I wouldn't be so sure. I'm really thinking they might.

This scheme doesn't require an elite LB. Hasn't for years now. In a 4-3 scheme I don't see that it has the game changing impact. I'm not doubting that Murray or Queen would be major upgrades but they don't vastly change this defense and the direction of this team.

Exactly.  And the Eagles don’t even play a traditional 4-3 scheme in most packages.  In most packages, the Eagles have 2 linebackers on the field with 4 DB’s...and a hybrid safety/linebacker or a nickel back.   That’s why having a hybrid safety/linebacker of sorts is more important in this scheme than a traditional linebacker is.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Not coincidentally, Ross Tucker does color commentary for Eagles' PS games...

Has anyone without ties to the Philadelphia area actually made a big deal out of this?  Chao is the closest, but it seems he didn't come out and say it was a problem, just concerning.

It's a need because of limited numbers. It's a need because of lack of investment. But to me it just doesn't change this team much. There's not a real shift in direction by taking a LB. It is not a game changing position.

I think a really false narrative has been created about the need for LB's. I have been on this for the past three years. Watch the Super Bowl and playoffs again and study the 6-8 gains up the middle. The LB's are no where to be seen. Why do they keep giving up 3 and 8 conversions. It has been this way for years. The Eagles have a soft middle that has positionally been neglected for years.

How do I know this? I study the first 10-15 plays that the opposing team runs at the Eagles to begin the game. The first plays are usually scripted so the opposing team is explicitly showing the Eagles weaknesses on D. Almost every team's strategy has been the same for the past few years. it is a real problem. They attack the middle of the field with between the tackles running and using the TE to bring up the safety (Jenkins). Once they have forced the Eagles to adjust, they bring misdirection and go deep on the 1-1 coverages where the safety should have been. The scheming is not complicated.

The best LB the Eagles have had the last few years has been Jenkins and he is now gone. They have to find a S take his place and keep the scheme or they need a 3-down LB to allow the safeties to stay back. IMO they need 2 starting LB's right now! The only question is how willing are they to pull the trigger on an early pick.

This is where the false narrative comes in. "The Eagles don't need LB's. They're fine" "The Eagles devalue the position" This draft should finally answer these questions.

I’m getting the feeling the Eagles stay put at #21 and draft either Jefferson, Reagor, or Mims

I hope not. Think all 3 are overrated. If I had to take one, it’d be Reagor.

Testing

@Moderator12, I know you guys are working on this issue with tweet imbedding, thoughts ??

I think I found the potential root of the issue, but I may need VA's friends help.

Given that most people want the Eagles to draft 2 WR, who do folks want as the 2nd WR chosen?  I'm assuming this pick will come with one of the three 4th round picks.  My preference might be John Hightower, or Van Jefferson if he's still on the board in the 4th due to his foot issue discovered during Combine testing.

If for some reason the Eagles grab a WR late (5th/6th round) I would look for Quartney Davis or James Proche.

Like proche alot will have a long career in the slot

I was wondering yesterday why Belichick played so nicely in aiding Gronk get to TB. Turns out they don't have the cap space to roster Gronk, so their hand was forced to get rid of him anyway.

Quick, photoshop a picture of him with gang signs and a bong mask

Gronk did them kind of dirty. They would have gotten a 1st rounder from the Lions in 2018 but he threatened to retire and nixed that deal.

That would be a major fail.

In some ways Reagor makes sense; he supplies speed the Eagles lack, he’s a really good PR, and he could split snaps with Jackson right out of the box.  I think he’s versatile enough to play outside or slot

I just wanted to say, I am amazed at how quickly this came together, and how amazing it looks.  It IS the EMB!

@VaBeach_Eagle @Moderator12 @UK_EaglesFan89 and everyone else involved.  This place is just like that comfy seat... and I even found my butt imprint already.   Well done, gents!!!

Yep, I heard Gronk tell that story last night.

Gronk dictates where he goes, not Belichick.

So what kind of receiver do we think pairs best with Wentz? Big targets? Easy separators? Speed? All of the above?

One that can catch the ball

My WR rankings (as I think would be best fit for the Eagles)

1. Lamb

2. Jeudy

3. Ruggs

4. Hamler (yes he’s that good)

5. Higgins

6. Pittman jr.

7. Reagor

8. Aiyuk

9. Mims

10. Lynn Bowden

* I think Jefferson is good but a team with an elite and above average pass catching tight end doesn’t need a big slot receiver. Put him on the Packers or Saints then he’s worth a late 1st/early second.

I made it guys! Feels like home.

It’s simplistic to put it this way, but I think Wentz throws it "on a line” more than touch-pass or lofting it — IMO he’d pair best with a crisp route runner who’s going to be where Wentz expects him, rather than a guy who will just track it and get under it where it’s thrown

I'm just dying to see someone with speed that can track and catch the ball. The first Washington game was just a taste. There were also so many great highlights ruined by Agholor last year who had some speed but nothing else.

Adopting an avatar for the first time in 16 years. My favorite Birds receiver as a kid in the hopes that we get another great one at some point within the next three days!

That's an interesting question...

1 - He meshes great with Ertz... he's just a great route runner and a big target.

2 - He meshes great with Desean (for the limited amount we saw)... and he is a great route runner with elite speed.

So... who do we target?  Well, I like Jefferson who fits a little in the middle...  and then Aiyuk, who is more Desean.

Others will mention Higgins as more Ertz, or Reagor as more Desean.   It should be interesting to see.

Even with crap at DT, we had a top run defense last season.

It's a passing league.  Get help in the secondary.

We need even more help at LB.  Bradham's decline was a major problem last year, which is why they cut him loose.  With Nathan Geary as our best (only?) LB at this point, we're going to get destroyed by RBs and TE's in coverage.

Our secondary should be upgraded already w/the addition of Slay.

I’m a little concerned that Howie’s work-from-home setup is only slightly better than mine.

We need two kinds.  We need a volume catcher like JJ or Jeudy and a deep threat like Ruggs and others.

Jefferson and Aiyuk.   You are a genius!
