I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

If Dalton gets signed to start at $10M or so, it'll just show you why you can't rely on signing a veteran QB as a backup.

Because to me, Dalton at this point in his career (arm, what arm?) is a backup QB.

For one thing, he's starting to break down physically.

Every single team in the NFL disagreed with him.

I like the Dillard draft pick.  I like what I saw at LT in limited action.  I thought he was sufficiently bad at RT, regardless of the fact that he was thrown into an uncomfortable situation, to have at least some level of concern.

I think most fans have been ready to embrace Dillard as the LT this year.  The real Dillard hate seems to be coming from rumblings from within their own organization.

Or... rumblings that some are attributing to within their own organization.  No actual action taken by the team has taken place that would actively confirm those rumblings.  No trade during the draft, no high pick on an OT (Prince is great value in Round 6 though... I had him as a late Round 2/early Round 3 pick).  And they haven't signed another OT as a starter, backup capable of starting, or anything else.  So, its just guessing from the outside and people with nothing better to do coming up with conspiracy theories about Dillard.

Of course, Dillard did himself no favors with his comments about playing RT, then his disastrous performance at RT.  BUT... he looked more than adequate in his limited time at LT.  He's not Jason Peters.  He will never be Jason Peters.  That said, it's unlikely any of the handful of OTs taken in this past draft are going to become Jason Peters either.  Dillard still has a ways to go before he can be talked about in the same sentence as Tra Thomas, but that's what I see his upside to be.  And he may never even be that good.  But, this franchise has absolutely spoiled this fan base with their OT play.  Since 1998 with the drafting of Thomas, and 2000 with the signing of Runyan, the Eagles have had the best and most stable bookends in the NFL over the past 20 years.  Thomas was a perennial Pro Bowler at LT.  Runyan was a very solid RT, who brought a nasty streak to a bunch of nice guys and gave them an edge from tackle to tackle.  We transitioned quickly from Thomas to Peters, and from Runyan to Johnson.  Maybe 2 years down the whole time, not counting the one year Peters missed due to the Achilles.   And to a certain extent, the Eagles have even had very very good backup OTs during that span as well with Herremanns and Vaitai (even Seumalo at RT) filling in admirably when called upon.  Dillard likely won't live up to the level of Peters or Thomas.  Maybe he'll get to Runyan's level of consistency, though certainly not his edge or nastiness.

I have high hopes, but those hopes are grounded, I believe.  If he's an above average LT, then that's a great pick from last year's draft given where he fell.  Top NFL OTs are almost exclusively found in the top 5, maybe top 10 of the draft.

It’s one of those not worth entertaining

JP to guard will literally never die.

Worth noting that Bob Bicknell is the Bengals WR coach and was the WR coach at Baylor in 2017. They passed on Mims for Higgins.

Mims smells like 'bust' to me.  We'll see.  He was not the name I wanted to hear at 53.  I was relieved not to hear it.

Your post about Dillard’s ‘mental toughness’ is based in ignorance.  Your comment regarding Brooks reads somewhat more prejudicial beyond being ignorant regarding mental health issues.

So it's OK for this board to absolutely trash Nelson for his confidence and mental toughness but I question Dillard's when there have been reports of him having breakdowns in training camp and I'm ignorant?  I'm posting an honest question.  His confidence could have been rattled after the game the Eagles put him at RT and it could be very hard to get that back.  He knew he wasn't ready for the game based on his own comments about learning to write left handed.

Regarding my comment on Brooks, not being prejudiced at all.  Just stating a fact that we don't know when another anxiety attack might come and cost him a game or 2.  Look what happened this past year.  It's the same with DJack.  We know he is probably going to miss a game or 2 because of an injury.  I'm taking nothing away from Brandon Brooks.  It's great that he was able to admit he has anxiety to the point where it affects his ability to do his job but the fact is we are OK with that because he performs at a high level when he's on the field.  There is no prejudice or ignorance with that mindset.

I would have been decidedly more happy with Mims than the name we did hear...

The entire interview about him "Being scared of the city/people" was just bizarre and more than likely took him off the Eagles board. (Or dropped him significantly).

If I were to guess, he might have been smoking some green stuff prior to the interview....usually sober people wouldn't say that in an interview (Even if it were true and he felt that way).

I have high hopes based on everything I've seen.  Lane's comments, the whispers of trade attempts, the lack of supporting comments.....I'm very concerned they think he's not up for the job.

Try being from a town as small as he is and going to the city.

Most equate things they see on movies and TV to actual reality.

I came from a town slightly bigger than he and almost everyone from my neck of the woods are too scared to venture out much past driving distance of their comfort zone.

Maybe for a quick visit, but definitely not to live in.

Hell, I was a bit scared moving to NYC and that was after living in Vegas, Phoenix, and LA.

This is whatever Lane is referring to so I doubt it’s Jason Peters

As much as I hate the Pats, I hate Tom Brady more.

To see him fail to win a playoff game with those weapons (even at his extreme age) while Belichek goes 12-4 and gets to another SB with interchangeable parts and a cast off QB with the offense performing no differently than a mid 2000's Patriots offense would/should do real damage to Brady's legacy.  The system QB from the ultimate system.

On first blush, my initial hope was to move down a little get some more draft capital.  Second choice was addressing the defense.  Once Higgins went off the board, my interest in a WR at that point was minimal.  Mims was a guy I loved in Round 4 or 5 early in the process, but as his stock rose, my interest waned.

Right.  I get all that but would you say that in an interview about a city of a team that has a "high interest" in you?  Even if you did feel that way?  Pretty sure the dude was high....or someone never taught him to "think before you speak".

Technically, it seems Lane is about to become the second Eagle ever to work out in front of a crew of reporters in his driveway/lawn/barn.  Should we be worried?  🤣

Take it for what it’s worth but howie during his presser has the piece of paper saying 3 things were can they run, are they durable/healthy and do they love football. Zach berman in the podcast said one of the reporters asked if the last one pertained to last years team/player. He made the connection to dillard. Like i didn’t know all this but apparently Berman said in high school he wanted to quit the team and cried on the field but his mom told him football chose him not he chose football and made him stay in it. He became really good and was fine. Then went to Washington State nearly quit again but they got the coaching staff to teach him in a way where he responded well to it and became what he did.

not saying that’s my take just that Berman put it out there.

Right.  There's what you've seen... which is positive at LT.  then there's what you've heard... mostly rumors, reading between lines, tea leaves, etc.  Nothing the team has actually done should make you question him.... yet.  There's still time for that though.

He was just being truthful about his first experience there. Didn't he say he was in high school? Wasn't that a while ago?

I think he probably found it more funny enlightening than anything that would be damning.
