I agree.  People are just grasping at straws to defend recent drafts.

Nah.  People are so upset with some picks that they irrationally knock any pick that's not a Pro Bowler.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I don't actually disagree here. I think the talent and potential is there. I think he could be a top 3 TE in this league but right now he's not being utilised in this offense as we'd hope. And so it's potential rather than current reality.

Let's not get too excited now. He has the potential to be in the top 10 I think but I just don't see him getting to that Kelce/Kittle level. Or even the Mark Andrews/Austin Hoooper/Jared Cook tier which would be in that top 3 range.

Yup. Anyone making an argument against Dallas Goedert is just someone looking to make an argument.

He's already a better player than Brent Celek was. It's a heckuva second round pick.

I was never arguing against Dallas Goedert, it was based more off the number of picks they had vs need and players already on the team.  The main point was outside of a few outliers, the Eagles as of recent have taken a dump in the 2nd round.

He's already a top 10 TE.

Blocking doesn't really matter at WR, but it really matters at TE.

He's on the cusp, another year like last year and he's firmly in in my opinion.

Especially as they use him.  He's the "inline" TE, and Ertz is the move TE.  Frankly there's no better TE in the NFL in terms of all around game.  He's the best blocker out of the top receiving threats, and he's leaps and bounds better as a receiver than the guys who are considered "blocking" TEs.  He doesn't get great stats for himself, he merely gets very good stats for himself.  But his contributions also lead to RB stats.

Really?  6th in the league in receptions over the last 11 weeks of the year (among TEs).  53 receptions for Goedert, 59 for Ertz.

Is that so? Blimey I didn't realise that... How many yards did he finish with then?

I'd love to hear 10 different names who are clearly better.  I think you might get to about 7 or 8 before you start really struggling for names.

There are only 2 inline TEs in the NFL there are clearly better (Kelce, Kittle). If you think Waller is better, then that's 3.
The rest are flex TEs like Ertz. So Goedert would be the best in-line TE on 29/32 teams.

On the season, 58 receptions 607 yards 5 TDs, 33 First downs.

Last 11 games: 53 receptions, 564 yards, 4 TDs.  Don't know the first down breakdowns.

Dallas game in December that basically won the division for the Eagles:  9 rec, 91 yards, 1 TD.  Ertz 4 rec 28 yards, 0 TDs.

But then he isn't averaging as many yards per catch as Ertz then?

Kelce is not an 'inline' TE.  He's a flex.  Kittles is as close as it comes to Goedert as a blocker/receiver.  I give the nod to Goedert as a blocker, clearly to Kittle as a receiver.

On the contrary.  Goedert 10.5, Ertz 10.4 on the season.   The difference in their stats was the first 5 games.  Goedert got off to a sluggish first 5 games.  Ertz did not.  But, basically from that point on, they were nearly identical statistically... slight edge to Ertz.

Kelce played the majority of his snaps tight to the formation.

Kelce is a top 2 TE, so he's able to do both.

I used to make ossobuco all the time. Veal shank used to be a cheap cut but the word got out. Of late it’s hard to find and when you do it’s usually cut too thin and the bone marrow is often missing. With Covid, specialty cuts have pretty much disappeared.
I’ve had Ossobuco and risotto in Italy but never together. Bistecca alla Fiorentina in    Florence was memorable too. Very simple, but with great meat. We had it once in San Casciano in Val di Pesa where they brushed it with herbed butter while grilling. I was told by a Florentine that this is not traditional but we loved it.

Nuance, often overlooked but so rewarding...

Lining up there and being used there as a blocker are not the same thing.   How often is Kelce kept in for pass pro as a 6th blocker?

One of my strongest memories of the Snow Bowl is coming from Center City where it wasn't really snowing and going up the steps of the stadium SEPTA station and the almost child like reaction of all of the people as they saw the snow falling.  It was a magical feeling.

Left my house at the Shore with my Brother, it was just cloudy. Started snowing as we made our way up the Expressway.

By the time we pulled into the Linc an hour and a half later there was 6"on the ground and no sign of letting up.

During the game we had to periodically push the snow down behind the seats in front of us just to have a place to stand.

Watching McCoy tear it up was a delight. Capper was Celek doing the slide into second base and disappearing under the snow to end it.

Magical indeed.

As time goes by, has anyone’s opinion on keeping Jeffery changed at all?

Looking at our roster, who is the best bet to play X? I’m very high on Reagor, and think he could develop into a player that can play all WR positions, but not sure having him focus on X is the best idea. I think eventually he’ll be someone who we can move around and creat matchup issues, but if he’s going to be dedicated to a position Z or slot are better fits. Don’t think you can pencil in Hightower or Watkins to do too much year 1. Goodwin is an interesting candidate, and JJAW will see time there but don’t see him as a reliable target. It almost appears that a platoon will be the approach there. But Jeffery could provide stability there if he can be healthy midseason. It doesn’t seem like a bad option on paper.

On paper?  Not a bad option.

In the locker room?  On Twitter (with Josina there to carry all his gripes and backstabbings to the masses)?   There it seems like a much worse option.

Yeah that’s the risk. I hope it’s been beat into his head that this behavior has to stop.

Why would that message have been the one he received?   He's getting paid either way.  He's got a Super Bowl under his belt and the Super Bowl was won without Carson on the field, but he was.  So, in his head, he's the more important piece.    Some people struggle to see themselves for what they really are, versus what the people directly around them tell them that they are.

I could be wrong, but wasn’t there a supposed confrontation by Kelce? Since then nothing has come out.

I know it’s a big if, but if Alshon can get accustomed to being eased into action and not being a focal point of the offense there would be a spot for him. His skillset isn’t redundant

The Eagles keep saying that there is no issue so I'm sticking with that. If Alshon is healthy let him compete for the spot but as always may the best man win

His comments have always come when the team is struggling.  If the team is doing well, I don't think we will see it.  If the team is struggling we are going to see these kinds of stories about Carson and the team no matter who is in the locker room.
