Kittle is a better finisher but goedert is right up there with him in run blocking.

I’m not knocking Goedert at all. I think Kittle is just incredible.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

One of the Eagles beat writers did a 2017 draft do-over.  It's painful to look at and see that the Eagles could have had him in the 4th.  Hindsight is 20/20.  They take Kittle in the 4th in 2017 you don't have to take Goedert in 2018.

Kittle just has that I'm a bigger, stronger, faster, meaner man than you and I'm going to dominate you on every snap attitude.  Nasty nasty player.

Indeed. Love watching him play.

Kittle is an animal. Best TE in the NFL IMO. I truly believe goedert has the ability to be in that conversation. It wont happen until he is a starter (hopefully here) but the talent is there. I know he and ertz average around the same yards per catch, but i think goedert would be a 13-15 ypr guy if the majority of his receptions weren't screen passes 5 yards behind the LOS. Im excited to see what the extra space from the added speed does for our TE's this season.

"Zach Ertz is Philly’s number one tight end, but Dallas Goedert has been just as good, earning an 81.4 PFF grade that ranks seventh at the position. He isn’t a deep threat, but he is dangerous after the catch and has enhanced a short-passing offense. On targets of less than 10 yards downfield, Goedert is PFF’s third-highest-graded tight end, and he is second in yards after the catch per reception at 8.6. Not to mention, he has earned a run-blocking grade of 83.5, the best mark among all tight ends."

It sounds silly to say but having Ertz on the team is keeping us from seeing DG's full potential.  Love what Ertz has brought to this team and this city but I'm excited to see what DG will be able to do if he ever gets the #1 role.

I wonder how accurate gps data is for these trackers.  If it is accurate, it makes the combine nothing more than a show for media.

I'd assume very accurate.  We use tools like this in my classroom all the time.

I'm not sure who said Goedert was a bad pick.  No one is saying that.  It's the people who are using the Goedert pick as a defense of Howie as a drafter.  That's silly.  I think Goedert should be used more.  At this point, it was kind of a wasted pick if they don't use him more.  And yes, I am one of those guys who thinks he can be better than Ertz.

He was on the field 2/3 of the snaps last year.  That's more than Sanders.  He could be used even more moving forward... we'll see.

Goedert is routinely tasked with blocking a DE. I'm sure Kittle is too; I just haven't seen him enough to be sure. Kelce is not.

He’s going to be a star... eventually.

This is the year for the two TE set to put up or shut up so to speak. We should have plenty of speed on the field to clear space for them to operate.

Between Reagor, Goodwin and DJax, we should be able to have two speed threats on the field most of the time if we want to.

I think that’s the key to unlocking an offense based around two TEs.

I dont think it sounds silly at all. The bottom line is we spent a 2nd+5th rd pick on a younger TE in goedert who has more god given size/athleticism than ertz. There are certain plays, such as the 75 yard TD that was called back on a phantom PI, that ertz just isnt physically capable of pulling off. Goedert could be a force in the middle of the field but the majority of his targets are screen passes. I think he would thrive in a starting role. Not to mention, our run game in 11 personnel would probably improve/be less predictable with goedert out there instead of ertz.

Ertz has better hands and does a better job getting separation than Goedert.  I think you underrate Ertz as a receiver.

What’s the point of doing a "do-over” of previous drafts?  That is the ultimate in dope-ery.

Man, am I pissed we didn’t get Dan Marino and Jerry Rice 😡

Again, I would not change a single decision made before February 4th, 2018.

Let's say we did draft Kittle...and he potentially pushes Burton off the roster...who makes the block on Blount's TD against the Falcons or throws the Philly Special?

Yeah, me too.  And Joe Montana, he went in the 3rd round for Pete's sake!  We took Tony Franklin, the barefoot wonder 8 spots before Joe was picked!  Of course, we had the Polish Rifle at QB, backed up by John Walton,  so QB wasn't a need.

I'll do it.

I agree with this. Goedert is a great run blocker, but I think Kittle is just straight up incredible and by far and away the best TE in the league. That said, I'm willing to admit Kittle probably makes the more flashy 2nd level blocks and Goedert I'm underrating his consistency and dependability. He owned the Packers

Yeah. If we do "do-over" drafts, we ain't getting Brian Westbrook, LeSean McCoy, or DeSean Jackson.

And the idea that if we could re-do the '17 draft, we could get Kittle in the fourth round? Umm...I think he'd have been picked in the first round by someone else, so it's just a silly argument.

I certainly do not thin Goedert is a bad player and looks like he has more potential that Ertz, but I do feel the move to draft his wasn’t as much of a need as say going after a starter quality position. It feels like the Eagles have used a lot of early round picks on backups or developmental type players. Most of the time you expect these guys to start, but we see a lot more Sidney Jones, Dillard, and JJAW type picks on a roster that clearly has holes. Why pick a developmental wide receiver in the first round when you have two starting receivers with injury problems and for three years every deep threat the team brought in failed?

That's fair. What goedert lacks in route running, he makes up for in length/athleticism. I think you're underrating goedert's hands & ability as a receiver. He had an 81% catch rate coming out of SDSU. In 2018, goedert had the best catch % on the team. He had some bad drops last season but so did ertz. They both had 5. We're also comparing a 2nd year player to a 7th year player. Goedert is a better overall player going into his third year than ertz was. I firmly believe he'd be right up there in production with ertz ,kittle, kelce, waller & andrews had he been on a different team this past season.

Ok.  I am pretty sure no one is celebrating that a 2nd round pick being used as a blocking TE is a great use of resources.

Yeah... cause that's what he is.

No.  Only the Eagles would get to do it over.

I would be surprised if Kittle lasts more than a few years in the league; his style is so full on and he is already feeling it. He's maximised his talent and has to hope he can earn that second contract.  That said, a player you want on your team.

23 minutes ago, Iggles_Phan said:

He was 12th in receiving yards per game at TE last year. Some people don’t care about facts. They just want to complain.

We know why we drafted him.

I assumed as the eventual replacement for Jeffery, but that’s kind of my issue with the Eagles drafting process. They leave holes on the roster to draft some developmental guy for the future. To me those are picks you make in the latter rounds. You don’t do that in the 1st or 2nd round.
