I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I think if the Eagles want to be players and create leverage for tomorrow. They find a way to move up in the 2nd tonight or early tomorrow. That will wake up a few teams.

I contend Nigel Bradham was the most underrated player on our 2017 SB winning defense.  He played 90% of our defensive snaps that season.  Which is why he got a big contract right afterwards.

And Nigel Bradham was a minor footnote type move when they signed him the first time from Buffalo.  He wasn't hailed as some savior for the LB corps, he was just a JAG that was familiar with Schwartz' system and that Schwartz was familiar with.   Not really all that different from the Jatavis Brown signing this offseason.  Biggest difference is Bradham signed a 2 year deal, and Brown got a 1 year deal.  And Bradham was a 4th round pick... so its not like LBs can't be found in different rounds.

Willie Gay, Jordyn Brooks, Logan Wilson.... there are more LBs available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds... And even later, there's still some guys to consider: Cam Brown, Markus Bailey, Justin Strnad...

Seriously? I'm not talking about the tight end position or a position in literal sense.

I'm talking about football IQ. That stuff matters big time.

You must be an Eagles scout

If we use a 1st for DE then why don't we use it for Yannick instead?

Yannick costs a ton of cap plus the 1st rounder.  We can't afford him with albatross deals like Alshon clogging the books.

No one is gonna be that desperate for a WR

That was the following year.

I don’t think Jefferson would necessarily be a horrible thing but we need guys who can open up the middle of the field and make it easier for Ertz.

I agree. I think Jefferson can do that too though. This guy routinely beat LSU dbs in practice all the time. For over 2 years.

I think he is going to be monster in the NFL.

This drafts top receivers are just that good. Teams are going to get steals in the teens.

Side note...

If I were a national NFL reporter who tried to produce an accurate mock draft, I would have a login on all 32 primary message boards for each team.  Even if the NFL is your JOB, it is impossible to master the preferences, history, needs, and tendencies of every team.  We constantly see reporters project LBs to the Eagles because we always need one.  They just don't know any better.

You want to put together the most accurate mock draft out there?  Go on each message board starting with the #1 overall pick.  Ask the board who their GM is most likely to pick (not who they want).  Revise the board of available players, then go to the next message board.

I guarantee you that fan think tank gives you a more accurate mock than anything any national reporter listening to smoke screen sources will manage.

Still struggling with the caps?

What would you suggest if the top 4 are gone and the trade up failed? What happens at 21?

I guess it would depend on who was still on the board?      I still agree 100% with the positional value system implemented by Andy Reid in 1999 (based on his coming from the San Francisco and Green Bay WCO coaching trees)

QB, OT, DE, CB, DT (mainly DT's with ability to collapse the pocket and get to the QB)

Then everything else.

This is going to sound contradictory based on my previous comments about my view the Eagles need to aggressively address WR in Round 1, but I also think that usually WR is poor value in Round 1 (unless we are talking Julio Jones / Calvin Johnson / Randy Moss type guy).     Again, for me Round 1 should almost always be...

QB, OT, DE, CB, DT  (mainly DT's with ability to collapse the pocket and get to the QB)

Those are the positions that most impact almost every play.

Even Andy in Kansas City got his key WR's outside of Round 1.   Tyreek Hill in Round 5, Mecole Hardman in Round 2, and the established Sammy Watkins in Free Agency.

But unless Howie has some back door trade already worked out with another team for a young-ish, WR with stud potential, I think the Eagles have kind of put themselves in a position where WR is a dire need.    Can they really ignore it in Round 1?   I mean sure, they can ignore it, but that would be taking a huge risk IMO.

And as others have mentioned, I'm not sure if there will be a DE, DB, or DT worth it that will fall to #21.   I do think there might be an OT worth it that could fall to #21, but if there is I hope the Eagles are able to take advantage of that, trade back some and then target a WR, I guess one of Reagor / Aiyuk / Mims.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Yea, and we might need to be one of them.

Jeremiah's lack of explanation on why the Eagles go Murray in his latest mock only confirm the fact that he's throwing up smokescreens for his buddy Howie.

Boom.

He called him a future pro bowler said he loves the fit in Schwartz’s system and there’s very good running backs in our division which Murray directly addresses.  Makes sense to me at least. But it probably is a smokescreen.

By this same logic, there are going to be many starting WR's available in the 2nd round and onwards.  All the scouts are saying this is an all-time deep WR draft.  We won a SB with free agent starting WR's.

So why again do we HAVE to get a WR in the 1st?

Maybe he will be a monster but I just don’t like him as a need. Go back to 2011 when we had Maclin and Jackson as our starting WRs. Yeah he’d be an upgrade over Avant and Celek wasn’t half the receiving threat Ertz yes. Sure, I’d like him on that team.

Watching highlights of Jefferson I see a combo of Jordan Matthews and Jordy Nelson. That being said I think he’d do great on the Packers catching those back shoulder fades that Rodgers is the best ever at.

Because we don't need a starting WR. We need a Pro Bowl, game changing WR

Yea. I'm hoping we are.

So if Jefferon goes to 13 the how did the draft fall? Jags are rumor to move up with the Giants.

Giants would go tackle. Browns tackle. Raiders Lamb. Niners Jefferson.

Ruggs and Juedy start falling.....

Mother******!

oh geez. That would be a nightmare for the NFC. The Saints are rumored to want him. LSU and the Saints run the same offense.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. i am in agreement with the thinking and I understand Reid's tree. The only issue for me is most of the tree would mean either drafting for depth (DE, OT,DT,CB we need a starter imo) or we would be drafting into a position already carrying a big chunk of salary. I don't see them as options this year.

So we are back to WR and the rightful play sees a trade back...I agree tomorrow is going to be fun.
