I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Gotta imagine this whole rookie class is going to have a very tough time making a significant impact with all these restrictions.  Teams with less turnover/more vets are definitely at an advantage.

Weird story out of Florida surrounding Reche Caldwell.  Murdered by 4 guys hiding in his bushes.  I don't want to take away from the George Floyd tragedy, because clearly there is an issue with some of the police in our country.  But murders like this happen on a daily basis all over our country.  It doesn't fit the racism narrative however.

Here's a guy from the NFL fraternity.  Former teammate.  Apparently a great teammate at that.  Not a peep from guys like Malcolm Jenkins.  Why?   I honestly don't understand, not trying to be ignorant, just want to know why.

I don't think that question is ignorant at all.  I ask this question to myself constantly, especially because situations like this happen so much, and nobody ever gives a good answer.

Taylor is a total lottery pick. Not thrilled with the pick and he's as raw as sushi but his athleticism and upside is much higher than guys like Brown and Riley given how little relative experience he has. We'll see.

You're thinking sashimi. Sushi rice is cooked. But other than that, yeah. This draft emphasized athleticism over refined skills. Howie and, I think Doug said, "let's give the coaches talent to work with. Coach them up." A lot of fans and pundits will be labelling this a bust class after six weeks, I expect, when they'll just be getting started.

I know the whole draft is a lottery but I don't like taking lottery picks in round 3.  Save that for round 7 when Mailata is around or Prince this year.  Round 3 should be used on a guy who is able to contribute and should be a starter within a year.  We are being told that Taylor has to pretty much learn how to play LB.  Not a great endorsement when you have to learn how to play the position.

Here's some football to fight about instead:

Tim McManus picked for the Eagles and took:

Round 1 (21): Baker Mayfield, QB
Round 2 (44): Chase Young, DE
Round 3 (85): Lane Johnson, OT
Round 4 (108): A.J. Brown, WR

Man I look at this and think there are a lot of dumb journalists.

How do you social distance in a contact sport?

The solution is testing and anti-body testing.

Is there a difference between a criminal committing a crime and a law enforcement officer committing a crime?

The police are trained for interactions.  They are the ones interaction on these issues all day.  They need to be trained to de-escalate.  I think there's very good evidence that when they are trained in deescalation there is less chance of violence.

Sometimes I just think both sides of the aisle should be able to agree on a utilitarian approach to the interactions.  From a utilitarian perspective, the reason to have police is that it less costly to society to have them then to not have them.  People and businesses are hurt by lawlessness and that hurt can be measured economically.  On the other hand, arrests, the judicial process and prison all cost money to operate.   So if we assume that as an ethical foundation and assume that any interaction has to be viewed vs. the cost to the general public, then less arrests and violence should be the end result.

Part of the problem with this equation is that there are too many business interests tied up in the prison system.   There is a whole prison industry that drives too much of our policy.

You know I see police in my community/neighborhood maybe once every 2 months.  It's a quiet, respectful, peaceful, everyone minds their own business.  Mostly white but you see black neighbors, families throughout.

Why cant other communities be like this?  Everybody has a "choice" to act or behave a certain way.  If some of these communities where police have a heavier presence maybe were more peaceful, respectful, looked out for one another, then they wouldn't need police around all the time.

Curious how often players will get tested

I definitely question why 2 teams in the top 15 would draft QBs in their 40s.  I don't care what they've done.  They're over 40!

I think for the most part we have.  These next 2 weeks are huge.  After these protests of THOUSANDS, shoulder to shoulder.  How big is the spike going to be?  There will be an uptick no doubt but that's a given.

Of course, but what point are you trying to make here?  Both end in tragedy, and one happens much more frequently than the other.

I admit when I posted this I hadn't read that Caldwell may have been mixed up with some really bad people.  I guess his death could still be unrelated to that but not likely.

**** people exist in our society. We don’t have a choice in that. We can choose who we employ as police officers.

It certainly is the ultimate test of the whole situation.  What does it say if there is no major uptick considering how these activities have been?

When we miss on the initial employment, we certainly should have the ability to end said employment and prosecute criminal behavior.  Apparently, the police unions aren't remotely helpful in these cases and making it hard to get meaningful change.

If there is no major uptick then I think you have to take restrictions away.  Stay smart for a bit but allow us to have our events, concerts, games and such.  No more emergency order in place.  If there is no uptick and Wolf makes no changes then we'll know 100% that this is all a political ploy for him.

I'm really not having the new normal speak that Wolf and Levine have incorporated in to the reopening phases.  I get there was a temporary normal but to continue until a vaccine is just not feasible.

It's going to be interesting to watch.  I suspect that there won't be a major move with percent positivity (or whatever measure is best) and we will get to a clear vision of the "new normal" of PA politics.  I'll bet Wolf is identifying his plan/story to keep his message intact as we post this.

Some of my favorites.

Chiefs:

Round 1 (32): Stephon Gilmore, CB
Round 2 (33): Dalvin Cook, RB
Round 3 (96): Nick Chubb, RB
Round 4 (97): Tyrod Taylor, QB

Guess the. Chiefs get a new head coach as part of this game.  Run the ball, Andy.

Sportswriters and their venues are so desperate they are playing board (bored) games and publishing it
