If we listened to him we'd have drafted Tavon Austin 4th overall over Lane Johnson

Lane Johnson is one of the all time best picks.  Not based on final product and value but the decision.

That was a garbage top 10 with a lot of pitfalls.  Lane was the smart pick at the time, but far from a slam dunk.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Yes, all are more proven in the NFL than Hurts.

Apparently Winston just got that surgery on his eyes too. If he gets a chance to play in NO and resurrects his career at worse the Saints have got themselves a comp pick. At best they have a guy who can take over for Brees. What he signed for was basically nothing and already has more value than Hurts.

Plenty of older QBs have done what exactly?  Flacco is 35 years old, that's not exactly young.  That's when most QBs are pushing hard on the retirement door.  And his neck injury was significant enough to end his season.   Interestingly enough, it was disc herniation.  Same injury that forced Manning out for a full year, when he got fusion surgery, and when he returned, he didn't have nearly the same zip on his throws.   Flacco might come back for 2020... but you think he'll have the same ability to throw?  I'm not sure.

We'll leave it here.  I don't see Flacco as an answer as a backup QB for this team in 2020.  You do.  Ok.  We'll see if any of the other 31 teams think Flacco is worth bringing in.

Flacco was an example.  He wouldn't be my pick.  All I'm saying is I'd rather have a vet backup and another player in the 2nd round than Hurts.

Nope, they got a guy who will cost them games if Brees goes down.  Winston needs surgery on his brain more than his eyes.  He provides no value at all and I’d be a little surprised if he’s not #3 on their depth chart even behind Hill.

You ain’t lying. There were maybe 10 players drafted in the first round who were above average or better. The top half was especially bad.

I have seen worse prospects than him completely turn things around in the right situation with the right direction. I don't think Peyton brings him in if he doesn't think much of him.

I sorta expect that kind of reaction from most season ticket holders. However, the choice would seem to be that or some similar plan to properly social distance the fans in the stands, or no fans at all.

I would say just like everyone has had to deal with cancelled vacations, cancelled weddings, closed stores and restaurants temporarily youd have to pretty much tell the ticket holders, this is how it is for the season.

No fans in the stands at all is something that I could accept if it came to that. I wouldn't be happy but I would understand. What I will not accept is the idea of allowing some seat license holders in while keeping others out. Even worse would be telling seat license holders that they can't come, and then turn around and then sell tickets to the general public.

Well, I'll flip the question you posed back on you?  Who?  I'm not a fan of Flacco, Newton or Winston, and Winston isn't even an option anymore.  So, who would this vet backup you'd prefer be?

Whatever their end goal is for this 2 QB system, it will probably take a few weeks, maybe even months, before it comes to fruition.

15 snaps is actually a lot.  Our first and second round picks are usually busts who don't play for 2 years, let alone rookies who are on the field for 15 snaps per week.

I'm not saying it can't work...history is littered with inflexible minds who said creative things couldn't be done.  But there ARE major issues that need to be navigated.

1.  Even if this eventually matures into a great idea, there will be hiccups.  And early failure is still failure for a team that believes to be in the middle of its SB window.  The tolerance and patience to let this play out will be limited.  Immediate success is great, but still needs to prove durable as the league adjusts.

2.  What is Wentz doing on direct snaps to Hurts?  He's not going to be blocking or catching passes.  What is Hurts doing on direct snaps to Wentz?  If the possible outcomes of these plays are reviewed by the competition and become predictable, the Eagles could be functionally playing with 10 men on the field.

3.  Who is coming off the field when Hurts goes on?  Are we going to take a WR or Goedert off the field, giving Wentz one less target so someone can stand next to him?  Is Sanders coming off, giving us an "empty" backfield with 2 QBs?  That's fine...I'm all for resting our young emerging RB.  But is Hurts going to be willing to pick up the blitz like a RB?  That's a big ask.

Point #2 plays into my concerns. We drafted this guy because they want insurance in case Wentz goes down, so in the mean time, they're going to put him in the game where he's either a decoy, and like you said,we're playing with 10 men, or he's going to put himself in a position to take a lot of unnecessary shots. Seems counter productive.

Well Foles for a 4th would have been ok. Daulton is ok for me as well.

I would have been fine with that, like I said, he's the best backup in the NFL, maybe in NFL history.  But, that was never really an option, because of the firestorm that would have created.

Daulton... pfft.  Disagree on him.

Howie wants to build an all track team. He already added one injury prone speedster. Why not another who actually has potential and is young?

Can you think of a fair way to have fans in the stands with good social distancing?

Co-sign

I know I will probably catch crap for it, but Winston isn't THAT bad. He's not a great QB by any means and certainly makes some terrible decisions, but you could do a lot worse for a back up, especially at that price tag.

I’ve been on this bandwagon for two years now. Perfect buy low opportunity. Let Moorehead mold him. Kid has sky high potential and is still young enough to pan out. He had plenty of flashes to show he has that potential in him.

Another thing to keep in mind is government officials. If just one Governor or Mayor don’t sign off on large sports gatherings then the entire league has to play without fans since it’s an unfair advantage.

Winston could be a decent QB.  But, until he grows up, he won't be that guy, not as a starter and not as a backup.   And please, keep him away from pre-game speeches.

Newsflash...

No one is social distancing today. This whole pandemic is looking more and more overdramatized.

That’s all.

No.  The problem is more the concourses and rest rooms. And in the stands, even if you assign seats separated by a required distance, it would be virtually impossible to enforce. People constantly move around during a game, which is actually one of my pet peeves...people constantly getting up and down and going every which way.

stands would be easy to enforce. Let ushers know youre filling even rows, or off rows. Itll be very easy to spot the guy whos in the empty row and tell him to move.

and, my plan has the stadium at less than 50% full. I really dont see concourses being an issue.

Have you actually read through Gov. Wolf's reopen plan?  So many questions come up once you read it.  This isn't intended to be political, I think it's important for ALL PA residents to read through.  So much doesn't make sense.  I'm NOT taking away from the severity of the virus or all the of hard work from the frontline first responders (several on here, sincerely we all thank you).  However there are far too many items that don't line up.  County coroners questioning deaths, rise in opioid related deaths, suicide, domestic abuse..the list goes on.

This is from Phase 3...green light.

Fair, family-sustaining wages for all Pennsylvanians.

Increase the minimum wage to $12 with a path to $15.  (Never let a good crisis go to waste is the saying.  So you want restaurants and local businesses to open up with new social distancing rules reducing the amount of paying customers, yet you want the business owners who just sacrificed 2 months of revenue to pay more for less.  OK, makes a lot of sense there Tom.)

Enactment of better worker protection standards.

Employees should not be discharged, penalized, or discriminated against if they isolate or quarantine related to COVID-19. (Why not just do that now?  If you choose to isolate so be it.  You won't be fired, you won't be fined or doct any pay, it's just your decision based on what makes you feel safe.  For the rest who feel safe and want to go to work, want to go to a restaurant, a ball game, the beach, church or any other event let them.)

Employers must maintain safe and healthy environments.

Protections should also exist for employees who report workplace violations.

Ya, 60,000 deaths in 8 weeks with the entire country shut down is showing its "overblown".

Should have just stayed open.
