yeah 4.43 is still fast. But re-watching his college highlights theres some plays where he catches the ball and clearly hits another gear accelerating away from guys. It definitely looks faster to me, and I do believe I remember reading about a low 4.3 at some point for him. Maybe he did lose some of that with the additional combine weight. Guess we will see whenever he gets on the field.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

6’1” 190 with low 4.4 speed, a 38 inch vert, and good run after catch ability is a heck of a package, especially for a 6th round pick with no glaring injuries or off field issues.

About the only time he showed good ball skills was that over the wrong shoulder catch vs the Giants.

It was a bad rookie year, no getting around it. Let’s see what happens this year. If he doesn’t make a big jump, he’s gone.

Yeah.

I don’t generally like to be a negative guy, but I really disliked the pick when it was made and the rookie year seemed to validate my concerns.

I’m willing to give him a year to show improvement, but he needs to take a big step. We drafted him to make the tough catches. Let’s see him do that a few times.

How does making the same incorrect point over and over elevate a conversation?

I was as big a JJAW fan as there was last year and even I said at the time of the pick that I didnt want that in round 2. I spent most of my time looking at faster WRs and had other guys ranked ahead of him for our particular needs.

He was unbelievably bad and Im excited enough about the speed we added that Im totally ready to move on already. Id prefer to see Goodwin and Hightower make it. If JJAW beats out Quez as like WR6 fine but Id rather try to develop Quez.

Most of the improvement year to year is the guys already on the roster, not the draft.

Maybe a 1st rd pick starts at some point, maybe a couple other guys break into a rotation.

The guys on the roster:

Sudfeld - don't want to use Hurts as the backup QB until at least the end of the season if not until 2021-22 I want Hurts to push Sudfeld off the team.  Show us you can contribute.  We know what Sudfeld is.

Scott - build on last year's finish Agree.  Is his next step RB2 or is it Darren Sproles light.  With Clement back I really like this rotation.  I love Clement in a role.

Ward - build on last year's finish His next step is making sure the slot is his.  I have a feeling his confidence was built up and he knows he belongs (some argue he is JAG, I think he is a perfect slot WR.  Become our Cole Beasley.

JJAW - find your college mojo and be the big possession WR who is a red zone monster RZ is his best chance to shine.  I think he needs to A. shed the baby fat and develop some lean muscle and B. come in with confidence/MOJO as you said.

Goedert - step out of Ertz's shadow and be an elite all around TE I think he is there, this is a matter of the offense.  Goedert can only do so much behind ZE.  Cut down on the mistakes is his big hurdle.  No fumbles, no drops.  Show us that Ertz can be expendable come 2021.

Mailata - take that next step Is his next step the 3rd swing tackle or just being active?

Dillard - get stronger and play like a 1st rd pick Yup, build that base, become an anchor.  Don't get pushed around.  Be elite in pass pro, and the best he can as a run blocker.

Opeta, Pryor  - win a job, not get one by default I've had high hopes for Pryor since his rookie year.  Might be because he was the media darling but he has shown he can play.  Can he replace Brooks when the time comes?  Don't know what to think of Opeta.  Trusting the Eagles on this.  They see something.  Show us.

Sweat - turn that athleticism into production I want 8-10 sacks.

Barnett - go from being a starter to a star Add in stay healthy for 16 games here.  I see Barnett becoming an elite run stopper maxing out at 7-8 sacks.

Avery - become that threat from the Elephant position I'd like him to be DE4 rather than Elephant.  Let's keep grooming Ostman for Elephant.  The 4th rounder we traded needs to equate in a big role.

Rush, Ridgeway - go from the end of the roster to pushing for a big role and a new contract I'll add Bruce Hector.  We need that 4th and 5th DT to make step up so when Cox is fading we can plug them in and be OK.

Riley - take the starting job Not sure I see him as a starter.  Become our next Chris Maragos/package LB.  A younger, faster KGH would be nice.

Edwards - show enough instincts to compensate for pedistrian speed and be a solid MLB I think he's shown the instincts already.  Continue to add strength but lean up a bit.  Gain some athleticism.

Jones - time to step up and be an above average outside corner I want him starting.  This is the year.  Show us that you were a top 15 pick prior to the injury.

Maddox - find a spot to shine, I think FS is his best position I think Maddox is a jack of all trades, positionless player who we will plug in as needed.  I like him but I want Sidney to beat him out.

Mills - show you have the instincts to play safety Bring the swagger you had at corner and be a good safety.

How many of these guys step up, not #53, will determine how far this team goes this season

These are great thoughts.  The Eagles DO have young talent, we just need them to develop and like you have said take that next step.

JJAW has taken a beating in here, and deservedly so, but people are throwing dirt on him far too quickly. He might not be E45’s cup of tea as a prospect, but he’s not without talent.

I really think he needs to work on his body.  It looks like he still has his baby fat.  He needs to work with a trainer and build a grown man NFL body.  Build some lean muscle.  A body that can fight with DB in the league.

Threatening blocking amidst a previously amicable online debate is probably the lowest and most primitive reflex, which only serves to detract from your opinion.

I go back and forth on throwing in the towel. On the one hand, he’s got good size, body control, and supposedly his hands are good.

On the other hand he’s slow, lacks quickness/agility, and despite being big seems functionally weak.

I’m not totally convinced he is all that talented. Hightower, for my money, has more talent.

I personally think it’s a psychological thing with him, for the most part. Either he lacks confidence or he just doesn’t want to play football. I think he’ll do better this season because he won’t be so overwhelmed but I don’t got any hope he’ll be any good.

JJAW looks much better now with Reagor, DeSean, and Hightower in the mix to open things up. Not so much with a bunch of 4.5-4.6 possession guys occupying everything within ten yards of the LOS like they had last season. He'll see better matchups with any of those guys on the field.

That sounds like a scouting report for the guy we should have taken last year, Darius Slayton.  instead the Giants got him and he was a rookie stud.

Hopefully Hightower can be that good someday.

What were his combine numbers?  Is he capable of a big jump?

I wouldn't rule out Ertz and Goedert being on the roster past 2021. It just depends what Goedert's market is.

4.50 at 225lbs at his pro day.

34 inch vert 119 broad which are ok.

That would mean $30m invested into the TE position.

So we should expect an average to slightly above average jump.

Not quite. Ertz is the highest paid TE in the league at $12M. Then Kelce at $11M. So, I think you'd be looking at about $20M or a little more. And it's not like you're going to roster Ertz many more years after 2021, so you'd only be paying a premium at that position for 2-3 years.

It just comes down to how efficient the two TEs can be together. If we compliment them with good, fast receivers and Ertz and Goedert cause matchup problems for defenses, there's no reason they cant be rostered together.

WR also is potentially dirt cheap which means we can spend more at TE. Alshon will be gone. Jackson more than likely. Everyone will be on rookie deals and there’s even room for a semi splash in FA/trade

I look at it this way. You currently have four young WR's. One in Reagor you expect/hope will become an impact player. Beyond that, you have THREE lottery tickets. One being JJAW bouncing back from a horrendous rookie season, and the other two being Hightower and Watkins.

I know a lot of people will point to Hightower/Watkins and say ''but they are 5th/6th round picks.'' It was a historically deep WR class so during most years these guys don't make it out of round 4. Also, you just never know who is going to be the next Antonio Brown or Stefon Diggs that a team steals late in the draft. Both of these guys have the speed and physical traits to potentially develop into something.

Either way, if just one of these three guys work out  along with Reagor, it's a victory.

Probably nothing, but
