I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I think you're on the right track with something else before games.  I'm also all in for keeping the teams in the locker room during the Anthem or not playing it at all.  It's all a big show now anyway.

The Anthem flag ceremony fly overs all of that is paid for by the military, its basically a be all you can be commercial before a football game

Theres really no reason to start a football game or any game with the national anthem.

Im guessing the idea originated from the olympics which is a world wide competition where countries rep their country while competing against each other.

I mean if any thing maybe they should present state flags and sing a state song??? Except what happens when dallas plays houston or two teams from Cali or NY or Florida play.

Flag ceremonies at non olympic sporting events are for what???

One way to avoid the protest would be to acknowledge the issue at the start of games.  I mean a moment of silence and even a prayer would probably go along way to ameliorate the feeling that further action needed to be taken to address the issue.

I really think there are several things at work here.  One is systemic racism that creates more obstacles for minorities.  I think this is always more controversial because it is less well defined.  I mean it can mean things like when people with African American names aren't interviewed at the same rates for jobs as people with European names.  There is also what caused the protest which is disparate treatment in the criminal justice system.  There is an issue with police bias that impacts people of color.  While some of this is driven by racism and bias, I think there is fundamentally an enforcement, accountability and training problem.  This enforcement and training program also impacts other unfortunate people, regardless of race, who interact with the criminal justice system.

There are concrete policy and statutory measures that could be used to fix these problems.  Here is a good summary of some potential fixes:

Greg is a criminal defense attorney in Durham.  He's a good follow on these issues.  He's not politically liberal.  He probably is more of a libertarian and he has run in the past for office as a Republican.  He also has a pretty graphic thread of documented police violence.

I like the acknowledgment at the beginning of games. I also like not showing the anthem.

Big win for the ACLU and Title VII with the 6-3 decision. F Alito.

I believe the anthem began being played during WW1 at baseball games.

I cant actually imagine anything worse than Faux News, buy apparently it exists😒

I guess that makes sense, baseball was a distraction from the war and many players were called to war so the anthem was to remind people of the sacrifices people were making over seas so they had the freedom to watch and play a game. I can get on board with that.

Not so much now as we as a country arent defending our right to sport from an evil regime threatening to take over the world. If the Aliens attack maybe they could have an Earth anthem, one flag for all humans. Id support that😉

Seems I need to go back on another rant about people dismissing Miles Sanders too soon.

So, I introduce for your approval, "The EMB Eagles Blog 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic Patience Act"

We the below signed Blog members do solemnly swear, that on this date, June 15th, 2020, that they will reserve judgement on the incoming class of draftees until at least week 10 of the regular season, and not use the terms "Bust", "Reach",  or "Wasted Pick" until at least more than 50% of the regular season of games has been played out.  Terms like "disappointing", "underachieving" and "underwhelming" are permitted, but only with the caveat that "it's still early and there's time for him to turn it around" be implied, if not actually stated.

What if "insert Eagles rookie" isn't producing/playing/dressing/sucks while other rookies at the same position are out there balling out?

Jalen Hurts was a wasted reach bust pick.

I can see Davion Taylor barely making an impact on special teams while LB's selected after him contribute on defense.  Akeem Davis-Gaither was the 1st pick in the 4th round and I think he's going to be a steal.

With that being said, I wonder if the Eagles have Nigel Bradham on speed dial.  Taylor has to learn how to be a linebacker which is scary.  With no off-season he's going to be fighting a huge battle in camp.  They are going to be forced to keep him hoping he is a ST ace.  He's going to have to be a Chris Maragos type of roster spot, here this year for ST and ST only.

You mean like Josh Jacobs was last year, but ended up with fewer yards from scrimmage than Miles Sanders for a team that struggled to get to 7 wins?  Like that?

No, I mean like JJAW  and every other WR drafted.  Your post was about rookies not just RB.

Sure, that's plausible.  But, they say it takes 3 seasons to judge a draft, not 3 games, and certainly not 3 quarters.  Taylor is very raw, so I have no doubt, with an abbreviated (if at all) offseason program, I don't see him taking on huge responsibilities.  But, what was the goal of this draft, was it to be ready to compete in September of the 2020 season, or was it to reload the young talent?   I really liked Davis-Gaither, as well.  But, Taylor seems to have a much higher ceiling, but also a much lower floor.

That doesn’t really say anything other than he couldn’t declare for the draft based on simply changing his mind. This isn’t the same thing.

I think this political climate could swing things for him? Maybe not. Maybe the NCAA would grant him immediate eligibility for a transfer. Maybe Gundy suspends him, although I can’t imagine he’d be that dumb (although he watches OAN, so he probably is).

Sure.   Hammer the crap out on a player that produces like JJAW... but I'm asking for folks to wait until week 10.  That's after they would have played 9 games... I think that's reasonable.  I mean, it's still too early to truly judge.  Brian Westbrook did pretty much squat-ah as a rookie.  But, had the luxury of sitting behind Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter at RB and even Brian Mitchell, as a returner.     But, one year later, he was part of the 3-headed monster.  And 2 years later, he was the most dangerous player on the field for the Eagles.

I highly doubt that JJAW will follow that career trajectory, but he's not dead in the water yet.  They have a lot of speed at WR now... but he's really the only 'size' WR they have, after Jeffery, whom I doubt will dress even once this year.  So... he offers something different, maybe he can become serviceable.  That won't make him a great pick by any means, but it might at least make it look a little better than it does right now.

I don't understand what baseball is doing.

The speed factor could make it possible that we see Taylor on the field right away with a very basic 'see ball, get ball' disposition.  Schwartz could build around him schemewise, with Taylor learning on the fly (think Keith Adams), and initially, only playing 1st and 2nd downs.

Basically, everyone was waiting on PIAA to make their recommendations. The NFHS made recommendations, CDC has guidelines, and UPMC came out with their own as well. Finally after we all waited on PIAA, they said... make your own plan and you can start.

So we have put the other guidelines together from NFHS, CDC, and UPMC and have all come up with very similar plans so far.

What will be interesting is when 1 player tests positive and you have to 2 week quarantine the whole team.... in a short high school season thats going to screw up a lot of teams who were scheduled to play you. I dont know how this is going to work. But, they at least will be starting it. We will see how far we get.

What could go wrong?
