Sort of my assessment as well but you don't just toss away guys who "have been" the best LT in the league. It's a premium position.

If Peters were a LB, there'd be no chance. So many Eagles were injured last year, maybe he was playing through a nagging injury. Who knows?

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Stop. I said six sacks. You said five. I counted the playoff game and you immediately discounted it, later back tracking and calling it a good play.

No one is justifying the pick. You’re just moving the goal posts.

The other thing about D.B. is he's pretty good against the run as well. As I said in the other hater thread. He's not Reggie White but he's not Jerome McDougle either.

The hate he gets around here is ridiculous

We haven't re-signed Peters have we?

I don’t think anyone has accused him of being Mcdougle or Marcus Smith.

He did have more penalties and yards than he did sacks and yards lost.  That’s not ideal.  His 2021 salary also is not ideal.

The contradiction of the pick is what bothers me. If they made the pick based on your above scenario, then they totally screwed up giving Wentz the keys to the franchise and he's not the answer. Because in a perfect world, Wentz is the quarterback for this team for the next 7-8 years. This was an insurance selection, unless if they're afraid Wentz is going to pull a Luck and retire if he suffers another significant injury or he has told them that he only plans on playing for another couple years.

I think you nailed it. Fwiw, I think some front offices have more faith in their starter’s injury history. The ones that don’t show it by implementing aggressive backup plans.

One thing that’s been glossed over. At least in 2017 and 2018, the Eagles roster was playoff-caliber even without Wentz. Last year, it wasn’t with the insane amounts of injuries. I bet the FO is thinking that with their upgrades on defense, and hopefully more speed on offense, that is still the case.

Evidently the Eagles aren't worried about it. And before you say "they have no choice" there are defensive ends out there to be picked up that can play.

I'm curious  @eagle45 if there is a list somewhere that shows D.E.s penalties vs sacks and tfl?

Been waiting for this guy to post

I love how we're supposed to try to find players from that angle like we know what every player looks like.  The pre-snap arrows or circles are so helpful.  With that being said, once I watched the play a few times to figure out who Taylor was, yes he is fast.

Also, this is a knock on the tweet not you.

There's no objectivity here about Barnett and won't be till the day he's gone.  Then suddenly everyone will say he always disappointed.

I think it could easily be argued that you haven’t shown any objectivity from the beginning.

Camp hasn't even begun yet but some of the assessments of some of the draft picks?

Lol for instance if Davion Taylor OR Shaun Bradley have a strong camp given our current corps they could easily be starting day one.

Yeah I could see making the assessment that nobody's going to supplant Lane Johnson but the fields wide open for those two.

No to Peters. Tired of watching him get a penalty, hobble off the field and get beaten by speed edge rushers.

Love the guy and I appreciate all he's done for Philly, but no more.

Barnett is such a frustrating player. He flashes occasionally, and he's just good enough that we can't move on from him but not good enough that we can count on him as a major contributor. Okay production, stupid penalties, probably never going to be a big sacks guy but we have no one to replace him with so we're just kind of stuck.

The Team did not address the DE position in the draft.  Any change or upgrade will rest with the guys already on the roster.  Some possibilities to watch, e.g. Avery, but no clear candidate to take the starter status from Barnett.  Graham is getting old though still productive.  He too needs a back-up to step up.  IMO, DE production this season may be on the slide.

Given how much stronger we got in the middle, those outside guys might have a field day this year. Won't know until we see it. The Eagles in my book have the best up the middle DL in the  league.

Life gets much easier when you only have to beat one guy.

I think we have to accept if they re-sign Peters it’s because there’s something wrong or missing with Dillard that leads them to believe he isn’t ready.

To those who say the 40 doesn’t matter, the Vikings GM on Jefferson...

"The biggest thing that lifted him up in this process – was you seen good speed on tape and after the catch, but when he went and ran in the 4.4s at the Combine, that went and elevated his status even more.”

Of course teams look at 40 times. Why is this even a question?  It’s one stat/measurable among many others.

Everyone looks at 40 times.  Now how much a 40 time weighs in against other measurables is dependent on the position, the size of the player, what his actual "in game speed” is and how much the person/team evaluating the player values 40 times, etc.

A chance to watch a Prince and Driscoll double feature.

I’ll leave the analysis to the OL gurus in here. I freely admit I am not one.

By no means a dominant performance by Prince, but the most interesting thing I picked up, he flipped to the right side in Unbalanced line formations, aligning outside Driscoll.  On the flipside, Driscoll did not flip to the left side (at least not that I could see).

Next most interesting thing, they used Prince on the edge a bit out in space as a lead blocker looking for screens, etc.  He struggled a bit to find a target out there.

Hard to see footwork from these angles.

Look forward to @justrelax's take.

It is a difficult situation how to bring Peters back.  He is well liked by the team and fans.  But clearly not as good as he used to be and will get worse if continues to hold the critical LT position.  If Dillard does not have major issues not known to the public, play him at LT and let Peters go.  This is the time to move on.

I watched this game and his game against UCLA.

I love these types of picks in the 7th round.  He's got an upside, and he has the athleticism to maximize it.  He needs the coaching to get there.

I think there’s a total disconnect when discussing Barnett.

I think most can admit he hasn’t played up to the expectation of the 14th overall pick.

That doesn’t make him a bad player either.

How about on a team friendly deal around $5 mil?

This is pretty much how I feel about him.  And if he improves from where he is now, he will actually be borderline pro-bowl caliber.  But he needs to take that next step and have a breakout year...something like a 10 sack season would turn some heads.

I love how everyone bishes about the DE when we've had absolute dreck at the CB position the last 2 years, maybe 3.

I willing to bet Barnett, Cox, etc get a few more sacks without the QB being able to get the ball out in 1.8 seconds everytime.

5 in the regular season...

I don’t think anyone looking at things fairly would boast about his speed off the edge.

He’s not bad.  He’s someone you put on the field, trust him to not get taken advantage of, and to take care of an assignment.  But you rely on other guys surrounding him to be the reason your team is better than others and wins games.  That’s what Jordan Matthews was.  That’s what Barnett is.

But that’s not completely true. He pushes the pocket better than Graham and plays the run real well.  Exactly what we expect of a DE in Schwartz’s wide 9. Do you want Babin 2.0 because that is what we have in Toohill at this point. Unquestionably, the DL play is better when Barnett plays.  Now having two well performing DTs in on a lot of the snaps is the key to the defense.  Squeeze the pocket and contain the run.  Vinny got good at that and Sweat came along and performed well enough to replace Vinny.  If Miller and Avery step up,like,Sweat then that’s not bad.

The problem with Barnett has been availability.  Now for a lot of the players on the team, that has been an issue.

This is a really good point. Tighter coverage along with more disruption from DTs should lead to more production from our DEs. That’s a safe bet
