I try to not get caught up with that stuff since it’s a small sample size and he’s working with a QB he’s not familiar with. Besides, he might have just had a hard time finding it initially.

Now if you see that a handful of times during his Baylor tape...

Agreed. It’s just that at Baylor I didn’t (in limited viewing) see him make adjustments on deep balls. He was very good at using his body to shield defenders, make contested catches, etc. The ball tracking and deep ball ability wasn’t a calling card for him.

Doesn’t mean he’ll suck at it on the pro level, but I do think that’s a ?, despite his incredible workout #s

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

But that’s not completely true. He pushes the pocket better than Graham and plays the run real well.  Exactly what we expect of a DE in Schwartz’s wide 9. Do you want Babin 2.0 because that is what we have in Toohill at this point. Unquestionably, the DL play is better when Barnett plays.  Now having two well performing DTs in on a lot of the snaps is the key to the defense.  Squeeze the pocket and contain the run.  Vinny got good at that and Sweat came along and performed well enough to replace Vinny.  If Miller and Avery step up,like,Sweat then that’s not bad.

The problem with Barnett has been availability.  Now for a lot of the players on the team, that has been an issue.

IMO, the notion that our disappointing edge rushers are these uniquely special run defenders and edge contain assets has been an overused cop out extending 20 years back to Brandon Whiting.

I would never argue that the DL is better off without Barnett or better off with just Sweat/Avery/Miller.  I agree they are better with him.  But I am arguing that he’s not what you want from a top 15 pick, nor is he what you want from a DE making >$10m.

agree

I know a lot of people on here were pinning for Lynn Bowden, but with him choosing # 33 I don’t think he has the best decision skills

Probably gonna post something like this once a week. 31 percent... double yikes.

I saw that the other day.  Justin Jefferson fans take note, he had the highest accurate pass %  at a whopping 69%.

Now compare that to what Reagor dealt with at 31%.

While I agree that he's not played up to a top pick I disagree that 10 mil is some kind of too much for a d.e.

Pretty sure nobody used those words.

I thought calling the team QB Factory is bit arrogant.  Desires to groom and develop QB is honorable, but churning QBs out for the league is more a job for the college teams.  Most of the quality QBs in NFL have arrived with QB accomplishments in college.  The pro coaching and game experience get them to a higher level.  It is more like refining the player than manufacturing one from scratch.

Having 2 QBs on the field did not work for me.  As a decoy, having a skill position player to double on passing the ball would work better.  Remember the Phillie Special?  Could that work with the same effect if someone like Hurts were to make that throw?  IMHO, defense would have smelt it if 2 QBs were on the field for that play.

In the early days of Mike Vick with the team, he would come in replacing McNabb on some plays.  That again was a give-away on the kind of plays to be run, and that did not work all that well either.

Just exactly which quarterbacks have we developed here?

I do remember someone on the espn broadcast saying they drafted him as a RB, so that seems to back that claim

Shaq Lawson has a similar statistical profile as Barnett and was given a three-year, $30M contract by Miami.

Do we know when the schedule is going to be released?

There are just so many that may be 1st rounders it seems like there are enough 1st round WRs to last in to the 3rd. Its insane.

@ghor? @meatmcginley?

Ridiculous belt

Not even close to enough skeletal muscle fatigue to generate any meaningful gains for his chest, arms, or abs

The most impressive part was his ability to catch himself falling. The rest is pretty much nonsense imo

Mike Mayock on Rich Eisen yesterday said they drafted him as an RB. Maybe use him in the slot or outside a bit with some wildcat qb plays but hes an rb

It’s not awful.  Its not great either.

It’s a problem in the context of paying Graham the $18m or so that he’s due next year.

A $28.5m cap hit from Graham/Barnett as the bookends in 2021 is not acceptable.

I'd put that more on Grahams contract than his. At this stage I'm not sure that graham is twice the player Barnett is.

A lot. TBF, you can praise Andy for a lot of those, but even here Wentz/Foles got a lot better under Pederson.

If all goes to plan it will be next Thursday

No disagreement here.

I’ve said from the beginning...I’d cut Graham and pick up Barnett’s option...or extend Barnett from 2021-2023 to dilute the number.

I complain about Barnett because I don’t like our return on investment.  But I wouldn’t actually do anything differently with him.

Can that dead cap possibly be right? A $12M dead cap after 2021?

Yes, that's what happens with void years.

Either Howie is really better on the cap increasing with new TV deals in 2022 or Graham is retiring at the end of the year and that cap hit reduces by up to half.

Yes. That’s the result of restructuring a guys contract you just signed him to 8 months ago

That’s a bad contract structure. Yikes.

I have to assume there is a way out of that contract that is not apparent on the cap website.

I find it shocking that Howie would go from nearly letting him walk before signing that deal to wrapping up that kind of capital in him for 2021.
