I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

False.  First few games the offense didnt look good.  Sanders was the only big play threat this team had once DeSean went down.   Shame we can't go back to see the old blog.  His rushing stats were "ok", but not spectacular, meanwhile his receiving numbers were off the charts.  And remember this first few weeks we lost Jackson, then Jeffery, then Goedert.  They were playing with virtually no one... and Sanders became the receiving threat.  Check the 50 yard plays he had, and the 20 plus runs.  Vastly outnumbered THE TEAM around him.

Yeah his development was incredible.

Stats...

But eye test he wasn't very good. At least as a runner.

Pellets only.   It's fed by an auger.   Maybe when I retire I'll upgrade to a firebox that needs to be babysat.

That's Traeger's version... but its the same basic principles.  The biggest differences are in no particular order:

Traeger gives better temp control (Pit Boss allows only to be set to specific temps, "Smoke", 200, 225, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500 and "High") Traeger allows you to connect to it via WiFi to watch the temps, change temps, etc.
Pit Boss gets hotter (Traeger says it can get to 450, but from what I've seen of reviews online... it gets close to 450, but can't really maintain it.
Pit Boss offers the exposed flame of the firebox for searing.  Traeger does not, though I did watch a video where a 'pit master' did expose it by doing everything against the rules of the device to get a sear, and the Traeger worked as well.  Pit Boss just has that feature built in.
Pit Boss is overall cheaper, and doesn't claim to require their brand of pellets to work.  They claim any pellets will work.

Sadly, there is no way to add your own wood to the machine, specifically.  The box to the side is the "Hopper" where the pellets are stored and where the auger gets them to feed into the fire box.

My Traeger (ironwood) gets over 500 degrees. It depends on the model. And you can use any pellet regardless of what they say. I actually use Pitt Boss pellets in mine almost all the time

Never meant to say it did. My point is the beer doesn’t get hot enough to mist so it doesn’t moisten the chicken. Even if it did, the dark meat is below the mouth of the can and never gets any benefit. A rub and garlic butter is way better. Alternatively, basting when the chicken is more than half done, and continuing, a little bourbon, brown sugar, and cumin will do the trick. Best of all is to spatchcock the chicken, radically reduces cooking time so the chicken is more moist.

I always spatchcock when cooking a whole chicken

Stats... but the eye test said the OFFENSE sucked as a whole, he was the only part that worked.   Go back and watch the first few games again if you have the stomach for it.  He had a fumble against Detroit, that was his biggest failing in the first few weeks... the rest was not a matter of 'he's not very good' but a matter of 'he's learning the chemistry with the OL'.   God forbid that it take a little time to truly mesh.

This type of nonsense is why I get so frustrated with people around here at times.  A rookie stepping in as a rookie isn't supposed to start off like gangbusters, its likely going to take time.  But, he started by working on the passing game, because that's what the coaches told him to focus on, and he did and was phenomenal.  How often can you say that your rookie RB is your best option for Pass Pro coming into the season?   Give me a break.  So many people expect to see 'instant results' from draft picks.  Well, that's not realistic.  Realistic is to see flashes and then those flashes get more consistent and eventually you see the player.

Take your eye test elsewhere.  Anyone who was down on Miles early needs to stop trying to defend their position and instead, step back and say... "I might have jumped the gun on my evaluation of him."

Yeah, that was out of my price range, so I never looked at that one.  I suppose I should have been specific.  My comparison was Traeger's Pro Series 34  vs. Pit Boss Austin XL.  The Traeger was still a little more expensive than the Pit Boss (even during the Father's Day sale and taking $100 off, the Traeger was still $100 more than the Pit Boss.

And I think the coaches share that same enthusiasm. I think in Sanders there's real potential that they've found themselves a real top player at his position. And perhaps one of the best weapons in the NFL for the next few years.

Agreed.

The kid had 1300 total yards on offense as a rookie in a rotation. If they use more of a feature back role for him, it shouldn’t be too difficult for him to have 1500 yards this season.

Ah got it.

Yeah the ironwood is pricey. I cook outside all year long and the double walled sides on the ironwood sold me. Heats up and holds temp the same in 20 degree weather as it does in the summer

Wrong.

Thre knock against him in college was his vision, due to lack of experience.  And it showed early as a rookie.

The eye test will stay here. You can take your temper tantrum elsewhere.

Al Harris would be better than any corner the Eagles trotted out the last 3-4 years though.  He would be a great #2 to line up with Slay.

Tallest midget? No thanks, I'll take Shedon Brown for my number two

Sheldon was a great #2 CB. Could handle #2 WRs without help, consistent, strong in the run game, a leader, etc.

Early in the season no. Later he was great

Yeah he looked like he was catching up to the NFL speed with his running game. But he was awesome in open space as a receiver early in the year. He was pretty much our only big play threat for most of the year

Agree about the beer. Most the time I just use my beer can chicken stand with no can of anything. It’s the basting and spice rub that gives it the flavor.  I also rub the cavity. I like to slow cook it.

I like spatchcock too, but on the grill, the skin doesn’t come out as well for me. Like the bourbon, brown sugar and cumin.  Add a little paprika, crushed garlic and tomato paste/jalapeño and/or Serrano pepper purée and you have the makings of a fine BBQ sauce.

He took this outside. I have to think he figured he could just use his speed to get outside like he did in college. Not unusual for a rookie.

I liked this post once because I can't like it more than once.

Happy flag day. 🇺🇸

Sanders tried to bounce too many runs outside and had trouble reading holes inside early in the season. I don’t think that should be much of a debate.

What he did later in the year doesn’t erase that or make anyone’s early complaints about him wrong. He got better.

Yup. As a runner he hardly made anyone miss in the open field too. People let those HB seem routes/wheels completely overshadow his early struggles.

No idea who this youtuber guy is but has anyone else heard this rumor?  Rasul for LB Avery Williamson?

I’m actually more concerned with his ability to finish games. There were multiple times this year past year where he left the game with an injury and didn’t return. I think that is somewhat bad luck and some needs to get his body stronger. as a rookie he was always going to come in and have to adjust to the NFL game. He should if developing right get better and better as the weeks went on which he did.

It shouldn't be no... Let's just hope it wasn't in part that he was a rookie and teams didn't know what to expect.
