I was trying to explain the mindset of virtue signaling. That's what VS people want, scream it from the rooftops so everyone knows where you stand.  Look at me, I support this cause.  I find it ridiculous.

I'm not talking about myself or my choices at all.

I have really been struggling with that. I am in graduate school at a very liberal university. The last few days have really bothered me as I have been confronted with a plethora of unauthentic actions, social media posts, and mindsets. Performance morality has been on full display , and most of my classmates have jumped on board. Meanwhile I am left wondering why the two black girls in our cohort of 24 always sat in the back of class and none of these outraged 'friends' sat back there with them. Suddenly they are posting constantly about injustice and going to protests (unless the are dangerous LOL), and it really saddens me. It saddens me that it takes tragedy for people to be outraged, it saddens me that it takes the support of white america for any change to happen, it saddens me that we use SES and race as ways to divide. One thing that I wish people would keep in mind is to keep black voices as the primary focus during this time. I do not want to read you dissertation of a social media post about your experience at the protests if you are going to constantly center yourself as the primary character.

Having put my classmates to illustrate a point, I need to say that not all of then are acting out of fabricated reasoning; but even the most authentic people with genuine outrage are not immune to biases. People hate to self analyze and view their faults, however, I find it an empowering way to encourage personal growth. I am Autistic, and I generally treat everyone the same (for a variety of individual and neurological reasons), but I am also human and I am influenced by implicit biases.  One way I could get better is to be better informed on topics like structural racism... I feel I have a pretty good base, but I have avoided diving in too deep because it makes me feel uncomfortable and powerless. In some ways I am choosing ignorance to protect my mental health, but by doing so I am ignorantly feeding the system. Racial bias effects everyone, it is unavoidable and it develops over time... But if we can approach people in an open way and practice love/acceptance first we will unavoidably develop understanding that erodes our biases.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

yeah that sounds ridiculous. I dont think its going to be true. Why would they choose hazleton? Theres no black people to oppress here. Im not sure who here needs the message they are trying to send.

We are a majority Hispanic city now.

Hey now, I'm a "gun toter". I sure as heck don't think only "white elites" should own guns. I don't even know what a "white elite" is but I'm pretty sure I'm not elite.

Didn't mean it like that.  He comes from what appears to be a very well off southern family.  They have their own land they hunt on.  Not surprising hearing this from him.

We got an alert yesterday in my neighborhood from police to stay in our homes after 7pm, im in wichita, because a protest down the street had threatened to spill into surrounding neighborhoods and break into homes and loot and burn.

Nothing happened, it was just a group of anti protesters stirring up fear and chaos😒

That statistic may also point out to a degree the impact of our gun culture and perhaps a focus on overall use of force by police.   I mean is pulling any sort of weapon appropriate on someone who runs a stop sign?

back here in Podunk Pa. I have had the police draw their weapons on me twice in my life. Once when I was very little when they were responding to a burglar alarm at the tire shop where my Dad worked some how we lived 20 miles away but beat the police there. Dad and I were inside checking things out and when the police pulled in he opened the garage door to let them in and there they were guns drawn pointing their weapons at us. (Not bright on our part but still)

2nd time a friend and I were waiting at the mall outside Pappy's pizza for another friend to go night fishing (it was after dark) 4 cop cars surrounded our car and they all jumped out with guns drawn. Of course I kept my hand where they could see them and after everything settled they told us that someone had reported us as waiting in the car to rob the place.

Yeah I think in a lot of cases police need better training.

Why aren’t they firing the police Chief that allowed this cop to continue to work after 18 complaints?

Well, I do believe Wolf called the PA COVID protesters cowards. However he did say he supports these civil rights protests and even participated. Just days later....While he still has restrictions all over the state. So in a way, it makes no sense. However, its very obvious theres no way he could possible entertain the thought of speaking out against the idea of these protests right now. To say doing so is unsafe and not recommended would get him instantly labeled a racist.

Did you hear Levine fumbling all over words today trying to defend Wolf protesting.  it's becoming a joke listening to these 2 people change their rules every freaking day.

They actually cancelled a "Graduation caravan" that was supposed to be here tomorrow because of the expected riot.

Now that's sad.

OK that is the kind of crap that should get the Brees reaction. What was the actual content of the text in context though?

Edit. I found it. Wow...

He goes from saying all of them are bad to wanting a class 3 device to that comment I won't even repeat. It doesn't make sense on top of being one of the most racist things I've ever heard from an athlete.

That’s what my question was and why isn’t their more outrage about it. That dbag should’ve been fired for allowing him to have that opportunity to even be out there if he was doing his job properly

After he was dead apparently😞

I have no comment on the gun culture part. They’re not for me but I’m not opposed to others rights to own them. I agree with the 2nd part which is why I posed the ridiculous question to Wentzfan11 earlier. I get why people want to focus on percentages and rates, but unless there is a rate that people do find acceptable, I think the totality is more important. Even as someone who supports law enforcement in general, I think the issue of under trained/poorly trained/over zealous/ power hungry police officers in addition to racism issues should be addressed.

@Giddyunc recently recommended a book to me: The Coddling of the American Mind. Your experience is the central issue of the book. Give it a try. It sounds from what you're saying that this book would speak to you directly.

Thanks. My neighbor is ex military and he offered to come over with his cache of guns to keep the mob at bay, and i was like thanks Bro but well be ok. Hes a little on edge got some ptsd and i think all this stuff is triggering him😞

eh... I dont really believe that was the plan. I wonder if theres a different vehicle thats easier to get a resister in to. Though Id never think youd see 4 guys unable to get a guy in a patrol car. Floyd was a mammoth of a man, but I think they coulda gave him a couple jabs with a club and have him in.

From the video I saw, which doesn't give a clear view inside, it appears they never had him properly restrained in the car to start driving away, but he was definitely inside. Looks like Chauvin kinda just lost his patience, dragged him out and then put his knee on his neck to "calm him down". As for the rest, I have no idea which makes it so bizarre. From the leaked audio, it sounded like they were worried about agitated delirium. Maybe they were waiting for the ambulance to come so they could restrain him and get him medically/mentally checked? I dunno.

Hey everyone, I know that the news of the moment is occupying everyone's mind, but I'm going to begin posting some old news articles in The 411 and wanted to mention it in here before I start.

The old news is from the 2017 season, I want those stories to be in our archive (both for us and for people searching Google, which may help boost the board in Google's index).

Why am I mentioning this in here (and in a post in 411)? Because I'm going to start with stories that were written starting with Carson's ACL and following all the way through to the parade. But I just wanted to make sure that I mentioned that I'm doing this because the first stories will talk about Carson having a torn ACL and I don't want anyone to freak out, thinking it's new news lol.

I just want to re-build some of our history, which was lost with the old EMB.

But like i said above...he goes from they are all bad to wanting a class 3 to the racist BS. What he said doesn't make sense on top of not making sense. He should be cut. It's not for me to say if he should get a shot down the road, but that's way beyond the line.

if you are going to use that those arguments, just saying Egyptians, Spaniards, German, polish, basically all of Europe, Russia, the entire Middle East, even Muslims and Christians throughout Jewish history tried to exterminate jews, made us slaves and leave our homes with nothing (and those people knew what was going on and didn’t blink an eye about it outside of a small minority). And we got a piece of land people still hate us for and kill us for.

So am I justified not trusting them and allowed to justify my hatred towards them? Cause that’s what your narrative is just applied to a different group of people who have been oppressed for centuries and still dealing with hate. All i know is I live my life with the people of the now. If i held everything against the people who wronged my people with their ancestors then I’d arguably trust very few and hate mostly everyone. And antisemitism still exists and growing articles in time and antisemitic remarks were made during the looting and rioting so it’s not as if it does happen today.

Heck we still have people who are holocaust deniers. That’s the equivalent to saying slavery in the US never existed

I’m not saying anyone should hate any group of people. I’m just saying some of the hatred can be understood. If you held a grudge would I condone it? No, but I could understand why you felt that way. There’s history.

This whole thing is out of control, they have arrested the four cops that did this. Throwing rocks stabbing and shooting all cops everywhere is ridiculous. That’s like saying all protestors are rioters and looters.
