I agree with all of this but the main point he probably won't even be ready to play if the season starts on time. Also, acting like Spadaro putting that out there is proof of anything is laughable. Spadaro is basically a hired mouth piece for the organization. Howie keeps mentioning Alshon, yet Pederson hasn't when he talks about WR. I wonder why.

Yeah I don't buy it.  Spadaro is just doing his part to pump up Alshon's value, which is cratering more than the airlines at the moment.

Under no circumstances should they keep this has-been on the roster and waste $12M in cap for a sure to be gimpy/limited 2020 season.  Just eat the $10M cap hit now and get rid of him.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Loved Willis.  If we can ignore athletic testing due to his failure, then we'll also have to ignore college production (11.5 sacks, Big-12 defensive player of the year).  I guess he's the poster child for ignoring everything.

Pretty much. He was so stiff and couldn’t bend.

it seems to have a lot of weight on height/weight/speed

It seems you can post average jumps or other things but if youre big and fast you get a good speed score and a good RAS.

I also think they make up a lot of numbers. I looked in to their max MPH for Higgins, and they have multiple steps to mathematically estimate different splits and put that all together to come up with an MPH. Which is not a real MPH measure. Though I believe he is faster at top speed than almost anyone gives him credit for, 22.5mph seems unrealistic.

They really don’t consider agility or feet.  Nothing for bend.  I like SPARQ better

If everyone has finally tired of the QB and WR discussion, I want to talk LBs.

Projected Depth Chart:

MLB: Edwards | Bradley

SLB: Geary | Taylor

WLB: Brown | Riley

PS: Singleton | Olson

The WLB listed above would come off the field when we go to Nickel, so they're not going to be "starting" or even playing that often.

Question 1: Will T.J. Edwards be able to handle being the starting MLB?

Question 2: Will Nate Geary be the other starter?  Will he be the sole Dime backer?

Question 3: Who will play WLB when we play 3 LBs?

I understand that we don't value this position, but I'm still concerned it is a defensive weakness that can be exploited.

He hasn’t been medically cleared yet. With his 2020 guarantee, there is no value in cutting him at this point.

No, only $1M of his 2020 salary is guaranteed.  The remaining $11M is NOT guaranteed.  We can cut him right now to save that $11M.

I’m fully prepared to just wear a biohazard suit to games, no concessions and have my phone boo or cheer. I’m that committed.

I think the LBs will be pretty good this year.

67% of the snaps will feature 2 LBs.  I think this will mostly be Brown/Gerry.

33% will be a typical 4-3 base defense.  This will probably be Brown/Gerry/Edwards.  Edwards is going to be the MIKE in the base defense, but I bet he's the one to come off the field for the nickel.

I can't imagine fans wearing masks for the whole game. Eating, drinking, cheering.

Alshon has a dead cap value of $26M. I think with the new CBA, you're allowed to spread that over the remaining years of the deal. 2 years on Alshon's contract. So at best it's a $13M dead cap for Alshon in 2020 and 2021.

I worry that teams will run it down our throat if our nickel has Geary + Brown as the 2 LBs.

What's Brown's deal anyway?  I've read he was pretty decent for awhile with the Chargers.

That's 100% from Dawkins.

If we cut Alshon pre-June 1st we take a $10M dead cap charge this year and clear the books of him entirely in 2021 and going forward.  It's best to just take the hit now as opposed to incurring another $11M for him in 2020, and then deferring the remaining cap hit over future years.

It's highly unlikely he's going to provide $11M worth of value in 2020 coming off a December Lisfranc surgery.

It can be fairly fluid; they can get Edwards in there if there are problems on the ground.

This is consistently a top 5 run D and a bad pass defense, so I bet they will start out OK with making concessions on the ground for a faster LB who is better in coverage.  We have always had athletic LBs who cover well under Schwartz.

Not true. It's a $10,659,500 cap penalty in addition to his $15,446,500 2020 cap hit. That's where you get the 2020 deap cap of $26M with a cut this year.

Yeah this is what I figure.  We'll have a run-heavy/big nickel package with Edwards and Geary.  While the pass-heavy/small package will have Geary + someone else.  And they'll mix and match situationally.

It's huge for the team and the defense in general that they are spending virtually NOTHING at the LB position this season.  Hopefully those dollars are put to better use elsewhere.

I was looking at Spotrac which didn't show his 2020 salary as guaranteed.  But overthecap shows it is guaranteed.  So yes if that's the case, there's zero point to cut Alshon if we have to eat his 2020 salary anyway.  The only hope is to trade him to a team that would swallow that contract.  Highly unlikely, so it appears we're stuck with him.

I suppose that's why he needs to be figured into the 2020 plans after all.

My bad you are right.  Barring a trade we're stuck w/Alshon for 2020.

So far... the NFL hasn't got much to complain about compared to the NBA, NHL and MLB.

Circling back to the 40 time, during the podcast Banner said a lot of people point to the 40 as high correlation to success as a pass rusher. He said that wasn’t true. It’s the 10-yard split.

I tend to find that jumps are the best measure for linemen on both sides of the ball, adjusted for weight.

So a 250 lb DE should jump 35+", but a 300 DT or OT who jumps 30+ has good leg explosion, while a 340 lb lineman should get over 27+".

The "jumps" matter b/c first step quickness is the key, some is quick twitch, some is anticipaton (film study and instincts), some is leg explosion.

The 10 yard splits matter more in the days of immobile QBs where DEs ran around OTs, now you want your DE staying home more, especially the LDE, because you don't want QBs able to roll right (if they're RH) and make throws on the run (harder to make that throw running left).

Does Reagor return punts this season, or will it be mostly Boston Scott?

You want Reagor on punts and Hightower or Killins on kicks.

Would you package him with a draft pick or swap draft picks to get him off the books?

Basically, what is cap space worth in draft pick terms?
