Ward has some value as a deep reserve and special teamer, so I don’t want to completely bash the player. I just see a guy who had the easiest job on the field in terms of the routes he ran and how he was defended, and managed to not screw it up.

I don’t see much value in what he does as a receiver. Just about anyone could do what he did — except Agholor in mid-breakdown.

Yeah i think alot of fans need to prepare themselves for the possibility that he doesnt even make the team, If all 3 rookies come in and look decent + desean and JJAW and possibly goodwin..are we keeping 7 WRS? He seems like the most likely to go. Which some fans may call blasphemous.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Yup, and then proceeded to drop a wide open pass on the very next play

You know what was amazing about after that season there were some people that still killed wentz when the WRs sucked, Doug has some bad rookie coaching decisions/play calling and we were missing lane for 10 games. And i believe brooks missed a game or two with his anxiety issues. And the corners were still awful.

One part to remember in regards to Ward is what he had around him - a whole bunch of nothing.  I'm not saying he's an all pro or anything, but it was hardly like playing 3rd/4th WR for a team like the Texans or whoever and having a stud WR opposite you.

Andy had one WR coach.  Chip had one WR coach.  Doug has had 5 in 5 seasons.  It's becoming worse than Murphy Brown's secretaries.

1999-12: David Culley
2013-15: Bob Bicknell
2016: Greg Lewis
2017: Mike Groh
2018: Gunter Brewer
2019: Carson Walch
2020: Aaron Moorehead

Well... part of it was moving Groh to OC.  Groh was a really good WR coach... still is.  Just not a good OC.  And they couldn't move him back... shame.   I do have high hopes for Moorehead.

Now let's watch Howie flip Goodwin to the Jets for a 4th round pick after the pre-season.  Hightower and Watkins both make the team.

Do the Jets have anything at WR?

Perriman, Mims and Crowder.

So overpaid based on 1/2 season, potential bust, Jets version of Greg Ward.

Slot receivers have the easiest job of all WRs. They have two-way go’s and run high-percentage routes. Having DJax around helps everyone, no doubt, but it’s not like Ward is a vertical receiver who can split the safeties with regularity. Considering how we use our TEs, Ward is a bad fit with them. Any slot we have absolutely should be a vertical one, not a horizontal one.

Crowder is much better than Ward.

Jamison Crowder is really good in the slot. Perriman is a competent deep threat. Mims is a ???. They have no depth though.

So he basically did what justin jefferson did all last year in college???

Nah. I’m not willing to join you there...

Ward did what he was asked to do and at least produced something I suppose.  The coaches could trust him to run the right routes and catch it more often than not.  Let's see where he ends up!

So ward playing slot is easy but jefferson playing slot is...???

Cant have it both ways. Jefferson caught 95% of his passes from the slot so...

I like ward in the slot, hes not a world beater but not every WR on the team needs to be all pro.

Hes improved as a route runner, will be interesting to see if he can fend off the new comer receivers.

There was talk about putting watkins in the slot, hed definitely be a vertical threat from the slot.

Jefferson showed the ability to win vertically at least.

But I thought you were comparing Ward’s play in the slot to Jefferson’s.

Don't know about anyone else but this looks like a bit of fun...

Imagine this.

I don't know why he feels he needs to promote within. If a position coach is doing great then leave him be and hire from elsewhere

No jefferson is bigger and faster but that doesnt mean playing slot is any less easy.

Slots get free releases and have more space to operate, having said that i think ward is fine from the slot.

Having said that if eagles want more speed from slot ward isnt that guy.

The coaching thing is not a good excuse IMO. All of the practice squad-ers lined up just fine and produced at the end of the season. Boston Scott, Robert Davis, Deontay Burnett, Josh Perkins.

They dumbed down the offense at that point.  Perkins was experienced with the offense.  Scott was trained at one position. Second year for both. Year three for Ward. Further, Ward was a QB and used to knowing the routes for all positions. Davis in three games was targeted 3 times and caught one.  Burnett played one game and was targeted 4 times and caught two.  Further, neither Burnett nor Davis was asked to play multiple positions.  That said, for a seemingly intelligent guy, the confusion level for JJAW is a bit of a concern.

Good watch for fans of DL/OL play.

Thank you SO much!! I’m halfway through and Zack is putting on a clinic. What technique! The balance, hand and foot placement, and the patience, just great.

Did notice that Barnett got Tyron Smith a few times. And Dallas is really going to miss Frederick.

Watching Martin is like watching Joe Thomas. Just great technique.

I'm not against one or two innovative/trick plays but running this offense as a series of plays is just not a good idea.  Carson is a top 5 QB talent.  Keep the ball in his hands.  The offense will be better.

Agreed. It'll be fun to watch him with speed finally. No doubt he wants to throw bombs. One of these speedsters will be catching it. Hopefully Jackson stays healthy and Wentz builds chemistry with Jalen quickly. Both of them on the field will be great
