People have quickly forgotten how when we had DJAX and Maclin the first time, everyone was crying that all they could do was run go routes, we had no possession receivers, etc. Now after last year, everyone just wants speed regardless of route running.

We won’t succeed with only one of those types. Need both types.

Maclin could run mid and sideline routes as well.

Ertz and goedert can be the posession guys.

Desean is really good at come back routes. Corners play so far off him and he stops so fast that that 7 yard hitch is open all day.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

For those interested, Joe Marino from TDN is a good friend of mine.  His wife and my wife are best friends from college.  They both stopped by yesterday in our backyard for some "social distancing" drinks, and Joe had some really good things to say about Reagor.

1)  Joe interviewed him at the combine this year, and specifically asked how it felt to have a QB that threw an accurate pass 31% of the time, by far the worst in the country.  Joe figured Reagor would use that as an excuse for any lack of production, but instead, he responded that it really helped him become a leader in many different ways throughout the season.

2)  This led me to ask about his unwillingness to block or take plays off if the play isn't designed for him.  Joe went on to say that a lot of players on offenses in the Big 12 are specifically asked and coached to NOT expend any unnecessary energy on plays where they aren't involved (some are literally coached to not even move after the snap).  I don't know if this is a fact for Reagor, but I thought it was an interesting thing to look at.

3)  Joe also said that Reagor is built like a tank.  He's not some skinny burner.  He's a thick dude, and even if he doesn't get the necessary separation, he will out muscle and obviously out jump anyone near him.

4)  He really needs to work on the concentration drops at the next level.

That sounds like complete and utter BS.

You’re telling me freakin 18-22 year old D-1 football WRs are asked to not even move at times because the coaches don’t want them expending too much energy... if that’s true then there’s much of the reason the Big 12 sucks and has a reputation for being soft.

Christ... they’re WRs, not basketball, hockey, or soccer players. O and D lineman work at more of an aerobic pace than WRs and they’re 250-350.

Between the rest between plays, series, and TV timeouts, there is no reason a freakin WR should get gassed or experience muscle fatigue in that way. If so, your offseason conditioning program (and probably nutrition program) needs a big overhaul.

Reagor didn’t try hard on those plays because he didn’t care and his coaches were enablers. Plain and simple. Let’s hope that changes.

Yup.  And clearly, he's been absorbing some of Dawkins' teachings.

He's not 2017 Alshon.  I cannot imagine a good to great NFL offense that has Alshon on the field as a full time player getting >100 targets per year.

Everyone healthy... 2019 Alshon is at least the second best WR on this team.

I’m 50/50 on whether I think they should cut him. Not sure on the injury, salary cap, etc. Don’t really care at this point but if he can play the team is better with him. Especially in the redzone.

My concern is the Eagles just trying to mimic the Chiefs. Just because one philosophy works well for one team doesn’t mean it’ll work well for every team. My feeling is Doug is in full blown mad scientist mode and is going to over complicate things. Oh well though, it’s just a stupid game.

Those teams would have been great if you throw in say... Wentz, Ertz, and our current o-line...

I say keep him and let him sit the first 4-8 weeks to get healthy.  Hopefully by then we are in a position to make the playoffs, he realizes this and helps the team at the very least as a possession or RZ WR.

I feel he was really slow last year because of the foot injury.  Hes not a #1 and quite honestly I never felt he was one anyway.  Never even wanted him to begin with because of the injury history.  But he can come back some point in the season and be an asset.  Then they let him go after the season is over.

This is more of a connection than some of the players they talked about. I really liked how much his tweet hyped it up but the article when it comes to Hightower is "there’s no real connection but he likes Meek Mill”

He was slow last year but he still had better get off and separation than JJAW.

And be glad we got him because there’s no super bowl without him. Imo, he was the mvp that day.

I'd take him over JJAW anyday.

I'm grateful to all the guys that were on that 2017 team.  But that Alshon is long gone.

Alshon played well, but Foles was far and away the best.

Baylor WRs were taught to take plays off when the ball wasn’t going their way. It was talked about a ton when Corey Coleman was in the draft.

Absurd.

Foles was great. But Ertz and Agholor don’t tear it up and dominate 1v1 coverage without Alshon. You can see that on the Eagles last TD drive.

Pardon my ignorance for not looking this up, but IIRC, even though his 2020 salary may be guaranteed, cutting him now avoids a 2021 cap hit.  Cutting him now essentially pushes $10m of cap space into next year.

I have a very, very low opinion of what Alshon has left.  I think his 2020 salary is wasted whether he is on the roster or off it.  So either take a $25m hit now by cutting him now....or take a $15m hit now because you keep him and then a $10m hit when you cut him next year.

He is useless.  You are wasting $25m either way.  Might as well waste it all now and roll some cap space into next year.

It is NOT worth $10m of 2021 cap space to have Alshon on the roster this year.  That's essentially what we are weighing here.  Alshon on the roster this year for $10m of cap space in 2021.

I was confused about this because I thought his 2020 salary was not guaranteed.  Since it is guaranteed, it makes no difference to overall cap usage if we cut him now versus next offseason.  The only difference is you are losing his services for this year.  We can just wait until next offseason since his 2021 and onward salaries are NOT guaranteed.

The only way to save the overall $10M of cap is to find a trade partner willing to swallow his deal this offseason.  If we strike out we gain nothing by cutting him before next offseason.

Would you package him with a draft pick or swap draft picks to get him off the books?

Basically, what is cap space worth in draft pick terms?

I'd be more than happy to hand over a 4th rounder if someone would take Alshon off our hands.  Sadly I think it would cost at least a 3rd.

I think there was a Brock Osweiler deal like this a few years ago that would help to quantify the draft pick value of cap space.

Based on cap inflation and the 2-3 trades we’ve seen like this in the last 5 years, $10m in cap space is worth a mid to late 4th round pick.

During his opening presser as an Eagle, Taylor mentioned that it wasn’t a scout or personnel employee doing the digging – rather Jim Schwartz himself.

I kept getting phone calls from Coach Schwartz [Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz], the linebacker coach [Ken Flajole], and to be honest, I didn’t expect to come to the Eagles, but when I got that phone call I was overjoyed. I’m really excited to become an Eagle, and just looking forward to the future.

"Montae Reagor, his father, played for the Eagles as a defensive tackle back in 2007" I don't remember him at all.

He was actually really built up by the hype machine as a big addition.

I want Alshon gone. He's 30, never healthy, so damn slow, talked behind the back of Wentz, and most importantly, he isn't good anymore. He's also coming off the worst injury of his career. Why would he suddenly get better?

Too late Howie paid him and unless there are better or equal WR available to play then they both got to play to their contract. Sure, maybe we have 5 or 6 that are as good or better and a few that can fill his role then trade him for anything or let him stew. Too early to cut bait until we see what we have. It’s water under the bridge but still something that could be somewhat salvageable. Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face unless you got a spare one around

May the best man win

Just win baby, that takes priority for mgmt as well as us as fans. Just watch if the situation arises. I expect he will not get the benefit of the doubt and he made his bed but I’m saying there is a chance still from what I see. What went on behind closed doors however ... but he is still here and until that time that still makes him an option

I remember reading that before on the dead board regarding I believe Baylor WR’s. I think it was 2019 draft but it could have been 2018

I understand the idea of college players looking ahead to enhancing their chances of being drafted higher by wanting to avoid injuries and wanting a scheme that fits their strengths, maybe Reagor and it sounds for sure Khalil Tate. We are talking possibly millions and millions of $$$ so it is at least understandable. Nobody wants prima donnas but face it, some of then are the best

Whatever he eventually signs for with another team I believe it's less that the Eagles will owe him. He's not worth 3 million dollars at this point. Cut him, and give me the 3 million less we would owe him
