The only benefit of phased and soft openings are that it’s easier to shut things down again.

See the spike, shut it down.  A completely unregulated opening is a faster economic recovery and probably no more exposure for a bigger spike...but...good luck convincing the masses to hole themselves up again at that point.  We’ll have a more riots.

So the rationale is to build up that momentum more slowly so it’s easier to down shift.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

If you don’t have a stay at home order and businesses are allowed to open, people are out.  Restricting the capacity of business that people can do is just pissing into the wind.

People are out but they still have to maintain social distancing.  Sitting them right next to each other so the restaurant makes more money defeats the purpose.

What are we trying to accomplish?

Hilarious.

350m people with violent attachments to their civil liberties and a shockingly low mean IQ and common sense level are only going to social distance appropriately when they have the fear of God in them and a stay at home order.

It’s just not going to happen after the soft opening.  I don’t like it either, but you have to be realistic about it.  This isn’t Singapore, Germany, or Sweden.

Just have everyone wear masks or stay inside. This isn't hard.

If only a vast majority of Americans and our leadership had a shred of common sense...

I mean...  normally I would say, 'that's a hell of a defeatist attitude"...  but lol...  then I remember who I'm talking to.

How will it be enforced? That's my question, I literally had to give one of my employees a day off w/o pay because he kept "forgetting" to put his mask on after several warnings. I'm all in favor of people wearing masks, but can you imagine the crap storm if they get arrested for not wearing it? We're now a country of a-holes that only care about "what's in it for me".

My apologies for the snarky response. I read it differently than you intended it.

I’m not sure how cities intend to enforce it. I read that Tampa passed an ordinance requiring people to wear masks.

"The order would be enforced in the last resort with a civil citation. Children under 2 would be exempt. And the city would provide masks to whoever needs one, she said.”

No worries on the snark I assumed you misunderstood. That said there will be 800 billion people running around with no masks on I can guarantee it.

Whaley bringing up Godwin’s blocking ability matters as a slot receiver (not a great deal, but it’s more important in the slot than outside a majority of the time)

It absolutely is.  But people need to stop obsessing over being right or wrong over this.

Conservatives say that it's "worth it" to open up the economy.  Progressives say that it's "worth it" to protest against inequality.

Now is not the time to be hypocritical on either of these fronts.  It is time to reopen and move on.  And maybe things explode again.  Then we walk it back and do what needs to be done.  The country can't live under a rock forever.

No one is suggesting living under a rock forever.  It's not a matter of being right or wrong.  It's a matter of trying not to spread the disease.  Limiting human interactions even with varied levels of success will help with transmission.

The saying "avoid it like the plague" is another coronavirus casualty.

"Hey people you can save lives by wearing a mask in public". "F that I know my rights and cousin Joe said that mask crap don't work nohow"

Reminds me of the old George Carlin joke: "Picture how dumb the average man is. Now realize half the people out there are dumber than that.”

To be honest if the cases keep rising, the only way the NFL season is going to happen is if the entire NFL moves to New Zealand for the season.

New Zealand has 16 120x60 meters stadiums and is COVID free.

It would be hard to play a regular season in a different country.  If they do go that way, it may be manageable to play a tournament-style of eliminations of 32 teams.  Win or go home.  Much fewer games and shorter stay in a foreign location.

NZ has a few million people only and it is easier to control the population.  But would they welcome a bunch of US players coming into their community and some of them may be Covid positive.  They are rather strict on controlling biological substances going in to protect their local ecosystem.

That's the problem.  That first sentence can't be a suggestion.  Needs to be the mandate.

Why?  Because of @BDawk_ASamuel's Carlin line just above.

I’m stuck sitting with my napping 1-year-old so I’m rewatching our win over Dallas. Ertz is tough as hell, and Goedert is really, really good. It’s crazy to me that people in here don’t see that he’s a top 10 tight end.

It will matter with some people and others will take it to extremes. Common sense is dying in America. It shouldn't have to be a mandate, people should give a F about others. As a society we really can't be bothered to wear a mask in public when it could literally save someones Papa or Grammy? What's next I'm gonna start driving on sidewalks?

It's super obvious.

One of the upsides of a shrinking cap of 2021 might be that it forces Howie to not extend Ertz.

Also, holy smokes Rasul and Mills tried to lose that game by letting receivers run right past them. I’m so happy we won’t have to watch them on the outside this year (except Mills in the red zone. He’s good there).

In terms of limiting or slowing the spread, that can’t be true can it? Mathematically speaking, right? Fewer people out is fewer people potentially exposed in a general sense, no?

Not only that, but enclosed spaces are an issue.

If you masked me up and told me to stand in an elevator 6 feet apart from someone for 30 minutes I still wouldnt feel safe.

If I was outside and had to stand 6 feet away from someone with a mask pretty sure we wouldnt spread the disease. I wouldnt totally want to both be maskless, but I feel like youd still be pretty safe still.

Scaling that up, a restaurant is larger than an elevator, but fill it with a lot more people still might not be safe. Same number of people spaced outside- safer.
