I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Back to sports and the pandemic.

I live in Baltimore and absolutely love Camden Yards. Going to games is so much fun and since the Os suck you can pay $15 for a ticket and move down to the lower level.

That being said I couldn’t tell the last time I watched a full baseball game on TV. No offense but baseball is so boring. With each generation comes less and less interest in baseball. I barely watch MNF anymore let alone prime time baseball.

Of our major professional sports, I think baseball will be the first to fade into the abyss. I’ll honestly be shocked if MLB is around in 50 years.

Baseball is boring but only when it comes to the regular season.  Once the playoffs start it is high level entertainment to me.  I cant take my eyes off it.

Basketball regular season is starting to be less and less appealing to me, ncaa and NBA.  I used to love NBA games. They are just too drawn out and not exciting.  Wake me when the playoffs/ncaa tourney starts.

It's why football is king.  There's only so many games so every game is important and meaningful.

With baseball- I’ll find myself at the all star break having no clue who is even good. It’s talked about less and less on any sports show. There’s also tons of teams who can’t even sell out games when they’re good. Maybe baseball needs to move to smaller markets so there’s more of a novelty to it? Idk...

Every sports regular season is too long. To me, even football is getting bad. Particularly Monday night games. Idk if it’s espn or what.

I think this pandemic showed we may need less sports.

Unless they make it mandatory for every single citizen to get a vaccine there is absolutely no reason to wait for a vaccine for anything.

The flu vaccine, which not everyone gets is only 45% effective according to the CDC website.  45%!!  Think about that for a minute.  Let it sink in when you listen to people say we can't open the country back up until there is a vaccine.

Can confirm. Got the flu shot last year and still got the flu. I'm not an anti-vaxxer, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hesitant to get a COVID vaccine that was fast-tracked/rushed and not having gone through the standard protocols.

Regarding baseball.  It's a great social summer event.  Take some buddies, have lots of beer eat lots of food and catch a game.  If it gets exciting great.  If not, still in the sunshine enjoying your buddies, the sights, sounds and enjoyment of a game.

If you luck in to a good game it can be very exciting.  I've been to games where I can admit I've dozed off in the outfield stands during a HOT summer game but I've also witnessed a no-hitter which has you on the edge of your seat.

Also, for those of us lucky enough to have our dads with us or maybe kids of your own, it's just a great bonding experience for a father and son.

No offense.  But I’m not going to theorize  on a topic that can easily spiral into a political flashpoint.  Not in here.  All I’ll say, is no one knows ish.

Okie doke.

No idea how that could become political, but all gravy.

I just figured they would have had an agreement in play with the "digital" off-season as that is what it would be for everyone until all teams had facilities available.

I'm not getting into the states choice to open or not, just the view of the league in trying to keep everything fair to limit competitive advantage is all.

MLB used to be so much better 30-35 years ago.  Lots of stolen bases, putting pressure on the defense, stringing hits together to score runs, solid fundamentals, and outfielders who could throw out runners at home plate.  Since the steroid era everyone just swings from the shoe tops and doesn’t care how often they strike out.  It’s home run or nothing.

The analytics zombies have taken over the sport, and now we’re stuck with starting pitchers going 4 innings, the ridiculous shifts in the infield (and even more ridiculous inability of major league hitters to beat the shift), and 4+ hour games.  Other than 2017 the USA had been getting whitewashed at the World Baseball Classic because other nations are still playing baseball the proper way.

If you knew any of the players you’d probably be more entertained watching a baseball game between Japan and Korea tbh

Jared Dudley expressed concern about that a couple of weeks ago. Isn’t the NBA limiting it to individual workouts for now?

I listened to Peter King yesterday and he was saying that this may be a year where fans/teams will have to get over the competitive advantage idea. He was basically saying that there may be teams who live in states that open up earlier than teams that live in other states and if that happens, it is what it is. Just be thankful there will be sports playing and take what we can get and reset for 2021.

This x 1000. I love baseball and grew up on it but even I'm starting to wonder where the game will be in 30 years. Will it still be here? I used to love watching guys like Rickey Henderson and Vince Coleman swipe 80+ bags a year and bunt for base hits. Those guys literally wrecked havoc on the defense, especially pitchers. Unfortunately when guys like Scherzer and Verlander retire, we probably have seen the last of guys that can or will pitch complete games. It's all about pitch counts and bullpen match ups now.  Heck, maybe I'll start watching the Korean baseball league on ESPN.

Don’t even get me started on how the NHL game has been ruined .....

I don't know, I love the speed of the game now but I certainly miss the hard hitting that was allowed in the past. Heck, if Lindros played in this era, he would easily be scoring 50-60 goals a year.

I actually hate the nhl for changing its playoff format more than the style of play. Don’t get me wrong i miss the the big hits and that type of hockey but the new playoff format was done to create more rivalry series. But it’s better when it happens naturally and there’s years where the second round matchup like caps vs. Penguins happens a round too soon. Or Tampa and Boston might have the most points in the East and play each other in round two instead of potentially ECf

I am not sure.

This is the first I've heard of that situation so your guess is better than mine.

But the flu vaccine is not a full flu vaccine. They make a prediction based on analysis of what the major strands of flu will be that season and make a vaccine for a number of them. Generally, if you still get the flu, it's a strain you weren't given the vaccine for. How the COVID vaccine works is going to be dependent on how many strains there are and how it mutates over the time of study. I am not a medical guy, but I am an analytical guy and have done some research into this, specifically because I had questions such as these.

I downright loathe the new NHL  playoff format. Seed the teams 1-8 and play it 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5. The way they do it now is stupid and in a way complicates something that should be simple.

Ill watch baseball when i want to take a nap, but i agree the playoffs are more exciting.

Used to love watching NBA but the lack of defense is boring, every team is the phoenix suns now, every posession is a fast break that ends in a 3 pointer or a Dunk/layup.

Defense is non existent as end scores are always 120 plus every game. Its a joke.

Nascar is just another venue for hick cowboy fans to showup without any clothes on and drink copious amounts of alcohol.

Hockey is fun to go to hard to follow on T.V.

NFL is where its at and All Blacks Rugby!!!

You took that chick from accounting, didn't you? Buddies and bonding.  Pffftt….

Seriously though, I think baseball is the best live experience of sports, perhaps because the game is slow and there are lots of distractions.  Sights, sounds, food, people, and the game itself, especially if you can treat yourself to the crazy good seats.

Pre SB52, I was too tense at Eagles football games, later in life, to fully enjoy it like I did when traveling with the guys. Although the 2017 game out here in LA was the best game I ever went to, across all sports and spanning many years in many cities.

Hockey is the game with the biggest difference from watching on tv to live.  Even with high def 5k etc....still not like being there. But pretty much all about the game.

not outside though. bit question mark that so far doesnt look good out there.

Prince would have been a great get at this point. Provides outside depth even if he would have gotten beaten out at CB 2, which I don’t think would of happened.  Whatever, I’m just really over this off-season.
