To take a 20,000' view for a second...

I think there are a few different types of teams in the NFL.  There are the elite contenders, teams that are hanging on and managing their aging/decline, teams that are in transition, and teams that are rebuilding.

The Eagles, IMO, are a team in transition.  That's not as bad as it sounds.  I think the Eagles entered 2017 as a team in transition.  A rebuilding team has so many questions and talent problems that you KNOW, heading into the season, that they lack the talent and reasonable opportunity to answer those questions.  The true elite are just stacked and have very few unknowns.  A transitioning team (our Eagles) has a lot of questions, but does have the youthful talent to potentially answer all of them.  WR/LB/DB/LT...young talented personnel are there.  May work out, may not.  Statistically, it's a lot of questions and the odds aren't ideal that it all shakes out perfectly.  But the answers may be there already.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I never want to insult anyone on the blog, unless they really piss me off.  That's the only time discussion goes bad here.

But I agree about the Spadaro comment.  His content is either generic meaningless fluff, at best, or deliberate misdirection from the truth to dispel rumors or provide smokescreen.

Going to Spadaro for Eagles insight is like asking a blind person to give you a tour of an art museum.

I tried to do Eagles Reddit several times and it Fing blows. Group think is pushed to the top while any dissention is pushed out or ignored. The posting format sucks.  The discussion isn't nearly as insightful. People report each other for the tiniest thing. I'll take inside jokes and some hurt feelings over that BS all day.

Frankly couldn't care less about how great an interview with an Eagles media mouthpiece went. Eagles Reddit is garbage.

100% agree with this.  The worst social media platform to navigate.

Reddit is great for discussion.   I’ve seen more honest answers out of Dave in one edition of his "AMA” on reddit than I have in 20 years of "Ask Dave” on TATE.

times change for the better.  I used to be here every day for years.   The Eagles message board was great for what it was in like 2004, but it fell behind.   It happens.

Own stock in reddit?

Who do you think the truly elite teams are?  In the past I would have said the Patriots, Steelers, Saints, Eagles the Seahawks.

What are the Patriots going to be without Tom Brady?

The Steelers are in my opinion a team in transition like the Eagles.  The Eagles have one up on them as we have Wentz.  The Steelers have a better defense to build around

The Saints have one more year with Brees

The Seahawks are still the Seahawks

The Chiefs and 49ers are close to becoming elite teams.

Could be seems kinda weird just to come in here mid blog when no one is talking about reddit and yack about irrational hatred of it. Why would the clown care anyways?

Reddit is difficult for beginners, but once you get it down it’s not too bad. I personally like both platforms.

The problem reddit has is the official app sucks.

lol at that being what you concentrated on from what I posted.

the insults I'm getting doesn't surprise me.    you all shouldn't take it so personal.   it's like a bunch of old grumpy men who can't handle change.

why can't you guys just admit you're a bunch of dorks who feel "cool" on this message board.   You have the most posts,  you have the inside jokes with one another and it makes you feel good.     and deep down it annoys you that a place like reddit has become much more relevant/lively when it comes to Eagles discussion on the internet.

the idea that "group think" doesn't exist on this board and it's only a reddit problem is silly.  come on now.

I'll still come here,  I still like it here.   But it's just not what it used to be.   Official team message boards used to be the only source of discussion on the internet.   that's not the case anymore.    except for extremeskins.  somehow that place has lasted the test of time.

The insults don't surprise us either Dave. I'm just fine here so don't lose too much sleep over it.

Lets get past this discussion and take a look at a great draft pick.

Message boards are slowly dying, but that doesn’t make them irrelevant or unnecessary today or in the near future.

A close friend of mine, who happened to be blind, was a historian who would often give tours of various historical sites. I'd help him navigate from spot to spot, and once he knew where he was, he'd "point out" things to the crowd, usually school children.

I understand your analogy though.

I use it for other reasons so it's not an issue with familiarity with the format.  It's that the format/setting is really poor at facilitating conversation IMO.  If people like it good for them, but I've given it more than its fair shot and dislike it.

Teams or franchises?  Elite franchises will have so-so teams for a year or two.

IMO, the the first key is to have a solid combination of front office, head coach, and QB.  The other is to have a clear team philosophy to help optimize talent acquisition.

Also, where do you put the Ravens?

I'd say the Steelers are in the "hanging on" category.  Chiefs are elite.  Conventional wisdom has the 49ers as elite, but I suspect they may take a step back.  Saints are elite, for now.  They are right there at the end every single year and we never even have a chance to beat them.  Seahawks are a cut above us.

I think we are entering a season where the Chiefs are the only consensus elite team, followed be several flawed contenders.  I think they'll make a legitimate run at 16-0.

I like that you can sort through each thread or discussion(not sure what it's called on reddit) with new/top/rising/hot. Not a fan of how videos are done on reddit. Also everything is there. It's not separated like how it is on here. I see that you have the option on the right of being able to but I like it this way better

Reddit is the biggest circle jerk on the internet. Groupthink is the standard, and dissenting opinions get downvoted to oblivion. The mechanism that actually HIDES heavily downvoted posts is absurd and only serves to satiate those redditors with such fragile psyches they can't accept that another person could possibly think differently.

There is no debate. There is no intellectual honesty. It's a platform that only suits herd mentality.

Don't get me wrong, there are a handful of subs that I enjoy, but for the most part it's tumblr with fewer pictures. It's worse than TATE. There's so much garbage to sort through on r/eagles that by the time you actually find something of merit, it's news that was shared in the blog two days ago.

I think what you did was noble.

However, my demented mind immediately imagined a bit on Sienfeld where Kramer needed to sub for you and kept taking the guide to the wrong locations.

Pray for me.

I don't have any hate for reddit.  I go there and read posts.  I don't think it's a good discussion format.  Post responses aren't linear.  Each response is essentially it's own thread.  It's not a great format for back and forth discussion.  The voting system does limit the views of dissenting opinions.  Some of the content is good in the r/nfl subreddit.  I mean Geoff Schwartz's post this week was great.  They also do the annual OC posts on teams which I enjoy.  Evan Mathis gave us  Nick Fole's nickname on Reddit.  I don't think the people posting their are any different although they might skew younger on the whole.

I always thought reddit was strange that it took off.  It purposely looks like the original days of the internet with a clunky UI and design.  I guess it's retro or something like the Minecraft pixelated game.  It looks like garbage.

Discussions are hard to follow with the replies, and you're right about the downvoting.

I hope we get that number down a bit and get a fifth receiver on a route. Sanders and Scott work well in space.

Yup. It’s been obvious for years. Lurie spoke up and got smacked down immediately.

I tend to agree, but that's a terrible job by the Falcons' receiver.  He didn't hit it up in there quick, when there was a bit of an opening, instead he looked to bounce it immediately and started giving ground.  Recipe for disaster.

I doubt they'd have converted, but if he head's upfield rather than trying to bounce it outside, he could have made positive yards, and maybe made the 4th down an option.

Follow the black arrow, maybe a cut back to the inside off the backside of his blocker to his right... but instead he chose to go wide and lose the yards that were there.

I’m curious if Schwartz takes into account the opposing coach’s fourth down aggression. So 4th and 3 vs 4th and 7 makes no difference if the coach has no guts.
