I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I assume you are referencing Ivanka Trump being dis invited from speaking at WSU tech and whining about her greedom of speech rights???

I live in wichita my wife is faculty at WSU, she also works directly with the police chief there.

Ivanka wasnt uninvited by a leftist mob, if one knows any thing about wichita its highly conservative and influenced by the Koch brothers whom are huge GOP donors and whose headquarters are about 5 minutes from my house and about 10 minutes from WSU campus. The basketball arena at WSU is called Koch Arena.

Ivanka wasnt uninvited by a leftist mob she was uninvited by a large group of students and faculty both on the right and left through petition who have zero desire to hear her peddle her lies and propaganda for her dad.

My wife is the director of community outreach and director of student prevention, her department student health, made a video posted it to social media page proclaiming their support against systemic racism and inequality and in support of students in their efforts and as a resource for student health resources.

Youd be appalled by the comments by right wing "mob" calling my wife and her colleagues racists and leftist tools and all sorts of other unhelpful comments.

This isnt a right or left issue its a moral issue, the decision to un invite ivanka wasnt a right or left decision it was a moral decision.

What has Ivanka done that was so morally wrong?

This was just yet another example of coddled college students rejecting any other opinions or thought.  Free speech is essentially dead in most of this country

I dont need a "democratic socialist" (aka an authoritarian) lecturing me about, well really anything.  Your world view warped and fantastical

No. Yes. No.

What about any authoritarian, or just "democratic socialist"?

I disagree with your last position. If you respect the right of free speech, then you must defend it for all, even for the most unctuous among us.

The students and faculty at WSU tech dont agree with the way trump handled the george floyd protests, his call for violence against protesters and his treatment of protestors for a photo op among other things.

Ivanka represents her father and those views. The fact that they voiced their opinion through democratic means into action is a testament to free speech. Keep in mind many college students are socially active and participants in the very protests trump is calling for violence against them.

As for my views as a democratic socialist why should i take your views as a predatory crony capitalist(aka authoritarian) as anything as a tool for the ruling class to continue to oppress and silence the working class. If youre not part of the 1% you are fighting voting speaking against your own interests and freedoms. Whose world view is warped and fantastical???

Actually I hadn't even thought about that one.   Try https://www.businessinsider.com/list-of-disinvited-speakers-at-colleges-2016-7

You and I obviously don't agree politically but I support your right to present your point of view and i'd expect you to reciprocate.

utah leads the country in increased covid cases as of two days ago. Infection from a meat packing plant in Logan Utah.

Kansas has also had an increase in cases.

Be safe peeps, cover your mouths when you cough wash your hands is always good advice for any and all occasions

Really it had to be expected that there would be an increase in cases> It only stands to reason

For sure. Colleges have the right to uninvite or deny any speaker they want from speaking. They are private institutions and especially when they follow a democratic process like a petition.

As for our political views im willing to bet that we have far more in common than we do not.

"Unctuous" --love it.

I really wish football would start back up.

This is getting old.

Well yeah, people arent social distancing as much even when not protesting, many states counties have moved to decrease the restriction protections that were put in place and as a result cases increase.

The second wave of the spanish flu in 1918??? Killed more people than the first wave for many of the same reasons, people got lax in their preventive measures and it killed them😞

They have the right but that does not make it right. We should not be so fragile that we can't allow ourselves to be exposed to other points of view.

Serious question: Were you in favor of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, or of the recent support for corporations owing to impacts of covid-19?

I'm a little disappointed with 2 pre-season games. I thought 3 was the sweetspot. It's really the 4th pre-season game that is so tough to watch.

I find some unintended irony in the third line vis a vis the second.

free speech doesnt mean i have to listen to one speaking. I have the right to not listen to walk away or even democratically vote to not invite one or give one a platform to speak. No one has taken away Ivankas right to speak they just dont want to listen to her as they have every right to do so. They also have the right to not provide her with a venue to not be listened to.

If Trump un invited Bernie Sanders to speak at a Trump rally would you claim Bernie Sanders free speech rights had been violated?

Actually,  Wichita State University is a public institution. As a public institution, it is subject to the First Amendment.

No one is forcing you to go

Yes, you do, but this is besides the point.

No one has taken away Ivankas right to speak they just dont want to listen to her as they have every right to do so.

Given that she was already invited, this is debatable.

They also have the right to not provide her with a venue to not be listened to.

Again, she was invited and then de-platformed.

If Trump un invited Bernie Sanders to speak at a Trump rally would you claim Bernie Sanders free speech rights had been violated?

Yes.

I think the first preseason game is the toughest. If you discount the excitement in the air that "yay, football is finally back!" it's pretty brutal. At least with the fourth game you have some idea of who has looked good thus far and where the battles for roster spots are being fought.
