I'm one of those guys who also gets excited by this. Sure, it might seem silly to some people, but that's just the way I am. And I found myself feeling envious yesterday when I checked out the Colts website (they had great war room footage a year ago and I was curious if they would do anything interesting this year) and saw a cool display of all their draft picks uniforms with their new numbers. Dang, I wish the Eagles could do something like that. But historically they're pretty slow in revealing these things, so I won't be holding my breath.

I'm wondering what number Hurts is going to get. It almost has to be a single digit, and the only good options are 2 and 3. McNabb's number is retired and they aren't going to give out Foles'. But 2 looks like Matt Barkley and 3 looks like Mark Sanchez.

I always like to see who is wearing my son’s number. That is currently Nate Herbig, which is a bit funny, given his size because my son played RG and RT at 162 in HS.  He also was a DE.

I had to do a lie detector test for a promotion when I was 21 in college.  The tester did a test question where I was required to think of a number between 30 and 40.  I picked my number. I was supposed to answer no to every number so he could identify as a baseline a lie.  I picked my number.  He proceeded through the numbers.  There was a RB for the Oilers that I detested.   Apparently I didn’t react much with my number but my body reacted off the charts to that RB’s number.  The tester then announced the number I was thinking of.  I said no.  He got animated and insisted that was the number.  I said no.  Now I was still hooked up to the lie detector when I said those two noes and obviously I was telling the truth so he concluded the test right then as inconclusive.  The company accepted that some people couldn’t be tested with a polygraph so I got the promotion. They never got to the drug questions which was good because on the way to the test, I had stopped by a friend’s house and bought a lid.  I could see where 5 would affect results today because of McNabb puking away the Super Bowl.

Any player numbers impact you that way?

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Flash forward to the first MNF game of the season.

Carson is regularly throwing down field to Jackson and Reagor.  Ertz and Goedert are feeding on social-distancing-like coverage over the middle.  Sanders is tearing it up behind one of the best lines in football.  And we've just gone up by 20 after a pick-six by Slay.

What will we get?  A five minute conversation about the Hurts pick.

That would totally suck.

Having to wait an extra day for our season to open on MNF?? BOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hey he could run.... but he is just what we call not fast lol

Every time I see him run, I like to comment that if you blink, you’ll miss him lol.

I didn’t mean that to be taken literally, hes obviously thrown some here and there and done a nice job with it.  But generally speaking, that’s a throw this offense hasn’t even utilized.  Hard to call it his greatest strength.

Well, his deep threats have been injured the last 2 years. This offense is partly predicated on that deep ball threat, as I know you know, but it explains the focus on speed so that doesn't happen again. It was his one of his greatest strengths, but now he'll have to dust it off again and make sure it still feels natural.

That's my whole point, we are still going to be investing in a vet backup for this year, probably next year, and possibly after.

Great, we possibly beat Seattle with him last year, with a bunch of scrub WRs?

I mean, we're going to crazy lengths to say that backup QBs often win SBs enough to invest like this to justify this pick.

1- I doubt it, I think hurts is your backup.

2- we weren’t so far off from winning that game anyway, so it’s not crazy to think a web puts us over the top.

3- I don’t think anyway is saying that. I’m not at least. 99% of the time if your first an goes down your goose is cooked as far as Super Bowls go. That’s not the value of a backup qb to me. The value is when you have a six game stretch while your guy has a high ankle or a rib or something like that. Lose those six games your season is over. Win them and you have a first round bye. Win 4-5 and you preserve your playoff spot. That’s where the value in a backup is, to me.  Carson does a rib week 12, back for playoffs  who gets us to the playoffs with decent seeding.  If hurts is that guy, I’m ok with a second rounder going to that. Especially if he flashes and gets that pick back down the line.

They got him weapons? They acquired a bunch of unproven raw rookie WRs and traded for an oft injured journeymen WR.

And spent a 1st round draft choice on a guy or did we forget?

When you see it this way it is pretty depressing

Although smith wasn’t cut he was traded (didn’t make the list just saw it on fb)

Not a great list but it's portrayed as negatively as possible. In 2017 Alshon, Agholor and Smith played pretty well.

Baldinger was a pro football player. I’m sure he knows a hell of a lot more than you.  LOL.  Pederson was a sub standard QB.  Do you think he doesn’t know anything either?

If you really want me to explain it to you I will , but I'm going to have to start charging a fee sooner or later .

So the legs are the only part that matters?  Obviously not.  Your being a fanboy

What's "fanboy" because I'm sure you have a whole NEW set of predetermined labels all ready to go.

Do you own one of these?

Eagles really need to add a veteran number 2 RB. Lots of options out there who could fill the role on a cheap one year deal. Who ya got.

Devonta Freeman, Carlos Hyde, LeSean McCoy, Lamar Miller, Frank Gore.

Former Eagle RB

Frank Gore

How much longer will this guy play?

Quote from Howie at the end.  Last line mentions future picks, or more exactly adds to the confusion.

I think he cleared up the confusion. Atlanta didnt want to trade down. Makes perfect sense since they took a corner at 16 and teams picking 17 and 19 needed a corner.

I’m not a Lamb fan anyway, so I don’t mind.

Ah, 2011.  The draft that got AR fired.  I don’t know if Howie or AR were responsible for it, but the resulting roster they had in 2012 is why AR got fired.

To be an effective deep threat and avoid a decline? Yeah, pretty much.

You said he’s washed up. The last time he stepped on a football field he was dominant. A torso injury shouldn’t change that. It’s about his legs and speed.

Not that it matters, but I always look forward to seeing the new guys’ numbers. I’d be surprised if he was anything other than 18. It’s the best available WR number and he wore it in college.

I agree, a number is their identity and howe we pretty much see them.  There are good numbers, bad numbers and of course their numbers could change after final cuts.  As it's been discussed there aren't a lot of numbers left for our new WR.

Reagor- 18 his old college number

Hurts- 2 his Bama number

Taylor- 48 good undersized linebacker number since 40s are allowed

Wallace- 42 (I think Clement comes back and 30 is his) I love 42 as a safety number

Driscoll- 70 he's not getting his college number 71

Hightower- 13 really all that's left until we trim some WR

Bradley- 46 another modern LB number, considered 52 but that's left for Toohill

Watkins- 82 I like this number on WR but if he sticks he will go back to the teens

Prince- 72 great LT number

Toohill- 52 gets his college number LB/DE tweeners are good in the 50s

It's reasonable to think that DeSean will be a little slower, but not washed in one year. Speed threats tend to hang around (see Ted Ginn)

70 is retired

And I like LBs in the 50s (54 and 56 are available)

I wonder the tune people would be singing if Wentz didn't get his head slammed into the ground illegally and concussed. He was playing great with scrubs. How far could they have gone? They had a shot in that last game against Hawks until the dirty play. If they won then they would have played 49ers in the divisional round I think. Packers weren't that good

Reagor will be the first player in the first two rounds since Chip left that would reasonably be expected, at the time of the draft, to start week 1.

Carson - backup to Sleeves
Barnett - rotational DE
Jones - red shirt
Goedert - #2 TE
Dillard - backup
Sanders - RBBC

That’s interesting.  I guess they are expecting him to start (since Alston is most likely out) at X over JJAW?  Ward in the slot and DJax at Z?

Probably too soon to tell, tbh.

I’m a Wentz fan, but think this "poor Wentz” taLk is off base. When we discuss his lack of weapons, that’s not limited to WR. Since his first offseason entrenched as starter, the team has made enough reasonable moves to surround him with talent that lets me know it’s a priority. Sign Alshon (regarded as a true #1 WR at the time), sign Torrey Smith. Move NA inside which was an upgrade to the slot. Had a top 5 TE already in place. Ajayi and Blount were acquired.

After the SB win, with Alshon extended, replace Smith with Wallace. A reasonable replacement. Invest a high draft pick on another TE. No one expected Jeffery to start his decline then, and for NA to regress after such a good year. Golden Tate was acquired.

Last year, a lot of people thought going in WR was a strength with Alshon, DeSean and NA entrenched. A ton of $$ was spent at the position. Along with the best TE situation in the league and high drafts pick at receiver and RB.

The moves didn’t all work out, TE they got 100%  right. RB all look to have been good moves. WR the one highly questionable move was guaranteeing Alshon’s contract last year. Still, getting Wentz weapons has clearly been a priority. More so than for McNabb imho. Particularly when factoring in the limited draft capital available due to the trade up to get him.

We probably make the bowl if we get past Sea imo, I don't know if we could keep up with KC though
