I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

The guy has earned about $17M over his career.

Let him worry about his money.

If we really try some cockamamie 2 an scheme, does that allow a defensive lineman to tee off on him?

Not sure.  Does this resemble spider 2 wide banana?  That was one of the best an schemes I've ever seen.

Nick Foles is the 2nd best playoff QB since 2006. 😎
Also, LOL at Andy Dalton and Woah at Kurt Warner.

Sorry to hear about that....

If ever traveling Italy again particularly Milan where risotto is best imo, try a dish called risotto con ossobuco, which is  risotto with braised veal

I used to make ossobuco all the time. Veal shank used to be a cheap cut but the word got out. Of late it’s hard to find and when you do it’s usually cut too thin and the bone marrow is often missing. With Covid, specialty cuts have pretty much disappeared.
I’ve had Ossobuco and risotto in Italy but never together. Bistecca alla Fiorentina in    Florence was memorable too. Very simple, but with great meat. We had it once in San Casciano in Val di Pesa where they brushed it with herbed butter while grilling. I was told by a Florentine that this is not traditional but we loved it.

So he’s netted maybe $8M...

Sure it’s his money, but we all hear about how athletes go broke. I just hope he has his finances in order.

I am eager to see how/if they implement this 2-QB offense.  Let's define a mismatch for a second.  Calvin Johnson on any CB is a mismatch.  Reggie White or JJ Watt in their prime lining up over a RT is a mismatch.  But that's not a schematic mismatch...it's just a talent mismatch with generational players.

Brian Westbrook motioning out to WR creates a mismatch.  Zach Ertz lining up at WR creates a mismatch.  These are skill set mismatches...and there is a fine line that can tilt the scales as to whether it benefits us or the defense.

Again, I'm not saying this will fail.  I'm just saying they need to address some problems.

Problem 1: So 2 QB's on the field, obviously, a rare mismatch.  Defenses are going to do everything they can to make Wentz and Hurts uncomfortable.  If Hurts is going to take a direct snap, take the ball outside the pocket and look downfield (as was schemed in that youtube clip), then you better believe defenses are going to send their fasted LB in pursuit to force Wentz to block him.  We don't want our franchise QB incorporating blitz pickup into his weekly skill set.

Problem 2: When Wentz is "off ball," to borrow a basketball term, he's not going to be doing anything.  That means the Eagles start the play with 10 men on the field with a direct snap to Hurts.

Problem 3: Spacing, another basketball term.  So we have a backfield with Wentz/Hurts lining up side by side, functionally in the same space.  They are both QBs.  Hurts may be very athletic, but he's not an NFL WR/RB weapon.  Is he willing and able to run the ball between the tackles with regularity and success?  If not, what is to stop a defense from treating a Wentz/Hurts backfield as an empty backfield?  Follow the snap and follow the QB with the ball.  And if we do grow Hurts into a true RB for this role, that's going to undercut his development as a QB.

4.  Seems unlikely that Hurts is ready to be the #2 QB for at least a quarter f the season or more.  If he isn’t #2, he is inactive.  I think there is a better chance of Ward throwing a pass than Hurts the first half of the season.  That said, if we see a player in the Wildcat, like that play to Ward, that player would likely be Hurts.

One of my strongest memories of the Snow Bowl is coming from Center City where it wasn't really snowing and going up the steps of the stadium SEPTA station and the almost child like reaction of all of the people as they saw the snow falling.  It was a magical feeling.

At the time he was picked, the expectation was Alshon was gone in 2020 and JJAW would be groomed to play the X. The fit became horrendous when Howie guaranteed Alshon’s 2020 salary.

Howie says two years for a WR to acclimate to the league.  I think tall receivers that can high point and shield with their bodies is what they see as an X.  I think they thought they had last year and this to train JJAW.  I think they prefer fleet WRs for the slot and had Agholor, albeit coming off a less than stellar 2018.  I think they saw Desean as the Z for more games than not for two seasons and knew they could target his replacement and possibly Agholor’s eventual replacement this year.  But their immediate back up Back Ups plan, Hollins and maybe even Gibson didn’t pan out. Not all plans work out.

I don't discount this.  I was just building a case.  Bowden doesn't save a roster spot though, as you'd still very much need a backup QB.   The argument could be made that you still need one with Hurts being a part of the 'core' offense.

I thought the league was going towards dressing 2 qbs on gameday, the Eagles just seem to always dress 3.  Could be wrong.

yup...meanwhile in Aptos, we just lost surfing for a bit since the guy got eaten just a beach away from me...we are only allowed on the sand to go in the water...so the place is empty...I saw too many seals up on the beach last week to keep my board on my patio...

You could be right, but with the new PS rule... they could dress 3 and the 3rd QB could be a PS player, technically.  At least, I think that's how it will work.   I'm not 100% on the new CBA rules.

I don't see Hurts as anything but a backup to start the season

Anything to justify blowing a second rounder.

I'll say one last thing to beat the Hurts horse, then I'd rather talk strategy about making it work.  They need to stop going off the grid in round 2.

2019, when we still knew the offense needed speed, they passed on vastly superior talents in Metcalf and Mclaurin just so that they could add another "above the rim" possession WR with udfa quality movement skills to a 2-TE offense that already featured a possession WR about to get extended.

2018, DJ Chark is on the board.  He's a WR cooked up in a lab.  The stacked 2020 WR class didn't feature a single WR with his combination of size, deep speed, acceleration, and overall movement talent.  We had a revolving door at the Z position and were about to entrust the position to a thoroughly over-the-hill and passed over Mike Wallace after leaving Torrey Smith for dead.  But we needed to draft a #2 TE behind Ertz to outsmart the rest of the NFL.

2017, many got on board with the Sidney Jones pick because of his pre-injury status, but the 2nd round was still much earlier than most expected him to go.  A non-qb with that kind of injury usually free-falls.  Again, outsmarting everyone else.

2020...well, we know what happened.

Maybe one of these years their wild ideas work out, but it's looking like it might be best to wait until later in the draft to invest in their crazy ideas.

Agree 100% and this is my gripe.  They seem to use Round 2 as a project round or a pick they can take a chance on.  Round 2 SHOULD be an impact starter in year 1.  Yes, we got Miles Sanders but as you said far too many times in recent years they take these fliers on guys.  The sucky thing is when other teams do it, a la Jaylon Smith, it ends up working out.

Also, I read a good article last night about DK Metcalf and how one of the best things he learned his rookie season was to sit down last during meetings.  Essentially saying in your rookie year, take in as much as you can and follow the lead of the veterans in the WR room.  Even if our young guys applied that mentality last year, who were they going to learn from?  DJack was in the training room.  Alshon, Nelson?  Shows me that he's more than a physical freak.  Man the Eagles really really effed that up.

I don’t think they saw JJAW as a project. Nor Goedert.

I posted a video of him earlier this week getting his Eagles gear and I mentioned he seemed like a good dude.  Really liking his attitude.  Helps to pull for someone like this.  Hope he comes in healthy and ready to burn.

No, not projects but drafting a back-up tight end in round 2 when you have a Pro Bowler in his prime in my opinion isn't the best use of resources.  To me, Round 1 and 2 should be immediate starters or in line to start within 2 years.  Goedert, as much as I like him was drafted knowing he is going to be a back-up.  I know 12 personnel.  So many other needs on the team at that time and they draft a guy to be a back-up

Well, in this country, we are innocent until proven guilty.  and $8M after the gov't takes their cut is still more than enough to buy a couple $200,000 cars and a $1M house for your mother.  It's not like he's blowing it on drugs.

I hope all athletes have their finances in order.  In fact, the first thing a guy should do after hiring an agent, is hire a financial planner.  Based on his career earnings, Goodwin is certainly in a potential position to be able to take care of his mother that way.  And it's a really nice gesture.  So, I'm not going to assume that he's blowing his money.  And no one else should either.   Warrick Dunn used to go out and buy houses for folks as part of his charitable work, and he was lauded for it.  Goodwin does this for his own mother, and the first thought to you was that he's wasting his money?    I don't get it.   He did a nice thing for his mom.

I disagree. You don’t draft for need with high picks. You draft players who you believe will be most successful in the NFL. If there happens to be one of those in the same tier at a position of need then you take him, but Goedert is definitely worth his selection.

No, I even mentioned that in my previous post, I gave them credit for Miles Sanders.  The original post from @eagle45 was discussing the misuse of 2nd round picks.

Below is my original quote.

I thought it was just because there's been so many injuries over the years. They've had horrible luck
