Nothing that has come out of the Eagles’ camp (credible sources) suggests they are going to cut Alshon this year.   If I’m wrong, please show me where the Eagles have said that.

I don't think they are going to cut Alshon at all.  I just think they should.

Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Fair enough.

what are my blogging buddies hearing about the upcoming season in regards to covid-19?  business as usual?  games in empty stadiums?  games in empty, neutral site locations?  what it is?

What does that have to do with you’re opinion on what they should do?  Show me a credible source that the Eagles we’re going to draft a QB in the 2nd round.   Again.  What does that have to do with anything?   It would be wise to rid themselves of him ASAP.  If you need to eat the money now.  So be it.  It’s not like they are going to use it to sign someone else.

Even if they wanted to cut him now (I don’t think they do, btw), how does it even make sense from a salary cap perspective to take the entire hit this year vs taking some of it next year (when the cap will be higher) if they keep him this year?

No season.  That’s my guess.  And I base that solely on the NFLPA pushing back because of player safety.

How many NFL players can afford not to play? I’m sure a majority of players will push to play. They need the money.

I posted an article yesterday about Miami's plan for fans in the stands.

Will have about 15000 in their 65k capacity stadium.

Scheduled arrival times at different entrances.

Order food from you seat only leave to ho pick it up.

I'm all for trying to make it work, but I increasingly see this as a binary option.  Either no fans or just open up the floodgates.

15-20k people are still a mass gathering.  You know they'll still sell alcohol, which literally combats social distancing and contact precautions.  You'll still have 1,000s of people sharing public restrooms.  If we aren't ready for capacity stadiums, then we really aren't ready for this either.

If someone wants to make an argument that life needs to go on and it must start with this...maybe I'd buy it, maybe not.  But if 65k drunken congregating fans are not OK, then neither are 15k jumping through all these spacing hoops.

Asante’s kid is already a senior at FSU now too. Time is flyin

I would suspect that, baring a WR injury or JJAW tanking or being traded, that the greatest likelihood is the Eagles never move Jeffrey from PUP this offseason and he starts the season on PUP.   Six weeks in, the Eagles make a decision as to whether to practice him.  That will be driven in large part by his level of recovery.  They have an option then to either IR him, play him or trade him.  That option will be driven by team need.  Injuries could play a part, both for us and potential trade partners.  Performance of the other players may also factor into any decisions

The $15 million this year is a sunk cost. They are paying it no matter what.  Current salary cap and cap plans for next year will factor into the decisions considered. While it won’t impact the Eagles cap needs at the start of the 2021 league year, designating Jeffery as a 2021 June 1st cut would spread that $10.5 million over two years, I believe, and offer an influx of $5.25 million in June 2021 to the cap.

Cutting Jeffery this year as a June 1st cut this year doesn’t make great business sense to me based on my understanding of all things.

As far as a sensationalized couple of articles, BFD. Sincerely doubt it has any impact on the Eagles decision as to Jeffery.  Number one, never overlook the nature of 21st century media presentations. Probably a degree of truth behind that, as Carson acknowledged.  Maybe the team saw the calming influence of McCown on the locker room on Carson and the impact of impending parenthood.  He touched on that in the interview and specifically mentioned BG.  One wonders about the evaluation of Hurts and his locker room reputation and the chemistry they expect from all of these factors in the QB room this year.  First time that Wentz is the senior guy in the room.

As to Jeffery is "done”.  Maybe.  Lis franc toasted Duce.  Jump balls are a big part of his game.  But what if the Jeffery was really impacted by the calf injury last year and then a foot from that.  Just coming back from that in the Miami game and hurts his foot.  Maybe done, maybe not.  What if he fully recovers?  That is going to determine his value to the Eagles or other teams and will be a factor in decisions.

That mamaluke will retire after this year.  If he makes it.  He's done.

People have been saying that about Gore for years. I will believe it, when I see it.

BTW, if Gore makes the HOF, it will be driven by longevity.  He has been a good RB but I am not convinced he was ever a top 5 RB any of his years in the league.

Gotta think Gore would be pretty close to claiming 2nd all time rushing if he really played 3 more seasons.  599 yards this past year.  Adam Gase loves him, who knows?  That would be quite a career and for the endurance and longevity alone at such a position that typically chews up and spits out players I'd certainly see him as HoF worthy.

This Jeffery discussion has been kicked around a fair bit, but the draft hinted towards him not being a part of the plans IMO.  My assumption has always been he'll be on PUP at least the first half of next season and the Eagles will likely just leave him as non-active the remainder of the year, unless something ridiculous like last season happens with the WR group and the team is desperate for anyone who can fill a uniform.

I believe both Reagor and Hightower are active on game days in 2020, so the Eagles will have Jackson, Reagor, Ward, JJAW, Hightower, and one of Goodwin/Watkins coming out of camp.  If JJAW flames out again in 2020 it's possible the Eagles will see a need for Jeffery as a big-body WR, but if the offense is moving the ball and scoring with the younger, faster guys I doubt there will be much impetus to get him on the field.

Add into the mix that if we basically stash him this year, since a trade is extremely unlikely as Howie would rather keep the draft capital than trading what it would take for a team to take on Alshon's pay this year, he might be more trade-able and definitely more cut-able next year. I definitely think we see PUP for the first part with the outside possibility of an early IR designation if he can't do much in preseason. That keeps him out of the huddle on game days and he can just be a cheerleader, basically.

Any chance Malik starts at DE over Barnett?

Do we have the space under the cap this year?

We do but...

A.  Based on our injury history, wouldn’t it be wise to save some of it for possible free agent signings and/or trades in case key players go down?

....and....

B. Based on what next year’s cap situation looks like, wouldn’t it be wise to roll some of it over, if we can?

His best year was 06 and he was 9th in the League in rushing: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2006/rushing.htm#rushing_and_receiving::rush_yds  He was 4th in the League in yards from scrimmage that season.  I always felt like his game best compares with Emmitt Smith.  His  ypa are about the same.  Emmitt just had far more attempts in his 14 seasons.  He had about 1000 more attempts than Gore in the same amount of career games.

Do you take a $6 mil cap hit to replace Rodney with Hooker next year?

Finally had time to look up his contract number.

Seems a bit steep considering the may have dead money from Alshon on top of it.

Maybe they bring Hooker in for a year to replace Rodney the year after?

I'm salivating at a Hooker Wallace tandem.

Even good rookies like Dallas can struggle lining up. It's hard playing in the NFL!
Also, this should tell us not to expect Reagor to get a 75% snap share early on unless he's primarily run fly routes.

That is one of the weakest 5 second clips from the Philly beat trying to prove a point.  He took 2 steps to the wrong side for the formation and Ertz pointed the other way.  I see nothing from Lane Johnson.  Why on Earth are they so hell bent on trying to find negatives in places they aren't.

Am I wrong for thinking this?
