys though... it only becomes 'a story' if its the QB, because the normal gulf between starting QB and backup QB is often so wide that that chasm can't be crossed no matter who the surrounding cast is.  But, Foles is not the only back up QB to do it.  Brady was a backup when he first did it.  Hofstettler too.  Jim Plunkett was the backup TWICE when he won the Super Bowl with the Raiders.  TWICE!    I wonder if any Raiders fans were disappointed in that second Super Bowl when they won again with him at the helm, rather than the starter.

Still can't wrap my head around the Hurts pick.

Can't understand it at all. I get valuing the backup QB position, but he's a project, in the 2nd.

Then Howie talks about only using a 3rd on the LB because they see him as a starter.

Hurts is dynamic, but a bit of a project. This year could basically be a wash for most rookies so you used a 2nd round pick on a guy who might contribute a few plays a game or season unless Wentz goes down in 2021. And Hurts is nowhere near the QB Wentz is or what this offense typically requires.

Are they really going to use him as some wildcat gimmick Hill type and risk getting your backup injured in the process?

Overall I gave the draft a C. I like the moving around and value picks.

I really believe this pick was in the plans all along. One of Wentz or Hurts will be moved in 2 years.

So... you discount the QB making a tight window throw (something that needs to happen in the NFL to get completions) and then use the fact the he made tight window throws to pump up your guy, and discounting 'not your guy'.   Nice work.

Welcome to the blog, you appear to already have a Master's Degree in logical fallacy.

Then you create the false equivalency that Howie has already refuted.  It wasn't about Reagor and Hurts (aka, #21 & #53) or Lamb (#16), instead it sounds more like its #21 and at least next year's first.

Where are you getting 21 and next year’s 1?

Natalie Wastenolf.  She is absolutely useless when it comes to sports talk.  She needs to find another profession.

Well, today's second rounder is tomorrow's first rounder.

It was sarcasm.  Personally, I don't see the need to change your screen name, but sure.  Go for it.

Howie debunked it yesterday with Ike Reese.  He said it wasn't about #53.  He didn't say what exactly the trade offer was, but he made it clear that it wasn't 53 (or wasn't 53 alone) and included 2021 picks.

Yup. Imagine not wanting to win a Super Bowl. That’s also such a slap in the face to every player/coach on the team.

Listen to the Podcast from Ike Reese's interview with Howie, and you interpret what he was saying.  That was my interpretation.

The more I hear this the more that makes sense.  The Falcons had every inch of leverage against the Eagles.  They probably asked for 21, 53 and a 2nd next year or something of the sort.  The Falcons had a great player at a need position fall in to their laps.  If the Eagles wanted to move up they should have done so ahead of the Falcons.

Water under the bridge, I'll say it til I'm blue in the face I hate that Dallas got CeeDee.  Hated seeing smug Jerry Jones smiling on his $250 million yacht (nice of them to tell us the value of his yacht while so many Americans are in dire situations btw).

Reagor will be a good Eagle and that's what matters.

I doubt that. Makes no sense to move either for three years. This is the model Belichek started with Garoppolo. Suspect that was his plan this year with Hurts to back up Stidham. I really think the Eagles may have screwed the Pats with the Hurts pick. Belichek either wanted Herbert and couldn’t get up to get him or Hurt coming to him in the second based on his comment that a QB was in the plan.  I like to think we got a quality back up for at least three years and robbed the Pats in the process. Eases my discomfort with Hurts, the player.

LMAO, **** move from a guy who loves to act tough and run his mouth any chance he gets. Fraud.
