It seems to me that Jenkins was really under appreciated and underrated by the end of his time here.

If we’re going to use the SS the same way in 2020, we’re going to see a decent drop off in play. Mills has some experience at safety, but it will take time for him to get used to using his eyes differently and changing his instincts from outside corner to safety. Parks seems like a good third safety and seems like a discount Jenkins. There’s a reason we got him so cheap and it’s not just because he wanted to play close to home.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

So I was out getting some fence parts the other day and was driving behind a pickup from Maryland that had an American flag on a pole stuck in the side bed.  It was disgraceful.  The stripes adjacent to the star field were gone. The rest were in tatters. The star field was frayed.  Is this supposed to be patriotic?  When I pulled behind him at a light I almost put on my mask and got out of my car to offer to buy his flag from him for the cost of a new one so I could properly dispose of it.

A couple of years ago I was driving behind a truck that had a confederate flag sticker. Next to it he had a sticker that read "I like my women how I like my chicken — battered.” I couldn’t believe someone had that on their truck. I wondered if I was missing something.

Solak said he was pretty bad in that role in the NE game.

I rewatched the NE game and I wonder what Solak was looking at. Mills played probably as well as he could have. He didn't give up any completions that I saw (I watched until NE scored in the third quarter, which was the last score of the game) and didn't miss any tackles. He probably split his time 50/50 between the slot and outside corner. He had two pretty good tackles on running plays.

The three guys who were horrendous were Maddox, Darby and Gerry. They pretty much cost us the game. Darby lost coverage twice for no apparent reason leading to easy completions, including on the trick play that beat us.

I don't know how well Mills will do in the Jenkins role, but I struggle to understand how anyone could watch that game and think he would do badly.

I will say that after watching that game, I would be concerned about Maddox playing cornerback. he was abused all game long.

My brother in law’s basement flooded four inches high with sewage last week. Sewage. He just put in new flooring too. Gross.

Sewage.

I dont think theyll be a coverage drop off, jenkins had slipped in coverage last year i think mills could bevan upgrade there.

I think the drop off from jenkins to mills could come in run coverage. Jenkins was really good in run support, and best thing about jenkins was availability, the guy just never missed games or snaps.

That will be difficult to replicate.

I like this view it supports my view without using angry words to oppose solaks view i disagree with.😊

Little known fact about Larry Goodenough (which I probably cannot prove). He was the last Flyers player to wear #4. And yes, I know that Goodenough wore #5 for the Flyers. And I know that Barry Ashbee's #4 was retired shortly after he retired. But I have a distinct memory of Goodenough being called up from the minors for his first NHL game, wearing #4, and then being sent down again.

I suspect he’ll be fine in coverage, but it’s tough facing two-way go’s in the slot. He tends to get a little grabby.

Sorry about your basement. Hopefully it isn’t too bad to get fixed and cleaned.

there’s a giant wildfire (bighorn) out here that started last Friday from a lightening storm. They basically only got 10 percent of it contained and it’s destroyed 6000+ acres and the winds and no rain aren’t helping. My parents house is in the midst of where it is. They got put on notice for evacuation yesterday. Hoping that it doesn’t come to that. I was helping them move some stuff they couldn’t replace into my house yesterday in prepping that they do and the fire can’t be contained.

2020 blows.

I actually cannot wait to see what the Eagles do with Hurts.

Obviously I support Wentz, but if we can have some package for Hurts to help keep Wentz healthy throughout the season then I’m all for it.

They also have great last names, which is all that really matters. I’m here for it.

He played well last year towards the end of the year. But at the beginning he wasn't good. I like him just fine but I doubt another year of age was going to make him better

Depends.  What are your other abilities?

You appear to be correct.  He wore #23 and #4 in addition to #5 in '74/'75.  However, this suggests that he wore #23 before #4.   Nice factoid, though.

When looking at the roster now I find myself having more concerns about the defense then I do about the offense. Like offensively I think if guys started healthy and the WRs just play average to above average then the offense should be humming imo.

on Defense I have a bunch of unknown and question marks. Slay, NRC and hargreaves are nice additions and upgrades. But i look at the second corner spot with maddox and Sidney Jones. I don’t trust either of them. Maddox imo is undersized for the outside and I don’t particularly think he played well last year even before his injury. Jones had some big time plays at the end of the year but not enough consistency or stayed healthy enough for me to be alright with him out there. I get with slay you can have safety help on that side but i don’t think that will be the cure all for our no. 2 corner spot.

Linebacker gerry got better towards the end of the year and Edwards i like his upside but I also think there’s a lot of question marks as a unit. When the eagles won the super bowl kendricks played his best football in years and bradham was awesome. I can’t say i feel comfortable with who we have playing at those levels for a significant number of snaps

Safety is exactly like you said. I have seen parks since he was at Arizona. He is a nice 3rd safety. However if he has to start I think you are going to have issues. I think mills is going to need time for the learning curve and ditto with wallace. Even with jenkins decline in coverage I really can’t say they got better. They might be by seasons end if guys develop and pan out in their roles.

didnt Touch on DE where graham being another year older and needing Barnett, sweat to develop into more than they’ve been so far.

im hoping guys ball out on defense but to me more concerns on that side of the ball then offense if the WRs are just competent.

I did read that and I think he is somewhat off target. On the missed switch with Darby, they hadn't been doing that on previous plays. If Darby made that call, fine. But on a lot of other plays they didn't switch. So it's hard to know who to blame. Plus, he didn't have that problem with Douglas, and Darby was constantly having breakdowns like that throughout the season.

I can somewhat see his point on the running plays he highlighted. But what does Jenkins do on the first running play? Absolutely nothing. What does he do on the second running play? Shoot the gap and miss. So how do you criticize Mills and not Jenkins on those plays?

And the fact that he highlighted two incompletions as Mills being bad in coverage is just LOL. On the deep ball to Edelman that he broke up, Brady had oodles of time. On the first pass, Brady would have needed to make a perfect throw. What about the five completions that Maddox gave up on similar routes where Edelman was running wide open?

If you watch the whole game, I don;t see how you don't come away feeling okay about him switching to SS.

True about Parks. He did turn down some money, but not that much.

As for Jenkins, if he was so good, why couldn't he get the contract he was looking for either?

I think he got the guaranteed money and stability he wanted in one of the two places he wanted to play. Not bad for a 32 year old strong safety.

I believe Mills played the role that they're planning for him this year in the New England game last season. Defense looked good in that game, but I think the weather had a lot to do with that. New England also didn't have a very good offense last season.

I think Parks is going to be the best offseason addition to this team. He got caught up in the numbers in Denver because they have some good safeties, but he is a very solid player.
