Not quite. Ertz is the highest paid TE in the league at $12M. Then Kelce at $11M. So, I think you'd be looking at about $20M or a little more. And it's not like you're going to roster Ertz many more years after 2021, so you'd only be paying a premium at that position for 2-3 years.

It just comes down to how efficient the two TEs can be together. If we compliment them with good, fast receivers and Ertz and Goedert cause matchup problems for defenses, there's no reason they cant be rostered together.

I really hate to play the what-if game, but I am still shaking my head that we passed on Metcalf for JJAW.  Just imagine the matchup problems you could create with Ertz, Goedert and Metcalf on the field... <_<

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Or Terry McLaurin... 😪

Would have been awesome as well, but I'm thinking about the type of size advantage you would have with Metcalf and two good receiving TEs.  What the hell does a defense do?  If the put an extra DB on the field, you can really kick their arse in the run game.  If they don't, Ertz and Goedert are matched up against a LB or Metcalf is 1v1 down the field.

Someone came up with a new revolutionary masking agent so he is guaranteed to never piss hot again 🤣

That sounds like a scouting report for the guy we should have taken last year, Darius Slayton.  instead the Giants got him and he was a rookie stud.

Hopefully Hightower can be that good someday.

On paper, Slayton's measurables are a bit better.  On tape, they look comparable.

Just watched a clip of SalPal on get up from this morning. He was going on and on about the Hurts pick and it was all positive. He goes on Philly sports talk radio earlier this week and trashes it. Kind of funny how when he's talking locally it's a bad pick, but on a national show it's a good pick. Kind of like he's pandering to the audience depending on what it is.

WR also is potentially dirt cheap which means we can spend more at TE. Alshon will be gone. Jackson more than likely. Everyone will be on rookie deals and there’s even room for a semi splash in FA/trade

Yup i made this point on the old blog the last time we all talked about ertz and goedert. It really depends more on if goedert wants to be here and be in a two tight end system and not be the guy whereas in free agency he likely becomes someone’s no. 1 but money wise We have no high priced veterans after this year and it’s just going guys on cheaper salaries.

Add on if you extend ertz prior to this season  (assuming kittle signs an extension) you could give him more guaranteed money the next two years and even give him a third year guaranteed but year four make it so you can get out minimal dead money. Can make it a 4 year extension but really it becomes just adding more guarantee for 2020 and 2021 and guaranteeing 2022 and then be able to move on in 2023/ let him play it out cause you Have 3 more years left/restructure it at that point.

Slayton is pretty much the go-to comp for raw, fast mid-round receivers. I think Hightower and Watkins have that in their range of outcomes.

Based on film, I had Hightower over Watkins, but Hightower is almost 24. That paired with his lack of production make for a concerning profile.

Like metcalf but frankly i thought mclaurin was the better player considering how bad Washington was last year and a good portion of the season forced to play with Haskins. I imagine that kid with wentz might have had an even more epic rookie year.

McLaurin is a very good route runner. It's the under-appreciated quality for our team right now. Yes, we need speed, but we also need WRs who can win 1-on-1. McLaurin does that very well.

About the only time he showed good ball skills was that over the wrong shoulder catch vs the Giants.

It was a bad rookie year, no getting around it. Let’s see what happens this year. If he doesn’t make a big jump, he’s gone.

His catch at the sideline in the closing minutes of the loss to the Seahawks during the regular season was probably the single best catch by an Eagles player all season. ("Holy Cow! Did he actually grab that and somehow get both feet in bounds!") But it is routinely forgotten by most fans because they don't like the player and the play really didn't impact the game at all. But it was a great play and an example of what he's capable of doing.

If that’s the route they go they better be putting numbers in Goedert’s agents ear all season this year and give him a semi decent deal in hopes of jumping at money sooner rather than later

So we should expect an average to slightly above average jump.

I dont know.

I mean they always say the biggest jump a player makes is from his rookie to his 2nd year. Todd pinkston had a pretty meh rookie season under 200 yards

Then 2nd season had 42 catches 500+ yards and 4 tds.

If JJAW had a similar jump like that would that be an average jump or above average?

I dont know??? If JJ could have a 2nd season like Pinkstons 2nd. I think it would at least show some improvement and upward trend.

Fun kill of time.

I have no recollection of that play.

If I'm remembering correctly, it happened at the very end of the game basically.

I don’t think they can ink an extension until after 2020 when he’s accrued 3 seasons but they better be talking to goedert and finding out what he and his agent are thinking. Have a contract negotiated and talked about for when that time comes. The longer it drags out and closer goedert gets to free agency you have a higher risk goedert just says I’m going to test the market. At his age and skill set unless kelce becomes available ( doubtful) he’s going to be the best tight end on the free agent market and someone will overpay as we saw with burton for a young, more productive and better tight end (than burton).

That’s what I mean. This is his 3rd season so tease some good money early, keep it up all year and hope to sign him the second you can. If you let him get to FA I think you can safely kiss him goodbye unless you give him a huge contract

Goedert wants to start.  He's not going to re-sign here if Ertz does.

That's kind of my point. People don't like the player, so they block it from their memory. And it didn't really matter anyway.

I believe JJAW also had two big opening drive catches in the cowboys game week 16.

While we are on the subject of JJAW, Goodwin has offered to race him for the number 19.

Does JJAW get a 10-15 yard head start?

I think he's talented in that he has good ball skills. That's an actual skill. How valuable is that skill? Well...

Plaxico Burress ran a 4.60. He had height, caught with his hands and had great body control.

If you have an accurate QB, know how to use your body to gain position and can snatch with strong hands, you don't have to be a speed merchant.

We'll see how JJAW progresses this season.

It’s at the 25 second mark. It’s OK. This terrible highlight video doesn’t even have the Giants catch for some reason.
