Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Kittle is a better finisher but goedert is right up there with him in run blocking.

Let me know when Kittle takes on Khalil Mack in his rookie year.

How many players on this list are better than Goedert? Kirk? Maybe, but if we want to be a TE-centric offense he’s a little clunky as a fit and he was off the board anyway. Chark? Based on his 2019, I’d say he’s more valuable than Goedert. Jesse Bates? I think he’s a pretty good player. Brian O’Neill? He would have been a backup for two seasons.

The rest? Nah.

I wonder if teams will rely on college programs’ word on these numbers for non-Senior Bowl participants.

Joe Banner was recently saying the TE market needs to be reset, as in they are underpaid compared to other positions. There could be added value financially in having two top players at that position. I'd bet they look to extend Goedert this year; whether he bites or not is up to him but would make a ton of sense from the team's perspective.

Do-over mock drafts serve one purpose, to give fans something to talk about and writers something to write about in the off-season. They all usually crop up around this time as well.

He was 12th in receiving yards per game at TE last year. Some people don’t care about facts. They just want to complain.

He was 6th in receptions over the last 2/3 of the season.

I assumed as the eventual replacement for Jeffery, but that’s kind of my issue with the Eagles drafting process. They leave holes on the roster to draft some developmental guy for the future. To me those are picks you make in the latter rounds. You don’t do that in the 1st or 2nd round.

Howie has been treating the second round as a flyer round for the past several years. Hurts, JJAW, Jones, Goedert to a degree. None of these guys did or will contribute significantly (barring injury) in their first year. Maybe and hopefully beyond that for Hurts.

I think the information may fall under an education record as defined by FERPA.  I think that means teams would need permission from the players  to obtain the data from colleges.  I would think the colleges would want to be as accurate as possible for NFL teams.

To me it’s just Howie and the Eagles trying to show they’re better and smarter than everyone else. It would be nice to see them select more complete players who are ready to contribute sooner. That way he doesn’t have to keep making these trades or constantly dipping into free agency to fill out a roster.

How did he do that when he was blocking the whole time?

World class multi-tasking.

I cringe about the long-term impacts on the NFL if fans can't attend games in 2020 and/or if games get cancelled. Schefter said there's a possibility the cap could drop $30-$80 million next season.

The Eagles, who are already projected to be over by $50 million next season would get absolutely slammed if the cap drops next season.

I know it's down the road, so it's out of sight out of mind, but it's something to keep in the back of your mind. There is a possibility that the cap situation in sports is drastically changed for the foreseeable future due to the virus and teams may have to release really good players just to meet the new cap limitations. I'm sure the NFL would add amnesty clauses and such so you wouldn't have "cap hits" but depending on how things go, the Eagles could potentially start having to release players next season that they wouldn't want to. As well as other teams.

Truly interesting and scary times ahead for sports the next couple years.

No doubt the Eagles added some speed this year.    They also added some talent in the Strength and Conditioning coaching.  Wonder how that is working virtually.

Yep. With the dreck we had at WR last year, Ertz became our #1, Since Ertz had to get into patterns on every play, Goedert had to do a lot of blocking. He still put up good numbers, despite the heavier than normal double duty.

And,

He played hard all the time.

Love the guy. Not as nuanced as Ertz in the passing game, but getting there.

And,

A good soldier. The whiners are here and among the beat writers. Not him.

With video I would guess

S heftier has been way off his game lately. He was talking about the draft was going to be held when they’re "bodies on the streets” and then he said the Eagles were drafting Hurts because of the Virus. There’s no way the NFLPA will allow the cap to drop by 80 mil. No team will even be able to sign their players. It’s way too early for anyone to predict any of this stuff. As of right now the NFL is proceeding with the expectations of having games. No need to worry until something else changes.

So I moved out to the sticks in Montana and have no service where I currently live. Thanks for keeping up the good work, boys. Still fun to come through and skim when I come into town. My emotional arse will be back in a couple months when I move to Livingston.

Well, having games with no fans will be a far smaller impact financially than having no games and no fans.   They get the lion share of their money from the TV contracts, and the TV contracts are fulfilled with football games with fans or no fans in the stands.  AND... if there are no fans in the stands, then they get a larger number of eyes on their broadcasts.  The TV companies will absolutely charge more for advertising for those games, and the NFL can initiate an addendum to their contract with the TV companies to pay a little more to meet some of the short fall.  And the NFLPA could even give up a bit of their salaries... yes, it would be unprecedented, but I keep hearing that every thing is.   There could be a 10% drop in annual salary for every player, except for the players at the league minimum already.  (I'm just throwing the number out there, whatever... )  NFLPA loses a little money, owners lose some money, fans lose being in the stands, teams lose 'home field advantage'... But, hey, "We're all in this together."

You took this social distancing thing to an extreme.  They are suggesting only 6-12 feet between people, not 6-12 acres per person.

I don’t think this all could be gone by September,  but it’s still so early, and now people are talking about cap implications for 2021. No point in getting riled up over maybe something happens. There’s no guarantee the 2020 season gets played.

Definitely far too early to worry about things.  But, we need folks to relax on the doom and gloom for 2021.

Best to take it one step at a time. For now we are expecting a season for 2020. That’s at least something.

Just more reason to cut Alshon now so we don’t pay him >$10m next year.

The league has to have some kind of contingency plan put in place so teams and players don’t get completely hammered.   Players union isn’t  going to stand for players getting released because of corona.   They’ll have to figure something out.

also the plan has always been to release a bunch of guys after this season anyway.
