I hope we get that number down a bit and get a fifth receiver on a route. Sanders and Scott work well in space.

I'm guessing this includes FBs.

Also, I would not really hope the number goes down.  To me, keeping the RB in implies that we are supplementing the protection to take more shots downfield.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Message boards are slowly dying, but that doesn’t make them irrelevant or unnecessary today or in the near future.

Media is getting fragmented in general.

The dumbest thing is not monetizing the boards when they had the opportunity.

I’m curious if Schwartz takes into account the opposing coach’s fourth down aggression. So 4th and 3 vs 4th and 7 makes no difference if the coach has no guts.

It would be interesting to see how often he does it in 'plus' territory like this against different coaches.   Either way, a better job by the receiver and it becomes an easier FG at the least, but that's more a coaching point for the Falcons' coaching staff to focus on.  They had a play called that makes the FG attempt go from a nearly 50 yarder become 40-45 yards.  But, the receiver did such a bad job, it remained a 50 yarder.

I'd say the Steelers are in the "hanging on" category.  Chiefs are elite.  Conventional wisdom has the 49ers as elite, but I suspect they may take a step back.  Saints are elite, for now.  They are right there at the end every single year and we never even have a chance to beat them.  Seahawks are a cut above us.

I think we are entering a season where the Chiefs are the only consensus elite team, followed be several flawed contenders.  I think they'll make a legitimate run at 16-0.

The Packers were in the NFC Championship game not the Saints.  I'm not sure how the Saints are elite when they haven't done anything in the playoffs in years.  The Seahawks seem to fluctuate year to year.  Wilson's ability to stay health is one reason they should get the nod over the Eagles. I agree that the Chiefs are probably elite and part of that is that the AFC West seems to be the new AFC East unless the Raiders surprise people.

I think what you're pointing to mostly is the quality of the QB.  I think there is only one elite QB now and that's Mahomes.  Wentz has shown the ability to be an elite QB.  Certainly in 2017 he was better than almost any other starter.  He has that ability if the talent is around him. Brees is probably closer to being on the outside of an elite talent.  Rodgers is still an elite player.  Brady may be able to put together a very good season in Tampa. I think Goff and Dak are below Wentz in upside.  They have the ability to lead

Yup. It’s been obvious for years. Lurie spoke up and got smacked down immediately.

The Cowboys have essentially had 2 bye weeks a year for years. It's ridiculous.

I would assume it includes FBs, and I would think many of those instances come from play action.

The top four teams in explosive pass plays last year (SF, TB, Ten, LAR) rank quite highly in keeping the RB in to pass protect.

Shanny is a master at creating space via play action, and McVey and Arthur Smith all come from the same tree, so it’s no surprise to see them up there.

Looking down the list, I see a lot of offensive play callers/designers I admire — Reid, Payton, Reich.

Another thing about keeping in the RB to block typically means the defense is bringing an extra rusher. I’m curious where we rate among teams facing an extra rusher. Anyone know where to find that?

I really hope there’s a way for the season to take place. Idk if I can take 8 more months without normalcy.

Not sure how Aaron Rodgers is still elite if we are knocking the Saints for recent years.

2017, the Saints won a playoff game and were an all-time flukey play away from traveling to Philly for the NFCCG.

2018, the Saints beat US in the playoffs and were a terrible call away from the superbowl.

2019, OT loss.

They have won 37 games over the last 3 years.  That's the most in the NFL.  More than NE and more than KC.

Aaron Rodgers hasn't thrown for 30 TDs in that same time frame.

The Saints win more than anyone in the NFL in the regular season, have a difficult home field advantage, never lose to us, and have ONLY lost in very tightly contested games in the playoffs when they do lose.  They are elite.

lol at that being what you concentrated on from what I posted.

the insults I'm getting doesn't surprise me.    you all shouldn't take it so personal.   it's like a bunch of old grumpy men who can't handle change.

why can't you guys just admit you're a bunch of dorks who feel "cool" on this message board.   You have the most posts,  you have the inside jokes with one another and it makes you feel good.     and deep down it annoys you that a place like reddit has become much more relevant/lively when it comes to Eagles discussion on the internet.

the idea that "group think" doesn't exist on this board and it's only a reddit problem is silly.  come on now.

I'll still come here,  I still like it here.   But it's just not what it used to be.   Official team message boards used to be the only source of discussion on the internet.   that's not the case anymore.    except for extremeskins.  somehow that place has lasted the test of time.

Great, you have an opinion, as do we.

Change is only good when there is progress with it.

Reddit isn't that in the slightest, IMO.

Enjoy your time over there.

Since you enjoy time here I have no idea why you feel so obliged to come talking trash on the people who helped save the community here that you claim to enjoy.

That raiders team was really good.top 10 in scoring and scoring defense.

Bucs had a cake walk because they had the raiders playbook.

The Eagles were better than the Raiders that year.  That was our year until the debacle at the Vet's final game.

They haven't won anything aside from their division.  Losing by less than a TD in a playoff game doesn't mean anything.  If anything, it makes their complete choke job in their last NFC Championship game the more inexcusable.  They didn't lose because of a bad call. They lost because ultimately they let the Rams tie the score and then kick the winning field goal in OT. Calling them elite is akin to Joe Banner calling the Eagles the gold standard.  There's nothing about their roster this coming season that makes me believe they have improved from where they were last season.  They may not even win their division.

He must have been personally offended that someone didn't agree that reddit was awesome.  I don't care how many people want to go to reddit versus how many don't.  All I care about is ease of navigation.  Reddit doesn't offer that.

I'm a self-proclaimed dinosaur, and frankly, it doesn't bother me one bit.  As you say change in itself isn't necessarily 'better'.  Years and years ago, people would grow their own vegetables and fruits on their own property.  They'd can their produce and store it for themselves and they'd eat it through out the year.  They'd eat what was in season, when it was in season.  They'd change their eating habits as the calendar changed.  They'd buy what they didn't grow themselves from local farmers who would sell to local markets.  Funny story about all of that, full circle has come around again... and that's now 'all the rage'.  Restaurants tout themselves as 'farm to table', yet that used to be the norm.  Then we got industrialization of farms... and people started to want to have fresh blueberries in December.  That's starting to fade away a bit... but until recently, that was called 'progress'.  Personally, I miss the older way and the slower pace of life.  I'm taking full advantage of this shutdown to get back to my roots, growing my own veggies in the backyard, the way that my grandparents did... and great grandparents, and ancestors going way back.  I have a lot less property than they did, so I have to do it on a smaller scale, but I can tell you this... nothing in the supermarket tastes as good as the stuff you grow yourself.    So... is the supermarket progress or is it just a change from the past?  Nah... Not every change is a good thing.  Not every change is a bad thing.

I use reddit a lot for many other subjects and enjoy it, but r/eagles is filled with the type of people that call into radio stations.

OK, so you haven't won anything unless you've won a superbowl.  So the Chiefs are the only team eligible for eliteness then.

They've won more games than anyone in the NFL over 3 years and have been an excruciating out with each playoff loss.

Your definition allows for one elite team.

He wanted a response so that he could freak out.  He's bored and wants attention.

IMO Chiefs are elite until they have to start giving out big contracts or just losing all of that talent

Saints are elite whether I hate them or not. Crybaby team and fanbase. They lost Brees for awhile and they didn't lose a step. They're elite.

For anyone interested

Second question was already asked by two people so i'm sure he'll at least address that part.

Slay is going to have a Pro Bowl year by other teams attacking CB #2 over and over and over...

The bitterness and irrational hatred you guys have for the Eagles reddit is hilarious,  considering TATE/EMG is the most meme filled/inside joke/clique-ish Eagles forum around.

Reddit is great for discussion.   I’ve seen more honest answers out of Dave in one edition of his "AMA” on reddit than I have in 20 years of "Ask Dave” on TATE.

times change for the better.  I used to be here every day for years.   The Eagles message board was great for what it was in like 2004, but it fell behind.   It happens.

Don’t try.  To him, the Saints are the perfect unbeatable juggernaut, even after watching them choke year after year
