Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

It’s a contract. Brooks is injured. Neither thing nor the two together is an "issue.”

A 14.6m cap hit next year for a 32 year old RG with 2 torn achilles is an "issue."

Yep, I think we talked about this back in April.  They have Theilen.  They needed a slot guy.  Also because he's not a burner.

It's why we didn't draft him.

It's an annual event.

Jefferson is kind of a clunky fit in Minnesota too. Thielen played 30 something percent of his snaps out of the slot, and the Vikings are expected to beef up their 12 personnel usage. They used two tight ends the second most in the league at 34 percent.

Jefferson will have to be an outside receiver for the most part.

I haven't soured on him yet. I'll let you know after this year. If I'm sour on anyone it's JJAW.

My attitude with Alshon went downhill quick.  First the locker room rumors, then the poor performance and just looking SLOW and finally a devastating injury all on top of a huge guaranteed salary.  It's easy to not want him here based on those factors.  It's one picture but it does give a glimmer of hope.  As Marty Schottenheimer used to say "There's a gleam".  I had Alshon written off for 2020.

A healthy, producing Alshon then means JJAW is on the bench so more non-production from a 2nd round pick.  Still can't believe they drafted JJAW instead of the wealth of talent at WR last year.  He's got the muscle mass of a punter.  Meanwhile AJ Brown working out this off-season looks like he's ready to roll.

His cap number for zero games played is an issue. Him having three major injuries in two years is an issue. I don’t understand the pushback you’re getting.

I don’t blame Howie for the extension. It’s bad luck.

Can't wait until he hits waivers and everyone complains Eagles didn't put in a claim. As is tradition.

No. It’s a contract. In your unending desire to spread your gloom you are redefining it as an issue. The injury is unfortunate. Finding the right person to play RG is an issue.

After watching breakdowns of Pryor's play from several sources, it seems like the team has a solid floor of "decent but not spectacular" in him, with the possibility that he could get a lot better over time.

Certainly he looked better out of the gate than Seumalo did.

Which is OK.  Not every player is going to be an All-Pro.  It sounds silly but they need a few "decent" players so they can afford everyone.  If Pryor goes out and plays like the next best OG in the NFL then you have to pay him too...plus continue to pay Brooks.

Unending desire to spread gloom 😆

Sorry that the self-proclaimed OL expert can't see that a large guaranteed deal for an over 30 RG with 2 bum wheels on a tight-cap team isn't ideal.

Did anyone think Brooks was under a bad deal a week ago?

Howie was backed into it.

I felt a little uneasy when he gave him that extension last year.  30 with one achilles injury?  The rate of either re-rupture or contralateral rupture after one achilles injury is fairly high, so it's more than bad luck IMO.

But...he's an elite OG who had a superhuman recovery.  It sends a really good message to the team as well.  He earned it.  So this was not crazy either.

So I've stated where I stand on the Anthem issue many times on here.  I've asked where the compromise can be found and what can be done.  Maybe the Goodell can work with a team to sign Kaepernick, provided there are no more anthem protests.  I know it will never happen but just looking at situations where you can come to an agreement.

This isn't intended to start another argument or discussion about people for or against but just trying to think of solutions.

My personal opinion on the flag... I just don’t care. Stand, kneel, sit, bend over and stick your arse out towards it. Don’t give a rip.

As far as Kap... I’m still not convinced he wants to play football. Even Ray Lewis questioned his desire. Some time in the last year I believe he had a scheduled workout for a bunch of teams organized by Hue Jackson? And I believe he was flaky. Forget the exact story.

Anyways... it’s not like it was 10 years or even 5 years ago. Most teams are pretty solid at the QB position. That’s at starter and backup. He’s probably one of the top 64 QBs but there’s no guarantee.

We’ll see...

This. Nobody knows what kind of contract he's looking for. If he wants $12-$15 million a year, well yeah it's obvious why he hasn't been signed. No one is giving that to a backup QB and he may be asking for that intentionally so no team bites. From a business standpoint, there's too much at risk for him to come back. He can ride the martyr card out for the rest of his life, have movies and books made off of his story, make public appearances, etc for the next 30-40 years if he never plays again. If he comes back and sucks, the narrative changes to, "Well maybe the reason he wasn't signed was because he just isn't a good quarterback" and he loses his status symbol.

He also wanted to sign him before the offseason when salaries were going to reset. He couldn’t have seen a Pandemic coming...

I am not sure how this is even a question.  I think Brooks has shown the ability to bounce back and play at a high level.  It seems like a deal that makes sense but it is a lot for a RG who is over 30.  I can't see how at the very least the new deal leaves a big question mark.  Hindsight is 20/20 but if Brooks doesn't return to form the Eagles are looking at dead money on the books not even considering the cap hit for next year.  I mean if he plays poorly in 2022 and they cut him, there is $9 million in dead cap space.

There is something to be said of Banner's ruthless pragmatism. He would have never guaranteed Alshon's contract, nor have given Brooks the extension until he absolutely had to. Howie's gets a little too emotionally attached to players.

Every time he has bounced back he gets injured again.  He's great no doubt.  But if people want to question Carson Wentz being injury prone then we sure as heck need to ask the same thing about Brooks.  Do you want your best OG playing every other year?

Know what Howie has that Banner doesn't? In the case of Brooks you are dead wrong about being "too emotionally attached" we'll see about Alshon this year.
