Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

As well as Male privilege

For sure that. It’s topics that genuinely people who aren’t being as effected so they feel they don’t have a reason to go out help in changing it (males don’t understand as we aren’t female to see how hard it is going through the stuff they do deal with that we wouldn’t). I’m hoping with this getting changed and voices heard that it opens up more and more dialogue on other issues that have also been ignored or put on the back burner.

Kneeling and the anthem are synonymous with the flag. It doesn't need to be stated in the question to be made clear. If you're talking about kneeling for the anthem, you're also talking about the American flag by association.

I get it. Brees couldn't have picked a worse time to come out with a statement like this. If you say anything not remotely related to what's going on in this country now, you're labeled as a racist. I've seen people called out and vilified for saying something as rational as "What happened in Minneapolis was wrong and bad cops need to be brought to justice, but I don't think burning and looting cities solves anything."

There is only one statement the media, culture, and everyone is allowing people to have right now. And if you try to provide some rationale or personal beliefs, you will get crushed for it. I get it, but it's also kind of scary too. If someone feels different than you do or wants to bring up another issue for discussion, should we publicly shame them and cost them their livelihood? Or should we engage it and have a civil discussion?

The question was in direct relation to how he feels about kapernick kneeling. While  the question didnt specifically ask how brees feels about kaps reasons for kneeling it was implied as was brees answer, if not, why not just ask jo schmo instead if a white football player.

Either brees us incredibly naive or knew exactly what he was inferring, either way not smart for him to say what he did when he did.

I could go on and on about why i dont stand or salute the flag but its not my turn to talk right now. As a white male ive had my turn, its time for me to listen.

Yes, I've had oatmeal cookies made with molasses, maybe not as good as your mom's but, as you say, moist and chewy. I'll have to think on molasses. It's something I haven't used in years. As I think on it, I do like that it adds texture.

Molasses is such a great ingredient.

Won’t lie, I use minced in the jar on occasion but it is larger than minced.  Next time you are cooking something in the oven or grill that will take about an hour over lower heat, peel a head of garlic, grab some aluminum foil and a tablespoon of Olive Oil, I use light instead of EVOO for this, and stick in the oven or grill.  If grilling with wood smoke, vent the foil after about forty five minutes to get the smokiness wth the garlic.   Freezes well.  Pop in the microwave if you are using frozen for enough minutes to make soft and then mash with the back of a spoon.  (Or the mortal and pestle, I suppose.  JR keeps telling me to buy one.   My wife bought me a micro plane garlic mincer because I don’t like garlic presses.  It works well.  There is a mincer with a handle that I have considered.  I think I could:use with my bamboo herb slicer

Totally agree about garlic presses. What you get is garlic without flavor, just the sharpness without the richness. You can't cook with it either, because the moisture has been squeezed out of it. It will burn almost immediately. Chaff without the wheat, if you will.

And yes, I will continue to urge you to buy a mortar and pestle. You can make an amazing garlic paste in one minute with garlic, coarse salt, and basil. With a good mortar and pestle, once broken in, you can clean it in a few seconds. Why have a pepper grinder when you have this? Coriander, yes. Cinnamon, yes. A micro plane garlic mincer is kind of an overkill, IMHO. That's what your grater is for, at least mine is. It has four faces. I have a mandolin, but I never use it. Probably because I expect to cut off my fingertips.

I agree he should’ve just kept his mouth shut especially right now. It was going to do more harm in what he said then good.

That said i know what white privilege is as I’ve had it explained to me, read what it is in articles people have posted, I understand its realness and things I don’t have to deal with as a white man every single day that I take for granted That a person of color doesn’t have that luxury. I would never know what someone of color has to do deal with on an everyday basis. However part of the issue with the term white privileged is when it’s used inappropriately like trying to belittle someone for being white. This doesn’t happen all the time or even the majority but it does happen. It actually discouraged convos of progression and advancement when it’s used that particular way. Just wanted to put that out there

just pointing out there’s Christian privilege in the US. It never is brought up. Like i don’t think people understand some of the things Muslims and Jews go through that Christian/Christianity sects of people never really deal with (in terms of their religious beliefs—not racial). Like if you are a white Christian walk to church no one says a word to you about your religion or want to attack you cause of your religious beliefs. I walk to synagogue with a kippah on and get things thrown at me or antisemitic slurs or physical confrontations. So I’m forced to not wear it. Does it happen all the time? No but it happens more than people know about and makes me cautious to try to avoid making it known I’m Jewish. Muslim women walk around in their head garments and get called nasty slurs, or assaulted. But I’d never use Christian privilege in a demeaning way to make anyone feel like you’re lesser cause they have it (not you as in you did it but just in general).

As the child of an atheist and agnostic, I understand your angst about religious privilege.  To this day, I still don’t openly talk much about my beliefs outside my family. But when I leave the house no one sees me as such.  And having had long hair as a youth when it still got you followed by the police and discriminated in some circles including getting a job, I understood I could (and did) cut my hair.  People of color don’t have that option.  And to be totally honest, neither do women.  I can’t walk a mile in their shoes.

Amen.    Don't even really need a mortar and pestle.    Chop the garlic, chop the basil, and add the salt... then press the knife on the side into the salt, garlic, basil mixture.  Takes about 30-45 seconds.  No special tools needed.

He uses a TON of salt... you don't need nearly as much as he does, but there's no need for special tools.  (That's not to say that a mortal and pestle doesn't have a role in the kitchen... because it certainly does.)

I love me a good vinegar based BBQ sauce.  Unique to your area. I do cruise through occasionally.  Any recommendations?  I prefer that if it has mustard, it is a hint because mustard can overcome everything else.   Back about close to 25 years ago I was headed south to grab my family in TX.  I had go south on 95 just for a different route and went to cut over the mountains.  Reasonably sure I was between The cutoff for Johnson City and the road through Asheville in the Smokies.  Stopped at a BBQ place.  Had absolutely the best vinegar based sauce on some of the best slow roasted pork.  I would kill for that recipe or to just find that place once again.

Well - Mustard is usually SC based BBQ although sometimes you will find it in the SW part of the state.  There's a divide in NC between Eastern and Western style sauces.  There's also a debate between chopped vs. pulled.  Eastern is the vinegar based vs. tomato based for the Western.  Although both have a vinegar base, the Western style typically adds tomato sauce.  So there's a variety of considerations.   My preference is for the Eastern NC.  I don't really have a preference between pulled and chopped. I haven't found a favorite western NC place.  I have a few in the Eastern part of the state.  My guess is that you had a western NC style places.  I'm not too far from Lexington now. I have not made the BBQ festival there but I am hoping I can go assuming they have one this year.

Good for Malcolm.

I sometimes wonder with people like Malcolm Jenkins that while their views are honestly and sincerely held, but are so strong, that his perspective of people whose views/perspectives exist outside of his bubble, has been lost.  I can't help but think that he has to make a choice - a team player for the Saints or an activist?

Oh for sure i can’t understand what it’s like to be a person of color or a woman. My point was more of i hope this movement and change opens The door to more convos about some of the other injustices that are going on so we can also fix those. Cause they definitely are happening. I actually feel worse for Muslims then myself as a Jew. I can hide mine much easier for the most part. Muslims since 9/11 have been treated worse and worse as a lot of people just associate their religion or them as bad people or terrorist. I’ve seen it first hand at the uofa on campus (almost positive they were frat boys) it’s was absolutely disgusting.

It seems like Jenkins would exist fine with him. Jenkins never kneeled. Jenkins has respect.

I think it's pretty clear he has made his choice after telling a hall of fame QB to shut the F up.  There is a lot about you can say about Malcolm Jenkins, but the man puts his money where his mouth is as far as his charities/beliefs etc.  He's fully aware of what that kind of statement could mean going forward.

Brees really pissed off all his skill players. They all unfollowed him too. Other guys like Terron Armstead, Cameron Jordan and Marshon Lattimore retweeted some anti-Brees tweets. I know this probably wont mean much come September but man did he drove a wedge in the locker room today.

If Drew Brees and Malcolm Jenkins can't peacefully co-exist in the Saints locker room, then our country cannot be saved, and we should all look to find a refuge nation to go to for asylum.

I dont really think it can be. There are too many Michael Thomas's and not enough Malcolm Jenkins's

Hmmm why is Kap out of the league?  Teams don't want to touch him cause there are a lot more of us who agree with Brees. He was respectful and said his peace. Nothing wrong with that.

Is it cause more people agree with Brees or the people in power agree with Brees? 🤔
